Thread: Lane Kiffin to USC

Classic. The two deserve each other.

What a track record of success. He probably got hired because he's got a hot wife for all the photo ops. Hey, the diversion sort of worked at UT. He didn't get burned in effigy for his classless statements toward Urban Meyer or when his recruit & good buddy Nu'Keese was arrested for robbery (wearing UT athletic gear, no less and he has pled guilty to boot).

There is a huge difference between being an assistant or head coach. He has the second banana part down cold; not so sure about the "leadership" part.

Well, I guess when Garrett is jettisoned after the NCAA steps on USC (in the manner of "Bambi Meets Godzilla") they can just move ol' Lane up to A.D....

It's a gamble for sure. Kiffin, as Pat Forde called it, is the Paris Hilton of football--he's never accomplished anything as a head coach and has been living off his name. That said, if he can hold onto the majority of the incoming recruits (and it looks like he probably will--Prater for example is enrolling next week), they'll be good in the short term.

It just surprises me that USC with the NCAA scrutiny would hire a guy like Kiffin with all his baggage, especially when they were so quick to run him out of town in '06 after the UCLA game.

So what if he was a "whiny doucehbag" so are a ton of other college coaches. He came within a blocked field goal of beating the national champs, this guy is a talented coach and a fantastic recruiter.

No that's the scary thing, Al Davis has no reasoning capability left...and the fact that he was able to sniff out this douche for what he was is something I find highly impressive....keep in mind that I hate the Raiders.

Lane Kiffin can't coach his way out of a wet piece of toilet paper. He's a moron. You can literally see right to the back of his head through his eyes when he gives interviews. It sucks because I'm a Bucs fan and loved Monte Kiffin (since he now coaches with his dunce offspring there, that is no longer the case). IF SC avoids sanctions and the recruits keep trickling in, he has a chance to succeed INSPITE of himself. If he has to do any actual thinking/coaching, he will fail.

The thing a lot of people need to realize is that Carroll isn't a great coach either. His personality was perfect to lead college players and he always had superior assistants to handle the strategic side of the game, he's also a great recruiter. The fact he was able to make those choices, I'll give him some credit for that. But lets be honest here, 60% of the top high school prospects are 5 minutes from their offices at SC and they've had supremely talented classes for the last what 8 years? That'll make any coach look good. He WILL fail with the Seahawks.

UT fans shouldn't be so upset, they should actually be celebrating the fact that they don't have to be stuck with this joke for the next
4+ years. I'd sing 'Rocky Top' all night when he left town.

As a UCLA fan, who's thoroughly enjoying this....a quote came to mind from a film that accurately describes what is happening.

'He (USC) is losing his mind....and I'm (UCLA) reaping all the benefits (recruits, once they begin to bail following sanctions).'
