I love that a bunch of hockey fans are saying basketball players are thugs.

    HELLO? Hockey allows fighting.

Basketball sucks because the first 3.9 quarters are pointless, while the last few minutes take as much time as the rest of the game to complete (timeout, foul, timeout, foul, timeout, foul, timeout, foul). It sucks because if you breathe on someone you get called for a foul. It sucks because the officiating is incredibly inept to the point of conspiracy. And it sucks because "athletes" like Shawn Bradley and Brian Scalabrine can actually make a living for being tall and having no other appreciable skills.

It does not, however, suck because some primadonna got caught up in the emotion and skipped out on some handshakes.

and on that note, wasn't one of jon's supersquad homeboys pinched with a s***load of coke once and is now not allowed to travel across the US/Canadian border without an immigration waiver?

Simply being able to skate, however craptastically, puts them light years ahead of Veal Scalabrine and the like.

I'm surprised you didn't accuse the NBA of being shiftless and lazy while you were at it...
Doc that is not it at all. Fine, what I said was a generalization, however it still does not explain the lack of immediate action taken by the league. Every time that there tries to be a change to the league, the race card is used. I remember a few years ago, they wanted to change the dress code of players going to the game to be more professional. Phil Jackson said the players should look professional and not like thugs. Is he a racist for saying that like you are suggesting that I am??

LeBron was the league MVP, and by his actions it does say something. I he really that valuable of a player? The skill set is there of course, however what about the character part. That is the one part of development that is so frequently overlooked. I was listening to sports talk radio on the way home from the gym, and they were echoing my thoughts exactly. Someone even went as far to say that his MVP title should be stripped (I do think that is a little extreme). When Chelios skated off in 2003, I lost respect for him due to his actions. I know a Red Wings fan losing respect for a Red WIngs player.

Lastly, I am not saying that the NBA is the only league with its own problems. I mean it has been documented that many NHL players have problems with drugs, and even violence towards others (Bobby Hull, Patrick Roy, Ray Emery etc). The NBA however, being more mainstream, I believe has more of a responsibility to examine its image and how it presents itself. There are great players who do a lot of good.

Tim Duncan for example is a helluva nice guy. (even to people who do not know who he is when he was in college) Guys in the NBADL, are even nicer than that. A guy I went to high school with (Jelani Gardner) plays very few games in the DL, but plays overseas because he can take his family with him during the summer, and is able to train in CA during the school year so he is with his kids.

I'd bet my life that no PLAYER in the NHL could hit 35% of their 3pt shots over the course of a season in the NBA.
