Night of Champions PPV Review - 9/19/10 My Review Score: 10/10
Amazing PPV! Some of the matches were good and some were just great. The booking was pretty good and almost all the right people won as they build towards the Hell in a Cell PPV in 2 weeks.
I also went 5 out of 7 on my predictions. The only ones I got wrong was Big Show winning instead of Punk and Orton won because I picked Barrett.
-------------------------------------------------------
Intercontinental Championship Match: Dolph Ziggler (Intercontinental Champion) w/Vickie Guerrero & Kaitlyn vs Kofi Kingston
As I mentioned in my predictions, the stipulation for this match is that if Dolph Ziggler loses by DQ or Countout, Kofi Kingston will win the Intercontinental Title.
Good match to kick off the PPV. Unfortunately, this one was the weakest of the night mostly because we've seen Dolph vs Kofi for 5-6 weeks in a row now. The match was pretty much what you'd expect, back and forth action. Vickie Guerrero sent Kaitlyn, her NXT rookie to the back early in the match. They're teasing an affair between Dolph and Kaitlyn... but that's for a later time.
Kofi Kingston was pretty stupid at one point of the match. He delivered some devastating blows to Dolph outside the ring and the ref was already at an 8 count. What does Kofi do? He rolls Dolph back in.
The end of the match came when Vickie Guerrero almost slapped Kofi Kingston but Dolph stopped her because he didn't want to get DQed. This turned out to be a ploy because when Kofi went for the Trouble in Paradise, Dolph ducked in time and Kofi got his legs caught in the ropes. Dolph Ziggler hit the Zig Zag and got the pinfall victory.
Final Result: Dolph Ziggler retains the Intercontinental Championship by pinfall with the Zig Zag.
Big Show vs CM Punk
The only thing I didn't like about this match was that they could have waited two more weeks for the Hell in a Cell PPV. Instead, they wanted it on Night of Champions and the outcome surprised me.
Storyline wise, Big Show has already dismantled the SES. Punk meanwhile wants to take down Big Show because the SES couldn't. Punk also cut a really good heel promo but the Chicago crowd cheered for him anyway.
Big Show showed his dominance early but Punk went to work making Big Show look pretty bad. It was kind of short lived though because Big Show got the knockout punch in pretty easily and that was it.
Final Result: Big Show via pinfall after the knockout punch.
WWE United States Championship Match: Daniel Bryan vs The Miz (United States Champion) w/Alex Riley
This was the match I was looking forward to the most and it did not disappoint! The Miz got most of the offense in this match and Daniel Bryan did an amazing job selling his arm injury because The Miz was working on it all match long. Cena should really consider taking notes from Daniel Bryan on how to sell opponent's moves.
Alex Riley tried to interfere a few times but ended up looking quite silly. One time he got on the apron and The Miz hit him on accident. Alex Riley also tried to attack Daniel Bryan ringside but Daniel Bryan just threw him at the turnbuckle post.
Eventually, Daniel Bryan got The Miz in the LeBell Lock and The Miz tapped. This loss doesn't really hurt The Miz since he can continue his feud with Daniel Bryan while still holding the RAW MITB Briefcase. The Miz losing also helps Daniel Bryan's career so I'm excited to see where this feud goes.
Final Result: Daniel Bryan wins the United States Championship by submission with the LeBell Lock.
WWE Divas and Women's Unification Lumberjill Championship Match: Melina (Divas Champion) vs Michelle McCool (Co-Women's Champion)
This match was given more than 5 minutes. I'm shocked!!!
The Divas apparently don't understand the concept of a Lumberjill match but I guess that was the point. Apparently,
all the Divas hated Michelle McCool so they only attacked her and not Melina. As I mentioned in the predictions... they were teasing a LayCool breakup (which would be dumb because they're so great).
So thankfully, teasing it was all they did. After all the Divas went to attack Michelle McCool, Layla ran in the ring to attack Melina. She didn't really succeed but she provided enough of a distraction for Michelle to run back in the ring and give Melina a big boot Undertaker style to become the first ever Unified Divas Champion.
Final Result: Michelle McCool wins by pinfall to become the first ever Unified Divas Champion.
No Holds Barred - World Heavyweight Championship Match: Kane (World Heavyweight Champion) vs The Undertaker
This was a great match between the two giants. It moved at a good pace, not too slow, and not too fast. Kane
dominated the match, as he should. Undertaker really sold it well tonight.
Kane did look like he was in trouble towards the end when The Undertaker was able to give Kane a Chokeslam. When Undertaker picked up Kane for a Tombstone, Kane managed to reverse it into a Tombstone of his own. It was pulled off really beautifully.
Final Result: Kane retains the World Heavyweight Championship by pinfall after a Tombstone.
After the match, Jerry Lawler's tone of voice changed as if someone has died as the camera was showing Undertaker walk slowly to the back in pain.
WWE Tag Team Turmoil Championship Match: The Hart Dynasty - David Hart Smith & Tyson Kidd (WWE Tag Team Champions) vs The Usos vs Santino Marella & Vladimir Kozlov vs Mark Henry & Evan Bourne vs Dashing Cody Rhodes & Drew McIntyre
For a match WWE didn't even bother advertising (since they don't give a damn about the Tag Team Division), this match was really fun to watch.
There are 5 Tag Teams, only 2 Teams will fight at a time and the next one will come in when one loses by pinfall/submission.
The Hart Dynasty starts the match against The Usos. When The Usos came out, I was thinking, "Wow... they're out first to job." But then WWE surprised the hell out of me and everyone by having The Usos dominate The Hart Dynasty.
After holding the Tag Belts for a few months and never doing anything... they drop the Tag Titles in 3 minutes. The next team to come out was Santino and Vladimir Kozlov. This one was filled with comedy. Santino was about to use The Cobra but Tamina distracted him and he got pinned.
The 4th team to come out was Mark Henry and Evan Bourne. They made short work of The Usos after Mark Henry gave one of them the World's Strongest Slam followed by an Air Bourne finisher.
The last team to come out was Drew McIntyre and Dashing Cody Rhodes. They both worked over Evan Bourne and the match slow downed greatly into a regular Tag Team Match. Mark Henry eventually got the hot tag and it looked like they were going to win until he stupidly tagged out.
This allowed Drew McIntyre to take Henry out and then Dashing Cody Rhodes gave Evan Bourne the Cross Rhodes to win the WWE Tag Team Championship!
Final Result: Dashing Cody Rhodes & Drew McIntyre win the WWE Tag Team Championship.
WWE Championship Six Pack Elimination Match: John Cena vs Randy Orton vs Sheamus (WWE Champion) vs Edge vs Chris Jericho vs Wade Barrett
This match was pretty fun but it wasn't as good as the World Heavyweight Championship match. A huge shock to everyone was when Chris Jericho ate an RKO about 2 minutes into the match and got eliminated.
Everyone stopped wrestling and they all stood in disbelief as Chris Jericho slowly made his way to the back. Definitely a crappy sendoff for someone who is the best in the world at what they do. At the same time though, if he was going to take a break anyway, then let the other 5 guys wrestle right?
After Jericho left, Wade Barrett found himself surrounded by the other 4 superstars. It was funny because Wade Barrett said, "You have got to be kidding me". They quickly threw Wade Barrett out of the ring and Orton and Cena took out Edge and Sheamus respectively.
Orton and Cena had a staredown but Wade Barrett jumps back in the ring for some reason. Edge and Sheamus does the same again but they all get thrown out to tease more Orton/Cena.
Anyway, as the match progresses... Sheamus and Edge worked together against Cena and Orton. But after awhile, Edge stupidly attacked Sheamus. Not really sure why they broke up their alliance but whatever.
There was a sequence where Edge Speared Orton and Sheamus but Cena got Edge set up for the Attitude Adjustment. That was the end for Edge.
After Edge got eliminated... Nexus comes out!

The commentary was quick to point out that there are no disqualifications in this match so Nexus was free to attack people. They distracted Cena enough for Wade Barrett to use his finishing move on Cena and eliminate him! I totally jumped for joy when that happened.
Nexus then beat up Orton and threw him in the ring. But there was so much waiting around that you knew Orton was going to RKO Wade Barrett. So Orton finally stood up and Nexus was about to come in the ring to help attack but Cena destroys everyone with a chair. This allowed Orton to give Wade Barrett the RKO and Wade Barrett is eliminated.
All of Nexus and Cena leave the ring and Sheamus gives Orton a Brogue Kick. Sheamus looks like he has the match won but Orton kicks out after 2! Sheamus goes for the High Cross but Orton reverses it and gives Sheamus an RKO to win the WWE Championship.
Final Result: Randy Orton wins the WWE Championship.
After the match, Orton posed in the ring for over 5 minutes but The Miz never came out to cash it in. It makes sense that he didn't though since Orton wasn't "hurt". Also, The Miz isn't ready for a match inside the Hell in a Cell either so it would make more sense for him to cash it in after that match.

So there's my review. I really enjoyed the PPV. The 3 hours went by extremely quick. I can't believe the Hell in a Cell PPV is in 2 weeks though. That is just stupid but what can ya do?
