Bela and others have said in numerous interviews that they take nothing away from the athletes and clearly they are talented enough to be there. The issue is the Chinese government that will deny its own birth registry and have people obviously lie on the power of falsified passports to win. Karolyi may have had girls who we're under 16 on his Romanian team back in the 70's, but that was BEFORE the IOC and the Gymnastics governing body created an age limit. All anyone has ever said was make it fair and boot the obvious liars or remove the age limit.
Which doesn't mean that other American athletes are worse. It's just easier to collect 5 medals in swimming with so many disciplines. As I read somewhere couple of days ago, if athletics had 80m, 90m, 100m, 110m, 120m,... races, those sprinters would get most gold medals. How about giving another gold medal to the runner who is best in combination of 100m and 200m running competitions? And another one, who is best in combination of 200m and 400m running competitions?Quote:
