Fishing in Southern California

I have a question for any of you fishing fanatics.

I'm planning a lake fishing/camping trip for next month, and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on where to go.

We're not adverse to driving 4+ hours to find a good spot. We'd need to rent a boat and some rod/tackle gear.

All and any suggestions are appreciated.
