It wasn't the "MAIN" event though. And I'm pretty sure it was given some push marketing wise because Bisping is English and the fight was in England.

I'm curious to see what the UFC will do. If you remember, Tito-Shamrock II was supposed to be the main event of their particular card. But Sylvia bitched and moaned and that fight ended up being the main event.

Not really a big deal, just anxious to see how it plays out.

Some of my thoughts after this card:

    1. They REALLY need to figure out how to judge these fights better. They give too much stock to a wrestler taking someone down in my opinion. A takedown is one thing, doing something with it is another. It's effectively like giving someone credit for securing a clinch, or pinning someone against the cage, or gaining their back. I get tired of watching guys take someone down with 10 seconds left in the fight and "winning" the round. That's what Koscheck did against Diego, that's what Rashad and Tito do when they can't get anything else going. It's a horrible way to decide a fight. Did Rashad win that fight? According to the judging rules, sure. According to anyone watching? No way. Neither did Bisping for that matter. Neither guy WON. Should have been a draw as far as I'm concerned.

    2. Silva is a beast. Was surprised to see Alexander come out so slow to be honest, but was equally impressed with Silva keeping him at a distance. Both guys are pretty powerful, but Silva looked mean and nasty. Add another guy to the 205 division with some potential.

    3. "J-Lo" (uggggggggggggh) is pretty quick. Yes, that guy was a can. Yes, he looked like a monkey with those ears. Yes. Yes. Yes. He can fight though. Would like to see him step up in his next fight against someone stronger. He's a little thin, but he can move. I think Florian would be a really really tough fight for him, but I don't think he should be up there yet. Maybe have him fight that other young kid in there. Jeremy Stephens? I think those two would be a heck of a matchup. Or Nate Diaz. Give those two guys a go.

    4. MMA needs a ranking system bad. It's getting really hard for me to defend when people say that it's like the WWF how they just match people up without any real rhyme or reason. It's sorta true. Look at Jardine as an example. The guy is supposed to be a stepping stone for Griffin to fight Chuck. He beats him. What's his reward? Alexander. Gets beat by him. Then? He fights Liddell. Beats him. Then who? A rematch with Alexander? Who just got smoked? There needs to be some consistency to these things and not just someone saying, "So and so would make a good fight" like it's fantasy MMA.

Another question I wanted to ask you guys. What is your thought on the different promotions? Not which one do you like and why, but more of a "Is this a good thing"? Would the MMA world be better off with several different promotions as it is now, or one set of unified rules and regulations with prize fighting instead of contract fighting? I can see pros and cons to both and, quite honestly, see it developing away from contract fighting in a couple of years.

Interesting post over at Sherdog pre-78:

    http://www.sherdog.net/forums/showpo...02&postcount=1

    Some tidbits:

    Dropping weight class
Said he has been telling Vera ever since he joined the UFC to drop to 205. Stated he has told Bisping to drop, and also Rashad.
    TUF
Said they should probably never have anther season of TUF HW's. Stated the simple lack of depth and true HWs as the reason. Pointed out the only 2 good fighters still in the UFC from the HW part of TUF are Jardine and Evans, and they are both really LHW. Stated the lack of depth is one of the reasons as soon as they acquired WEC he cut the HW division.
    Jake Shields
Admitted he couldn't talk to shields about a contract, but said Shield's people contacted him asking if the UFC would be interested. Silva said they said they were, however at the 23rd hour EliteXC offered Shields a crap load of GUARANTEED money.
    Cro Cop
Cro Cop thinks he is fighting in January, however Silva said they ahve not even been able to contact his management
Other stuff on there too that's worth a read. Apparently this was during a sit down with Fight Club members.

Serra Injured, Withdraws From UFC 79 Card
    http://www.ufc.com/index.cfm?fa=news.detail&gid=8808

Interesting. What does the UFC do now? Replace Serra with GSP or Fitch? Or just scrap the match for now (the more likely option)?

I vote for Crocop vs AA!!!

Bad news... This is what the UFC gets for delaying this title fight till December because of the reality show.

Anyways since the champion is hurt, I don't think the UFC will have Hughes fight somebody. If it were the other way around, they would definitley replace Hughes with GSP then give Hughes the title shot at whoever wins. Similar to when GSP got hurt(he was the challenger at the time) and was replaced by BJ Penn. GSP then got his title shot against the winner.

I'm guessing that the UFC will want Hughes-GSP III to be a title fight(just means more). And since Hughes has said doesn't have many more fights left in his body he probably wouldn't want to take a marquee non title fight.

Let's hope they add another marquee match to that card. But even without the title fight it's a solid card. Just weaker now, but yea if they add Arlovski onto the card that would be good.

Yea, definitely. But all of these (potentially) great fights were supposed to make up for the last card. Does Serra have the record now for longest tenure w/ the belt w/o even having a fight? lol.

Haha might be. Keep in mind that the finale is also in December at that looks like a pretty solid Spike card. I'm really looking to that Huerta-Guida match. Huge test for Huerta.
