The Official MMA Thread

Back from UFC 97. My seats weren't horrible, but they weren't good. lol. Literally the last row in the building. The view was okay though except for a lighting rig that partially blocked the left side of the octagon (the red corner). Had a good time though. Took lots of pics but was too far to get many quality shots.

There were 3 fights that were really bad (Loiseau/Herman, Silva/Leites & Kang/Foupa-Pokam), but the rest were entertaining.

I'd definitely go again, but would want to be a fair bit closer (2nd level at most).

Glad you had a fun time. Watched the card. I feel bad for Silva right now though. No one wants to fight him at this point because they're afraid of getting Franklin'd. What you saw last night was really "typical" Anderson Silva. The difference now is that no one wants to engage the guy. You saw any time he tried to mount an attack, Leites fell on to his back. Was a pretty poor performance. The UFC HAS to give him someone that will challenge him at this point. Who? I have zero idea.

Chuck? He's gotta be done right? At this point what are his options? Is he going to be fighting on the undercard against guys like Houston Alexandar now? I can't see him or the UFC doing that. I can't see him beating any of the top guys anymore either. Not really any other options for the guy it would appear.

Also, Shogun looked better for sure. It will be interesting to see if he can string together some more performances. He sure did look a little jittery out there though. I wouldn't say he looked GREAT against Liddell, but he looked miles better than he did against Coleman. I figure he'll get some combination of Jardine or Cane next. That 205 division is loaded though so who knows.

Here's a thought. If Wanderlei Silva beats Rich Franklin in Germany would we perhaps see Wanderlei get a title shot? Remember Silva is moving down to 185 and he has to get by a tough fighter in Rich Franklin first but I think this is a real possibility.

Obviously Yushin Okami, Damien Maia, and Nate Marquardt are far, far more deserving of a title shot but none of those fights are as exciting as a potential Anderson Silva-Wanderlei Silva fight. I wouldn't put it past Dana to make this fight if Wanderlei beats Rich. I don't think it would be fair to the other contenders, but you better believe I would be the first one to buy that card!

Especially with the bad blood Wanderlai has been trying to promote in the last week, I could totally see Dana making that fight.

I don't think Okami, Marquardt or Maia are there yet. Okami has some wins, yes, but who has he really beat? No one of any real value. Thales Leites had some wins as well, but none of any real value (he lost the Nate fight). Same with Maia, and after last night, I doubt Dana is going to be chomping at the bit to throw anothe BJJ guy at Anderson. Marquardt is only 3-1 since he lost to Anderson. Wanderlai is a big name, and the UFC can really play up the "former training partners" angle.

As for Chuck, (I'd have to watch the fight again), but my buddy & I both thought he looked good prior to the KO. I agree that he probably can't beat most of the top guys anymore, but I still wouldn't count him out against most.

I'd think that UFC should take away points for intentionally falling on your back like what Leites did. that was f'ing annoying, especially to Silva.

I feel sorry for Chuck. he knew he is past his prime when they put him in the undercard.

btw, which chick is hotter? I like the Asian looking one. the other has the Octomom Lips.

I could see them doing that but, to be honest, I don't see Wand getting past Franklin right now. He's just got nothing left. Though, we know Franklin likes to take a beating so who knows.

I'm almost 50/50 on Anderson losing his next fight too. There's a point where cockiness will get you killed and he's right about there. You watch him fight against Leben and he's cautious, but not like he does now. He's done more dancing in his last two fights than I care to remember. If he fights Marquardt, I wouldn't be that surprised to see him lose. In fact, I'd put money on Nate because I think it's a solid bet for an upset.

I love Anderson, but if he wants to be challenged he should move up to 205. Otherwise he's just wasting everyone's time.

Also, been messing around with the UFC demo. It's pretty solid. A lot of options and different things. I'm not sold on it yet because it seems fairly hit or miss (no pun intended). You get to play as Shogun vs. Chuck and you don't really have a feel for where your fighter is in regards to health or awareness. You'll give a guy a beating for two rounds and then he cold cocks you with a superman punch. Seems to be too many knockdowns too.

I do like the transition and takedown game. Could make for some fun party events for sure. I'll be curious how the final game is.
