Frank Shamrock vs Nick Diaz tapped as Strikeforce main event for April 11 at UFC blog for UFC news, results, videos, rumors, fights, pics and tickets — MMAmania.com

This is an interesting fight. I feel like Shamrock will be too big for Diaz but it will be interesting to see him fight a guy with the submission skills of Diaz. Been awhile since he's had to deal with a guy with those type of ground skills. I don't really count the Gracies' he fought because they don't have well-rounded games like Diaz does.

This Strikeforce card could prove to be one of the best of the year.

Karo Parisyan isn’t going anywhere … just finally training at UFC blog for UFC news, results, videos, rumors, fights, pics and tickets — MMAmania.com

We understand some of the problems he's faced, but the guy has 7 decision wins (2 of which are split). He's only finished 2 fights in the UFC out of 12. His judo skills are enough to keep him in fights, but if he wants to really be a contender, he's got to step it up in training, round out his skills, show his commitment to the sport by having a proper gas tank. Once he starts doing these things, he's gonna start finishing fights and that's going to lead to a title shot. Training with Greg Jackson's camp is a good move for him and hopefully it's a sign of things to come.
Yeah, I admit I jumped on that one.

But you make a lot of sense with the comparison to BJ.

I really hope he builds more strength and gets ripped

...and you should probably talk to your cousin about this too.

Parisyan tests positive; says he followed rules - MMA - Yahoo! Sports

C'mon man. You think they're not going to notice this?

    My favourite part was this:
Parisyan informed MMAWeekly that he had agreed to face Josh Koscheck at UFC 98 on May 23 in Las Vegas if the American Kickboxing Academy fighter was victorious in his upcoming bout against Paulo Thiago at UFC 95.

“They better not do anything to screw that up,” said Parisyan. “I’m gonna go beyond training for this fight."
Really Karo? Really? They??? Um, this is pretty much all his fault and if this fight falls through because he gets suspended, he's got no one to blame but himself.

    :( I saw that.

I'm very disappointed and I hope it's just a misunderstanding among the UFC and his doctors

Wow, if it's not one thing, it's another with Karo.

    Quick hits:

Big Nog vs Couture possible for June, still in Germany though. Am I the only one who thinks this should be part of UFC 100?

Karo's win could very well end up being overturned to a No Contest, prescription or not.

BJ Penn did a radio interview on his website last night.
    - Said he doesn't remember rounds 3 or 4.
    - Ken-Flo was the one who tipped him off about GSP greasing (Kenny's already denied this) and that GSP was on steroids (I assume this is typical BJ mind games).
    - He would do the Primetime show again, but be more careful about what he says now that he's seen the way they edit it.
    - Not going to change his camp at all.
    - In negotiations for the Ken-Flo fight.

Chael Sonnen is crazy because he claims that himself and Maia are the best MWs around, even better than Anderson.

UFC 97 is in trouble because of some french idiot (Stephane Patry, former president of TKO in Montreal), tried to organize an MMA like event, but with new rules, and didn't bother running anything by the athletic commission, and so the commission is probably changing the accepted MMA rules in Quebec. The UFC is highly unlikely to accept new rules for one event.

I imagine the UFC is looking at a new venue somewhere else. Alberta has MMA fights, maybe they will stay in Canada and just change provinces. It will certainly suck for all those UFC fight club members who bought their tickets yesterday.

Sounds like the UFC is pretty confident that the fight will happen. The commission isn't changing the rules they want to enforce the ones that have always been in the books. However there have been numerous shows in Quebec using the unified rules including the UFC with GSP-Serra, so there is precedent involved.

Also this event will bring in a lot of money into the economy. Can't imagine that they will pass up on the easy opportunity to bring in some money.

Lorzenzo and Ratner were in Quebec yesterday apparently to meet with the commission. Hopefully they get something worked out.

If not, they've said they're moving the show back to Vegas.

So what does everyone think about this weekend's card?

Pretty decent card and if course it's great that it's free. I think Diego will be very dangerous at 155, the first fight at LW might be tough because it will be his first time cutting, but Diego is a former wrestler so I don't think it will affect him that much.

I think the Nate Marquardt-Wilson Gouveia fight will be an exciting one and I think Sonnen-Maia will be good.
