WWE Bragging Rights PPV Review - 10/24/10
My Review Score: 8/10
This was a pretty decent PPV. The only reason the PPV didn't receive a 10/10 from me is because of the terrible main event. The match was bad and the booking was a cop out. Everything else was really entertaining and that is why I gave the PPV an 8 rating.
For the predictions... I got 4 out of 5 correct. The only one wrong was that I picked Team RAW to win.
United States Champion Daniel Bryan vs. Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler w/Vickie Guerrero
This match kicked off the PPV and in my opinion, stole the show. A lot of back and forth action between Ziggler and Bryan. I think Dolph had the upper hand in the match and got in more offense. What made this match great was the high risk moves both Daniel Bryan and Dolph Ziggler executed throughout the match.
The end came when Dolph Ziggler had trouble putting Daniel Bryan away. He kept complaining to the official and Daniel Bryan capitalized and got the LeBell Lock submission on Dolph. He immediately tapped out. What really surprised me is that Vickie Guerrero didn't interfere at all.
Final Result: Daniel Bryan by submission.
WWE Tag Team Championship Match: Drew McIntyre & Dashing Cody Rhodes (WWE Tag Team Champions) vs Nexus - David Otunga & John Cena
With out 5 matches advertised, they needed extra matches. This one was pretty entertaining. I'm not sure why WWE didn't bother advertising this one. John Cena in a match would probably have gotten the PPV a few more buys.
This match happened because Dashing Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre were bragging about how no one from RAW or Smackdown could beat them. Things never turn out great for the heels when they brag about stuff like that... :76smile:
RAW GM says he has a team that can beat them and Wade Barrett came out. He "ordered" Cena to win the Tag Titles for Nexus and he did just that.
Otunga started the match off because he said, "I got this". He looked pretty bad because Drew and Cody worked him over pretty well. Otunga got pissed and tagged in Cena. John Cena then reminded me why I don't like him. He made the tag champs look BAD. He pretty much destroyed Dashing Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre. He eventually got the STF locked in on Drew McIntyre (I think) and won the titles himself.
I may not like Cena and how he hardly puts people over because of his Super Cena crap, but I like what WWE is doing here. Having the Tag Titles on Cena and Otunga makes it interesting.
Final Result: John Cena & David Otunga by Submission.
What made me laugh is when Otunga celebrated with two titles after the match and then he acted like he did all the work himself. Unfortunately, he ate the Attitude Adjustment and Cena left with both of the belts.
Ted DiBiase w/Maryse vs Goldust w/Aksana
Goldust on a PPV? Hell yes!!! The last time I remember Goldust having a feud is when he was feuding with Razor Ramon.
This match was good and it goes to show that guys like Goldust can put on a damn good match. Now if only William Regal is given a chance... that guy can really
Ted DiBiase needs the win here and bad. I'm glad he got it. Not quite sure if what he did was a new finisher or not, it was quite weak to be honest. It was like a... baby DDT.
Aksana wore a dress that was too short and it made her look silly when Maryse attacked her. She was so busy trying to pull down her dress that she couldn't defend herself.
Final Result: Ted DiBiase by pinfall.
After the match, Maryse took the Million Dollar Belt back but got clocked by Aksana. Ted DiBiase wanted the belt back but Aksana teased kissing him. Then Goldust gave Ted the Final Cut and left with the Million Dollar Belt again.
Divas Championship Match: Layla (Co-Divas Champion) vs. Natalya
This match was pretty good as well. It went about 10 minutes or so, and that's a good amount of time for a Divas match. Michelle interfered.. a lot.
If any Diva is going to take the belts from LayCool, they're going to need backup. Like I mentioned in my predictions, because Daniel Bryan won, Layla was winning this. Layla won when Michelle kicked Natalya in the head.
Final Result: Layla by pinfall.
WWE World Heavyweight Championship Buried Alived Match: Kane (World Heavyweight Champion) w/Paul Bearer vs The Undertaker
I liked this match a lot. Some might say it was slow paced but it was pretty good for Undertaker and Kane. I especially loved how they strayed away from the ring and just stayed outside. They went to a lot of different places in the crowd.
It always had me thinking, "If they ever fought near me in the crowd, I would be completely satisfied and would think it's worth the price of admission".
Undertaker dominated the match early on and Kane was struggling to defend himself. Eventually Kane got the upper hand and even gave Undertaker two
chokeslams in the ring!
When they got to the grave area, Undertaker got the upper hand and threw Kane in the grave. Before Taker could start shoveling dirt on Kane, Nexus interefered. All of the Nexus (minus Cena) attacked Undertaker for a few minutes. Kane eventually got back up and attacked Undertaker as well.
Kane threw Undertaker into the grave and Nexus shoveled dirt on Undertaker. Kane told them to go away and then did his pyro pose. I think the pyro exploded in the ring but then the bulldozer poured dirt on Undertaker. RIP (again)
A side note... I think Taker has been in 4-5 buried alive matches. I can't recall the last time he actually won one.
Final Result: Kane wins.
I was shocked this wasn't the last match of the PPV. We're suppose to believe that Taker is "dead" in the grave and the PPV is still going on? Also, after the match... Cole, King, and Striker used their quiet voices because Taker died or something. Yet a few minutes later, they're all cheerful again.
WWE Bragging Rights Elimination Tag Team Match: Team RAW - Ezekiel Jackson, Santino Marella, R-Truth, John Morrison, Sheamus, CM Punk, and The Miz vs Team Smackdown - Rey Mysterio, Jack Swagger, Edge, Alberto Del Rio, Tyler Reks, Kofi Kingston, and Big Show
Great entertaining match here as well. The crowd was really into it. The kept chanting "CM Punk!" even though he's a heel. :) There were also lots of "Miz is Awesome!" chants.
Santino got eliminated first, as expected. Tyler Reks didn't look too bad. Alberto Del Rio wasn't a team player because he attacked Rey Mysterio. I personally liked that because they just
had a feud on Smackdown. Just because they're on the same brand/team doesn't mean they should work together.
Big Show and Sheamus both getting counted out works because I couldn't see either one getting pinned cleanly. The end came when Edge and Rey Mysterio dominated The Miz, Ezekiel Jackson, and CM Punk.
Smackdown has "won" the Bragging Rights Cup for two years in a row now. Really surprised WWE had them win because Team RAW looked bad on RAW and Smackdown and they looked bad again at the PPV.
Final Result: Team Smackdown.
Striker made me laugh when he said something along the lines of, "This will probably be the only time Minnesota will ever enjoy the Cup". :peace:
WWE Championship Match: Randy Orton (WWE Champion) vs Wade Barrett w/John Cena
You know how WWE hypes the match with a promo video before the match? In the promo video, it showed how Wade Barrett became the #1 Contender and all that stuff. Basically, John Cena was suppose to help Barrett win the title or else he's fired.
WWE then did a huge cop out by having Barrett go on the mic before the match and he said, "Just in case you forgot Cena, if I don't win the match tonight, you're fired."
Right when he said that, I thought... NO! NO! NO! That means a DQ finish because Wade Barrett conveniently forgot to say if Cena doesn't help him win the title
, he'll be fired.
Someone pointed out that Cena couldn't follow more than one order at a time. How stupid is that? Cena always hesitates when Barrett tells him what to do. Why can't Barrett order Cena to stop hesitating?
The match was also only like 8 minutes long. There was a convenient ref bump that allowed the rest of Nexus to beat down Orton. Cena then came in and beat up Nexus but explained to Barrett he had to clear them out of the ring because the ref was waking up.
Then Cena gives Barrett the Attitude Adjustment before Orton can hit the RKO to give Wade Barrett the DQ win. When will Vince McMahon understand that DQ finishes for a PPV is STUPID?
Cena hands Orton the belt after the match and ate the RKO. Orton celebrated a DQ loss (lol) and then RKOed Barrett when he stood up. What a cheap way to "send the fans home happy".
Final Result: Wade Barrett by DQ.
Great PPV except for the main event. WWE is too scared to put the title on Wade Barrett. They're also too scared to make Cena wear the Nexus shirt. How frustrating.
