Smackdown was surprisingly mediocre this past Friday... which is weird since they usually give a better effort than RAW.

MVP pinning Jack Swagger?
Matt Hardy vs Drew McIntyre for the 15th time in the last few months?
Rey Mysterio pinning Dolph Ziggler DESPITE being distracted by Kane?

Don't really like the booking but what can ya do? We're just fans. Anyway... onto Summerslam! LGKers that will be at Staples Center tomorrow? Dexter, KingsRock20, Matt Young, Watti, and yours truly. Any other LGKers going?

WWE Summerslam PPV Predictions

Pretty poor buildup to the PPV outside the 3 big matches. LOTS of midcard/main event wrestlers don't even have a match which unfortunately makes the WWE look pretty stupid...

Let's see who doesn't have a match shall we?

Christian, Drew McIntyre, Jack Swagger, Matt Hardy, Dashing Cody Rhodes, MVP, Evan Bourne, & Ted DiBiase.

Mark Henry and The Great Khali are "injured" so they aren't going to be around in case you wanted to include them in the list.

I don't know about you but I personally hope there is some kind of filler battle royal or something just to let them work a PPV match. Anyway, time to start with the predictions.

WWE Intercontinental Championship Match: Dolph Ziggler (Intercontinental Champion) w/Vickie Guerrero vs Kofi Kingston

Kofi Kingston has recently shown his "nasty" side. Not in a heel way but in a "I can be crazy" kind of way... which is interesting. Dolph Ziggler has waited a WHOLE year to win the IC belt (no thanks to Rey Mysterio), which is why I don't see him dropping it so soon. I think Dolph Ziggler will win with his sleeper hold submission or a rollup. Then Kofi Kingston can go bananas on Dolph Ziggler to fire up the crowd.

My Prediction: Dolph Ziggler retains his IC Title.

WWE Divas Championship Match: Alicia Fox (Divas Champion) vs Melina

WWE is high on Alicia Fox. Melina comes back and immediately gets thrown in the title picture. All signs point to Melina winning the Divas Championship but since she got the best of Alicia Fox last Monday night... I think Alicia Fox will win this match so their feud can continue.

My Prediction: Alicia Fox retains the Divas Championship by cheating somehow.

Big Show vs Straight Edge Society - CM Punk, Luke Gallows, Joey Mercury w/Serena

Handicap Match? That only means one thing... Luke Gallows and Joey Mercury are going to get thrown around like rag dolls. Pretty sure CM Punk hasn't fully healed from his surgery yet, which is why this is a Handicap Match. Also on Smackdown, Todd Grisham mentioned that they don't need to tag in and out. IT's all 3 men in the ring at once.

Can you believe it though? Last year CM Punk was the main event at Summerslam. I'm not saying he's not a main-eventer anymore because I love what hes doing with the SES. It just makes you think... one year makes a huge difference.

Back to the match... if Big Show wins, there is no way CM Punk gets pinned. It can go two ways here... Big Show wins and Punk gets pissed at the SES for failing him or CM Punk pins the Big Show by himself and will say he doesn't need the SES anymore and will go solo again. I'll go with Punk winning.

My Prediction: CM Punk wins with the Anaconda Vice submission.

WWE Championship Match: Sheamus (WWE Champion) vs Randy Orton

There is a stipulation that if Orton loses to Sheamus, he cannot challenge him for the title again and needs to go to the "back of the line". Also, no one can interfere in the match because if they do, they're suspended indefinitely.

So... as much as I would like to see Sheamus retain his title (because he needs a longer title run), he won't because there is no way Orton isn't going to get a rematch. I also can't recall the last time Randy Orton won a championship as a face. He is WAY over and will probably get one of the biggest pops at Staples Center. Hopefully it's a good match!

My Prediction: Randy Orton wins the WWE Championship after an RKO.

Now the BIG question. Is The Miz going to cash in his MITB Contract? I would be insanely happy for him if he cashed it in and won the WWE Title, but I have huge fears that he might be the first person to fail to cash in the contract also. Whether or not he cashes it in will most likely play a big part in the Team Cena vs Team Nexus match.

World Heavyweight Championship Match: Kane (World Heavyweight Champion) vs Rey Mysterio

Rey Mysterio will be over with the crowd. Thank goodness he isn't winning this match. Kane is going to win the match, probably "injure" Mysterio and then Undertaker comes out for the save. They've been building up Undertaker vs Kane the whole time. Kane worked his way to to the top by putting Undertaker in a "vegetative state". No way these two brothers feud without the World Heavyweight Championship on the line.

Oh yeah, expect a casket to be in play...

My Prediction: Kane after a Tombstone.

Elimination Tag Team Match: Team WWE - John Cena, Bret Hart, Edge, Chris Jericho, John Morrison, R-Truth & Mystery Partner vs Nexus - Wade Barrett, David Otunga, Justin Gabriel, Skip Sheffield, Heath Slater, Michael Tarver, & Darren Young

If The Miz cashed in the MITB and is the new WWE Champion, then he will probably be the 7th member. If he did not cash it in or fail to then I don't think he'll be the 7th member.

I think Nexus will get a few eliminations early to establish them as "unbeatable". Obviously, the first ones to get pinned on Team WWE will be R-Truth and John Morrison. I can see Darren Young, Heath Slater, and David Otunga getting eliminated later as well.

If anything, I think the 7th member isn't going to come out until Cena and Bret Hart are the remaining ones. This is the best part of the PPV, we don't know who the hell its going to be. HHH? Daniel Bryan? The Miz? Hell, maybe The Great Khali will "fight against all the injuries he sustained" and come back to clean house.

But I'm going to stick with my prediction and say that Nexus wins. The 7th mystery member will turn on Cena and get him pinned. Hell, Bret Hart can turn heel and get Cena pinned. If that doesn't happen, then I sure hope Cena turns heel and screws his team over.

Bottom line... Nexus isn't going to win cleanly. I'll be damn surprised if they do (and that might in fact make them look EXTREMELY good).

My Predction: Team Nexus will survive. Especially Wade Barrett.

Well, that's all I got! Hope you guys read them before seeing the PPV.

I'm not sure what to expect from the results since I kind of expect heels to win most of the matches, but I can't see that happening without either Orton winning the title or Team WWE winning. I'll go with Orton. I like him a lot, though I think Sheamus needs a longer title reign. Melina, I can see winning, especially being in LA, though I could see them stretching that feud out. Unfortunately, I can also see Big Show winning. :-\ I'm just going to go with what I did for the UFC PPV and pick who I want to win.

Yea, two matches ending in DQ was pretty dull. The Miz was awesome as usual on the mic, hoped he would cash in his title shot.

You guys missed Cole's groan inducing commentary last night....basically giving the Miz verbal fellatio on the air and burying Daniel Bryan every chance he got. So he's a face announcer cheering on a top heel? I don't get it.

Cole is a face announcer on RAW but a heel announcer on NXT. It seems like he's just trying something out and will probably eventually become a heel announcer full time. Which is why I still think he's the RAW GM.

In fact, it started in NXT Season 1 when Cole attacked the "internet fans" for thinking Daniel Bryan is "the best wrestler in the world". That's when he started rooting for The Miz and has openly shown it, even on RAW.

Summerslam PPV Review - 8/15/10
My Review Score: 4/10

I'm going to need to change my predictions to become a little more predictable. I keep going for something "over the top" and I end up very very wrong.

I had a really good time at Summerslam. Then again, I was watching it with friends so the live experience is always fun for me. After having some time to think about the PPV... the results and overall quality of the PPV was not so good. Then I compared this PPV with last years Summerslam PPV and this might have gone down as one of the worst Summerslams ever.

Dark Match: Evan Bourne vs Zack Ryder

Not much to say here. Typical dark match where the face wins to get the crowd fired up. It was cool to see the Air Bourne (Shooting Star Press) in person.

Result: Evan Bourne via pinfall.

WWE Intercontinental Championship Match: Dolph Ziggler (Intercontinental Champion) w/Vickie Guerrero vs Kofi Kingston

Good match for what its worth. These two can work together well. Nexus running in was a surprise since I wasn't expecting it. But looking back... did they really have to interrupt an Intercontinental Championship match? Ugh. Just like that... the PPV started on a bad note.

Result: No Contest.

WWE Divas Championship Match: Alicia Fox (Divas Champion) vs Melina

So much for WWE being high on Alicia Fox. They absolutely buried her in this match. She got little to no offense in. Melina wins back the Divas Title with little effort. LayCool came out to taunt her. Most likely setting up a Night of Champions match between them.

Result: Melina wins the Divas Title.

Big Show vs Straight Edge Society - CM Punk, Luke Gallows, Joey Mercury w/Serena

Goodbye SES. CM Punk did a good job with SES, but if you think about it... this stable went nowhere. The match was somewhat fun. We saw SES triple teaming Big Show. We saw Big Show making SES look like complete fools. Ultimately, the match ended in Big Show's favor because CM Punk walked out on SES.

Result: Big Show wins by pinfall after chokeslamming Joey Mercury onto Luke Gallows.

WWE Championship Match: Sheamus (WWE Champion) vs Randy Orton

Very good match followed by a piss-poor DQ finish. Orton and Sheamus were working a back and forth match that was fun to watch. They countered each others finishers which was really good for suspense. Then what happens? Sheamus decides to grab a chair and the ref wanted to play tug of war with him. Ref loses that battle and disqualifies Sheamus.

Way to go Vince. DQ finish for the WWE Title on the 2nd biggest PPV of the year. I guess he thinks Night of Champions is a better PPV than Summerslam.

Result: Randy Orton wins by DQ.

After the match, Orton gives Sheamus an RKO on the announce table. The table didn't break and Sheamus was hurt. Crowd started a "We want Miz" chant but he didn't even show up to cash it in.

World Heavyweight Championship Match: Kane (World Heavyweight Champion) vs Rey Mysterio

This was probably the match of the night. The only unfortunate part is that no one gave a damn about the match because everyone was expecting The Undertaker to show up. Rey Mysterio didn't really get much offense in and its good to see Kane being so dominant.

Kane retains his World Heavyweight Title after giving Rey Mysterio a chokeslam.

The fun part about the match is that they kept teasing Undertaker's return. It was hilarious when we all groaned everytime he opened the casket and it was empty.

Result: Kane retains by pinfall.

After the match, Kane tombstones Rey Mysterio and was going to stuff him in the casket. Finally, the Undertaker appears in the casket (really cool how they do that) and the crowd ROARS in approval. We can't hear what Taker says to Rey but he eventually turns and points to Kane. They try to chokeslam each other but Kane got the upper hand and gave Undertaker a tombstone.

It was interesting to see Undertaker get owned like that but this is good moving forward. Kane being able to tombstone Undertaker so easily goes to show that he was indeed the one that put Taker in the vegetative state. This is the only match I have no problems with as they settled one thing and moved onto the other.

Elimination Tag Team Match: Team WWE - John Cena, Bret Hart, Edge, Chris Jericho, John Morrison, R-Truth & Mystery Partner vs Nexus - Wade Barrett, David Otunga, Justin Gabriel, Skip Sheffield, Heath Slater, Michael Tarver, & Darren Young

Oh god, where do I begin? First things first... Daniel Bryan being the 7th member was really cool to see. He really impressed me and I can see why so many people are high on him.

Onto the match... Darren Young and Michael Tarver got eliminated really quickly. Now we know who WWE is high on and these two certainly are on the chopping block. John Morrison and R-Truth lost first which was not surprising. Thankfully, they made Skip Sheffield look powerful.

Bret Hart even got himself eliminated by hitting Sheffield with a chair. The way they got Bret DQed was smart since I wasn't sure how they would get rid of him without him taking a bump.

Once again, Jericho and Edge turned on Cena. They didn't really turn on him... they eliminated guys like David Otunga and Skip Sheffield before deciding they didn't want to tag in Cena. A bit of mis-communication allowed Nexus to eliminate Jericho and Edge.

Daniel Bryan was the highlight of Team Cena. He was lightning quick with unique moves like a running dropkick. He reminds me of Chris Benoit with great suplex moves and a really devastating looking Crippler Crossface. He even reminded me of HBK when he was on his back and jumped back on his feet. The Miz (who got replaced as the last member) came out and hit Daniel Bryan with the MITB Briefcase which allowed Wade Barrett to pin him.

Keep in mind, this is all Wade Barrett did! WWE made him look extremely weak by not having him eliminate and dominate more people. With Barrett and Gabriel left against Cena you know it can't be good. Barrett gives Cena a DDT onto the concrete floor and Cena doesn't sell it.

He pins Justin Gabriel after he missed the 450 splash and then quickly locks in the STF on Barrett and he taps immediately. Terrible terrible booking.

After all the months of building up Nexus, they immediately became irrelevant because Super Cena won. What's the point of Cena recruiting a "team" that couldn't function with each other when he could win it by himself? It's one thing for Team WWE to turn heel and cost them the match. Or if Team WWE still couldn't function together and they lost. But Team WWE didn't function together, didn't work as a team, and Cena won it all by himself. Stupid stupid stupid.

Result: John Cena wins after pinning Justin Gabriel and making Wade Barrett tap to the STF.

Again, fun PPV in person because I had a blast with my friends. But really bad PPV as a whole. Summerslam was made out to be a stepping stone as they move towards Night of Champions.

Going to RAW tonight... until next time!

Get Buckwheat (Young) and Bald Bull (Sheffield) off the stick, they'll be back in Florida within 2 months.
