WWE Tables, Ladders & Chairs PPV Review My Review Score: 8.5/10
The gimmick matches worked for me. I thoroughly enjoyed the PPV from beginning to end. John Morrison and Sheamus was the match of the night and the Fatal Four Way TLC is a close second. Unfortunately, some of the booking was terrible but are we really surprised anymore? WWE Intercontinental Championship Triple Threat Ladder Match: Dolph Ziggler (Intercontinental Champion) w/Vickie Guerrero vs Kofi Kingston vs Jack Swagger
I had high hopes for this match and it was okay. It didn't exactly "wow" me nor did it disappoint me. Kofi Kingston was able to showcase some of his unique high flying moves which is always fun to see.
Some good spots in this match included Kofi Kingston trying to climb the ladder while Jack Swagger had the ankle lock submission going. We saw Dolph Ziggler put Kofi Kingston in a sleeper hold on top of the ladder too! I believe Ziggler also hit a Zig Zag on Kofi off the ladder as well.
The finish came when Kofi and Dolph were fighting off the top of the ladder. Kofi Kingston knocked Ziggler down and it looked like he was about to win the IC Title but Jack Swagger came and fought Kofi at the top of the ladder.
Both men tugged at the belt and took it off the reins only for it to fall straight down to the mat. Dolph Ziggler quickly picked up the Intercontinental Championship since he was knocked down earlier and he "won" the match.
When this happened, one thought went through my head. "Are they seriously opening the PPV with this stupid finish?" I was afraid it would set the tone for a very bad PPV but thank goodness I was wrong (for the most part).
As Dolph Ziggler and Vickie Guerrero celebrated their title defense up the ramp, the camera zoomed in on Jack Swagger who stood there saying, "No no no no no no no." Final Result: Dolph Ziggler retains the Intercontinental Championship. Divas Tag Team Tables Match: Lay-Cool vs. Natalya & Beth Phoenix
This Divas match was GREAT! In fact, it was the highlight of the first hour as crazy as that sounds. I think WWE gave this match a good 10-15 minutes which was very shocking to say the least.
All four of them got to shine. We saw lots of teamwork between the two teams. Beth Phoenix looked like she got seriously hurt when she landed outside of the ring on the back of her neck! But I'm glad to find out that she didn't get hurt at all.
They teased a lot of table spots but every time Beth and Natalya were about to put Layla through a table, Michelle would wisely shove the table aside.
The end came when LayCool took out Beth Phoenix and had Natalya set up on the turnbuckle. They took a long time trying to set this up which was great because it made you think LayCool was going to win. Beth Phoenix even fought back only to get slammed on the ring post by Layla for her troubles.
Natalya fought back on top of the turnbuckle but LayCool attacked her some more. Natalya ended up shoving both Michelle and Layla on the table but it didn't crack! That probably was suppose to end the match but since it the table didn't break, Natalya had to improvise and she did a top rope splash on LayCool (who were both on the table) to win the match.
I'm really surprised that Michelle went through a table. It just goes to show you that she's willing to do more than sleep with the Undertaker for the good of this business. Final Result: Beth Phoenix and Natalya. WWE Tag Team Championship Match: Santino Marella & Vladimir Kozlov (WWE Tag Team Champions) vs Justin Gabriel & Heath Slater w/Michael McGillicutty and Husky Harris
Santino cut a funny promo before the match and he called Nexus, Lexus. He also said that he and Vladimir are the "best in the galaxy at two on two grapple fighting."
Santino ended the promo by saying, "Tonight TLC stands for Totally Lethal Cobra!" which got a great pop from the crowd.
The match itself was your standard tag match. Santino got in some of his unique offense. Striker made a good point by saying Nexus didn't know how to defend against his weird moves... and strangely enough, it makes sense.
When Kozlov tagged in, he dominated a bit before Harris attacked him on the outside while Santino and the ref was distracted. Santino eventually got the hot tag and was about to defeat Gabriel with the Cobra until Harris distracted the ref and McGillicutty attacked Santino. The ref turned around really fast though and saw what McGillicutty did so he disqualified Nexus. Final Result: Santino Marella & Vladimir Kozlov retain the WWE Tag Team Championship by DQ.
After the match, Nexus beat the two of them down and Wade Barrett came out with a chair. Wade Barrett then attacked Kozlov and Santino about 2-3 times each with the chair and Nexus posed and left the ring.
The commentators tried to put over Nexus saying this is why they're so dominant... I really disliked this scene because there is no need for this to put Nexus over. They're already over as heels and if you're going to attack superstars, do it on RAW and not on a PPV. Ladder Match to determine the #1 Contender for the WWE Championship: Sheamus vs John Morrison
Best match of the night and quite possibly the match of the year. These two men fought hard and both looked great despite the outcome.
Morrison jumped off the turnbuckle and corkscrewed around the ladder to hit Sheamus early in the match.
Sheamus really worked on Morrison's leg throughout the whole match. There were some sick ladder moves that really look like it can tear JoMo's leg apart. Every time Sheamus climbed the ladder, Morrison kept grabbing at his leg despite getting beat down repeatedly.
There was this one ladder that was set up from the announce table to the ring by Sheamus. You knew he had to go through that one since he was the one who put it there. The finish came at that spot when Morrison and Sheamus fought on a ladder inside the ring. Both men took a huge spill outside the ring and Sheamus went through the ladder.
Morrison got back in the ring and climbed the ladder. Sheamus, who took a HUGE bump still managed to get up and tried to push Morrison over on the ladder. As the ladder tilted, Morrison stopped the ladder from falling by putting his foot on the top rope. He pushed the ladder back into position and kicked Sheamus in the head at the same time. It was a pretty sick finish and a great way to end the ladder match.
John Morrison grabbed the contract and celebrated on top of the ladder. Final Result: John Morrison is the #1 Contender for the WWE Championship. WWE Championship Tables Match: The Miz (WWE Champion) w/Alex Riley vs Randy Orton
This tables match started pretty slow but it had two GREAT finishes. Orton had the advantage early on and he had his way with The Miz. Every time Orton set up the table though, Alex Riley would knock the table away.
The ref kept yelling at A-Ri but since it's No-DQ, he could do whatever he wanted. By saying that though, it's a no-brainer that Riley should be attacking Orton every chance he got but there is no logic in the WWE.
One thing that immediately caught my attention was that the ref was in the ring during this match. All the refs were outside the ring in all the other matches, so why this one? Want to know why? Of course! We need a ref bump and that's where the finish came.
Orton knocked The Miz and the ref outside the ring while the table is already set up in the ring. Alex Riley comes in and ate an RKO. Orton then grabbed A-Ri and powerbombed him through the table. The Miz quickly snuck behind Orton and gave him the Skull Crushing Finale.
In a genius move, The Miz picked up A-Ri and dragged him away from the broken table. The Miz then dragged Orton on the broken table and woke the ref up outside. The ref saw Orton on the broken table and declared The Miz the winner.
This finish would have been perfect (in my opinion) but as The Miz was watching the replay on the titantron, so was the ref apparently. The ref got pissed and ordered the match to be restarted!
Michael Cole was irate and made a good point about WWE not having instant replay. You can't use instant replay just because the story made sense. I hate that. If you're going to use it, use it for every single match.
So Orton attacked The Miz. Orton was really pissed. Orton assaulted The Miz pretty badly including slamming him on the ring post outside. Orton shoved The Miz in the ring and climbed the apron. The Miz reacted quickly and shoved A-Ri (just as he was getting up) into Orton and Randy Orton flew into a table outside the ring.
The ref called for the bell and The Miz won again! This finish was really quick and it surprised the hell out of me. It makes The Miz look smart and at the same time, very undeserving of being a champ. Final Result: The Miz retains the WWE Championship. World Heavyweight Championship Tables, Ladders & Chairs Fatal Four Way Match: Kane (World Heavyweight Champion) vs Edge vs Rey Mysterio vs Alberto Del Rio
When this match was next, I was surprised and annoyed. How is Cena vs Barrett the main event over the two world titles? Unreal.
This match was really fun. Lots of action back and forth and lots of false finishes. Every time Rey Mysterio climbed the ladder, Alberto Del Rio was right there to stop him. The same would go for Edge and Kane as they would stop each other.
Early in the match, Kane was dominating (and rightfully so). Edge, Mysterio, and Del Rio all teamed up against Kane at one point until Del Rio started taunting. Then Edge and Mysterio attacked him.
Edge and Mysterio set Kane up on a table outside the ring and while Mysterio held Kane down, Edge jumped off the ladder inside the ring and onto Kane outside. It was a huge spot but dumb at the same time? Why was it dumb? Well, Mysterio climbed the ladder since Edge crashed down on Kane. Alberto Del Rio stopped Mysterio and suddenly Edge came in and speared both men. Uhhh.. Edge didn't sell that table spot. But that's not all! Edge climbed the ladder after he speared both men and Kane was suddenly up and stopped him. Kane got the worst end of that previous move but only sold it for 20 seconds. It was a great move but the no-sell was dumb.
All four guys ended up fighting on the stage which was interesting to see. When everyone was down and out, Rey Mysterio ran to the ring but Alberto Del Rio was right behind him again. The two men fought long and hard but then Mysterio ended up tilting the ladder over and Alberto Del Rio crashed to the floor on top of a table. This was a HUGE bump for Del Rio and probably the biggest bump of the night.
Rey Mysterio then climbed the ladder only for Kane to attack him and give him a Tombstone Piledriver. Edge and Kane fought each other and Edge speared Kane (who was on the apron) and he went through the table.
Edge climbed the ladder and won the World Heavyweight Championship for the 10th time in his career. What a great match between these four competitors. This match really should have been the final match. Final Result: Edge wins the World Heavyweight Championship Dashing Cody Rhodes, Big Show/Santa Claus, and Bella Twins segment.
Looking at the clock, there was still 45+ minutes to go in the PPV. You knew they had to stall for time... and we got this segment. Dashing Cody Rhodes was great on the mic as usual. I really love his gimmick. He was giving the city of Houston his grooming tips for the holidays.
Santa (Big Show) came out with the Bella Twins and they handed out Knucklehead DVDs to the crowd as a last ditch effort to sell the movie that bombed.
Dashing Cody Rhodes pretty much insulted Big Show and his weight and all that. He mentioned how Big Show looked stupid in his underwear like in the movie. Big Show said that Cody would be happier if he ran around in his underwear so Big Show pretty much... stripped Cody Rhodes.
The segment ended with Dashing Cody Rhodes stripped to his underwear. Yes, you really read that. Chairs Match: Wade Barrett vs John Cena
Before this match, they showed a few backstage segments with Cena taking out Nexus (yet again). Wade Barrett and Husky Harris were walking together backstage for no reason and they walked into their locker room to find Gabriel, Slater, and McGillicutty "destroyed".
Then in another backstage segment.. Wade was walking with Husky and told him to keep his eyes opened. As Husky walked through a door, Cena gave him one chair shot, which is apparently enough to keep him out for the whole night. Dumb.
Basically, it means Wade Barrett will have to fight Cena alone... and that can't be good for Wade.
So here we are... main event match for storyline that has derailed so bad. Unbelievable. I kept thinking to myself, why is this the last match? Something big has to happen right? Oh wait, who am I kidding? Cena is winning to send the fans home happy even though Edge winning in the TLC would have had the same impact.
This match was slow... really slow. It involved a lot stalled "chair fight" moments and running away from each other. Cena took a bunch of chair shots early but didn't sell it. Are we surprised at this point? Cena fought back and eventually gave Wade Barrett an Attitude Adjustment on SIX chairs. Final Result: John Cena by pinfall.
I'll admit, it was a cool finish and Cena got the victory from that. After the match, Wade Barrett started crawling to the back and Cena kept attacking him with more chair shots. Wade Barrett conveniently crawled to the part of the stage where the chairs can fall on him. There was this metal thing that holds chairs and Cena put it on top of Barrett to cover him. Cena pulled on the propped Chairs on the stage and it came crashing down on a covered Barrett.
Was this the "big" spot they planned which is why it's the main event? Because if it was, it was weak as hell. Cross Traffic said it best when one of the commentators said... "John Cena buried Wade Barrett".

. **** you WWE.
Where does Nexus go from here if you think about it? Sure, they got good exposure from this angle but at the same time looked extremely weak if they couldn't beat Super Cena.
So overall, this was a great PPV. Great matches and really exciting to watch. These wrestlers took lots of bumps in these gimmick matches.
Two hour RAW and a Live Smackdown (on Tuesday) coming up. I wonder where they'll go from here.
Royal Rumble is coming up next and that's my favorite PPV. Cena is looking like the favorite to win at the Rumble unless something interesting happens between now and then.
I'm looking forward to The Miz and John Morrison feuding for the WWE Championship too.
What did you guys think of the PPV?
