One range that a friend of mine goes to sounds great, but I have yet to get up there...

From what he tells me, they've got a nice bar & grill for when you're ready to take a break and grab a bite or something to drink. They've also got a picnic area complete with a BBQ where you can bring your own food for lunch.

You can get away from the firing line by reserving a private range where they pretty much leave you alone. A guy on a quad will come by every once in a while just to be sure you're not firing steel core, tracer rnds, or burying a body. Bring plenty of ammo, they do sell it there but they are frquently out of common stuff, and its about 15 mins back to the freeway if they are sold out of what you need.

Burro Canyon used to let you put out steel targets on the pistol range but after some incident have "temporarily' suspended that privilege. Supposedly they will be allowing them after fire season ends, but who knows. In the meantime I'm putting out sawhorses with hanging bowling pins and polymer plates. Paper targets suck!

Yeah, they always suspend the use of steel targets during fire season. They allow em again after the first rain. I always put a couple swinging steel squirrels out anyway. A couple of times they have let me know that today was a 'no steel target' day, most the time they don't notice, and when they do they are nice about it . Just doing their job. I haven't been up there since half the state caught fire though, maybe they have gotten more uptight this week. Can't really say I would blame em.
They don't have a problem with hanging tennis balls so long as you clean up.

I've been to this place and the people there are a bit snooty. I was using my Mosberg 500 and a manager came over to me and said " Sir you're going to have to put that gun away as it might offend some of the other members" I **** you not. Apparently they get all pissy if you use anything other than a side by side or over under.

Were you shooting the Cruiser or Tactical? I could see some people getting their panties in a wad over either of those due to their intended use. Oak Tree seems to be more centered around hunting rather than just shooting.

At the same time, I'd like to roll in with this and see their reaction...

There are 3 law enforcement only 9mm rounds in CA. But of course, if you are a target shooter why would you need them anyway? Just a regular box of hollows will do great for your home.

I usually go out in the desert somewhere far away from people that will complain about anything (like a .50 cal or something full auto). Calico mountains or out by Red Rock are my favorites.

were one of you guys @ the burbank range today? I saw a guy in a Kings polo when I was leavin. I was the one giggling like a little girl while shootin a tiny derringer.

Now I'm only 16, but what should I do to if I wanted to start getting into shooting guns?
