Big John McCarthy retiring after Saturday's card.

Report says he'll take a job as an analyst with the Fight Network. And honestly who better to analyze fights than Big John?

It will be weird not seeing him in the Octagon.

HDNET FIGHTS: FEDOR EMELIANENKO TO FIGHT LIVE ON HDNET!
    http://www.hdnetfights.com/news_120707_01.php

Andrew Simon, CEO of HDNet Fights, announced today that HDNet will feature the man considered by many to be the greatest fighter in any weight-class, Fedor Emelianenko in a LIVE bout from Japan only available in the United States on HDNet.
Since I live in Canada, we don't get HDNet. But from what I understand, most people in the US don't either. Add that to the fact that it's still not 100% confirmed who Fedor is fighting (rumors include some 7 foot Japanese kickboxer), and this seems like less and less of a big deal.

Default Penn vs. Stevenson for Lightweight Title?!?!

On The Ultimate Finale tonight, they advertised Penn vs Stevenson as being for the Lightweight title, not for the "Interim" title. I guess this means Sherk has been stripped? Haven't seen anything official.

    Yep. It's official:

Without much fanfare, the Ultimate Fighting Championship stripped Sean Sherk of the lightweight championship. Company officials confirmed this information on Saturday before its event in Las Vegas.

Huerta-Guida was one of the best fights I've ever seen. Tremendous and non stop action from both guys.

Yeah, the Heurta vs Guida fight was unreal. I thought Huerta was done at the end of the 2nd. Too bad for Guida, he was doing awesome, and had to be ahead on the scorecards. However, when you have that sort of style, you're bound to get caught. Regardless, definitely one of the top 5 fights this year. I'm kinda glad it didn't go to a decision, but I really would've like to have seen it go Guida's way.

Thought so too. I guess they're trying to keep it hush hush. Sherk was one of their golden boys and all. Just pretend like it never happened and that BJ and Stevenson are fighting for it. There should at least be a blurb on there, but I guess this is the way they're gonna do it.

Wow, what a great match. All in all a good undercard as well. The only thing that bothered me a little bit was the season long letdown with Mac winning. It felt groomed for him from the get go with no serious competition.
