Thumbs up Monday Night RAW Review - 06/27/11

Monday Night RAW Review - 06/27/11

Alright, it's been bugging me all week but I have to talk about the CM Punk segment during the main event. It's a huge deal! Talk about bad timing though... with the double taping and the 4th of July holiday.

As for RAW, I had to work late so I missed the first 40 minutes or so. =\ I never went back to re-watch it either..

I read the results and it seems like Punk had a good segment with HBK (maybe I should re-watch it after all). HBK gave the sweet chin music to Otunga and McGillicutty as well. Way to put down the tag champs.

CM Punk fought a mystery opponent which turned out to be Kane despite Kane being on the Smackdown brand. Kane won by countout.

Sin Cara fought Evan Bourne because of the voting screwing up last week apparently. I missed this match too but saw that Sin Cara won. He's still undefeated.

Dolph Ziggler (United States Champion) vs Kofi Kingston

I got home when this match was in progress. Not sure why Vickie was banned from ringside. The match ended with Kofi Kingston hitting the Trouble in Paradise out of nowhere to pick up the win.

I do have to say this regarding Dolph and Kofi. STOP PUTTING THEM TOGETHER IN MATCHES! I'm sick of it! We've seen this 20+ times over the last year. Do we really care anymore?

Final Result: Kofi Kingston by pinfall.

Backstage segment with Booker T and Maryse. Holy crap was this pre-taped or what? Right off the bat, you can tell it's not even close to live. Alberto Del Rio came in and Maryse started hitting on him because they had a lot in common... like how Alberto Del Rio likes expensive things and so does she.

Anyway, Maryse spinned the wheel and it landed on a Steel Cage.

Steel Cage Match: Alberto Del Rio vs Big Show

This should be interesting. You probably knew going in that Alberto Del Rio isn't going to lose this match since he needs to look strong going into the WWE Title Match at Summerslam.

Big Show got to work early and I was okay with that. Big Show is an angry beast and rightfully so. Mark Henry came out and walked around the cage. Is Mark Henry going to climb the cage to get in? Probably not...

Couldn't help but notice that Alberto Del Rio went towards the door when he had a chance but the refs didn't open it for him. A-ha! So Mark Henry will break the door open. Well, since the refs didn't open the door for Alberto Del Rio, he climbed the cage... right next to the door.

Eventually Mark Henry broke in and laid out the Big Show. Alberto Del Rio crawled out of the cage door to win the match.

Final Result: Alberto Del Rio wins by escape.

After the match, Mark Henry brought in the broken cage door (that he ripped apart) and rammed Big Show with it. In a planted spot, the cage broke open and Big Show looked like he died. Very cool spot for Mark Henry. The World's Strongest Man is FINALLY showing his power and rage after 15 years in the business.

Submission Match: Kelly Kelly (Divas Champion) vs Nikki Bella w/Brie Bella

Submission match, I'm surprised. They usually force something like a Pillow fight on these lovely divas. The only problem with this match is that neither divas (or any for that matter), have a submission finisher!

This match was ridiculously short... maybe a minute. Maybe 2 minutes. Oh well. Kelly Kelly won with a Boston Crab and Nikki tapped immediately.

Final Result: Kelly Kelly by submission.

Backstage segment with Booker T and Rey Mysterio. Mysterio spins it and it lands on Tornado. Sweet! A Tornado Tag Match! After Rey Mysterio walked away... Diamond Dallas Page showed up!

Decent pop for DDP. He plugged the WCW Nitro DVD...

Drew McIntyre came in and insulted Booker and DDP, calling them old and that they're taking up TV time for young upcoming stars like him. (Isn't that the truth!)

HBK then hits the Sweet Chin Music out of nowhere on Drew... As much as I love HBK, I disliked this because you're practically insulting the young guys when they're stating a fact.

Anyway, DDP handed HBK the DVD... and HBK said he never watched it. He was working that night.

Tornado Tag Team Match: The Miz & Jack Swagger vs Alex Riley & Rey Mysterio

I love Tornado Tag matches and always wondered why they didn't do it more often. I now know why. It's because wrestlers stop in the middle of what they're doing until the camera is focused on them!

Tornado Tag Matches can be hectic. This match was slow because they kept waiting to do their moves when the camera was on them. It got a decent amount of time... but it wasn't all that exciting. Swagger got the worst of it in this match. He ate the 619, A-Ry's DDT and then the top rope splash. All in 3 seconds.

Final Result: Rey Mysterio and Alex Riley by pinfall.

Ahhh the dreaded Tables Match for John Cena. It seems like this is the only type of match that John Cena is almost guaranteed to lose in. Why? Because it requires outside interference and that because he gets put through a table, it doesn't "hurt" his credibility since it's not a pinfall or submission win.

This match was really short. Truth got some offense in, set a table up on the corner. Then Cena fought back, set up a table. Hits the Attitude Adjustment really early on R-Truth. That's when Punk came out and moved the table out of the way. John Cena still hit the AA, but missed the table. Punk then beat on Cena for 30 seconds or so. They get back in the ring and Cena got the upper hand. Cena was going to hit Punk with the Attitude Adjustment but R-Truth recovered and speared Cena through the table on the corner.

    Final Result: R-Truth wins.

CM Punk grabs the microphone and heads up the entrance ramp. Here is were the magic begins.

    CM Punk segment

I'm not going to even attempt to describe what Punk said. Look at the video Dexter provided earlier in the week. Watch that!

    [nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OS9wZGb_3g"]YouTube - ‪CM Punk Shoot On RAW 06/27/2011‬‏[/nomedia]

He mentioned Dwayne by name, Brock Lesnar, Paul Heyman. Gave a shout-out to Colt Cabana. Insulted Vince McMahon and that he can't wait for him to die. Then it wouldn't matter because of Steph and HHH. Great stuff! His mic got cut off when he was about to talk about the anti-bullying campaign.

All in all, it was tremendous. Great promo by Punk and it does go to show that he's the best in the business. He has earned his well deserved break from the WWE. Now I'm even more excited about the Money in the Bank PPV. Hell, it overshadows Summerslam completely, but that's what WWE wants right now. They want PPV buys and Money in the Bank happens to be next.

After RAW ended, they announced that CM Punk is "suspended indefinitely". They later changed it a little and said that he still has to work house shows.

That last segment really made RAW shine. No Zack Ryder again... and the pre-taped backstage segments with Booker T sucked. I'm glad we didn't get a stupid dance contest though!

Smackdown was great and I'll definitely comment on that later.

thanks for the recap TooCool, Punk's great promo has lost a lot of its luster now that the E is using a similar promo on the Australian tour and making it less awesome.

I haven't watched Smackdown in ages so I look forward to your recap

Smile Friday Night Smackdown Review - 07/01/11

Friday Night Smackdown Review - 07/01/11

Smackdown was really fun this week so I thought I'd write a review/recap.

The show started with Christian talking to Teddy Long about his rematch for the Money in the Bank PPV. Last week on Smackdown, he had to "earn" his title shot again, even though it was the referee's fault that he didn't see Christian's foot on the bottom rope.

Christian had to fight Kane. If Christian won that match, he would be the #1 Contender. If Kane won... nothing would happen for Kane. Well, Kane happened to have won that match via DQ because Mark Henry attacked Kane.

Teddy Long made a correct call by saying it wasn't fair to Christian. So he decided to do what he does best... which is make a Tag Team Match! It was Orton & Kane vs Henry and Christian. Mark Henry ended up getting the pinfall victory but Christian technically won since he is on Mark's team.

Back to this week's Smackdown with Christian talking to Teddy to start the show. Christian had a contract in his hands saying he can't wait to have that contract signing. Teddy Long said he's not the #1 Contender because Mark Henry won that match and not Christian. Teddy Long said that Mark Henry could be the #1 Contender. Especially if he beats Randy Orton in a bit. Obviously, Christian had the right to be upset because he still "won" that match. Christian stormed out of the GM's locker room.

Randy Orton (World Heavyweight Champion) vs Mark Henry

Mark Henry continued to look strong and Orton sold it pretty well. Orton got some offense in, but Henry was in control for about 80% of the match. When they fought to the outside, Mark Henry rammed Orton into the ring apron. The ref counted to around 3 by now. Then Big Show's music hit and the crowd popped. But wait, no Big Show.

Show's music stopped when the ref got to the count of 8. By this time, Mark Henry turned around, only to get RKOed by Orton. Randy quickly rolled back in the ring and won by countout.

Final Result: Randy Orton by countout.

This was the best way to go about it. Orton winning by countout allows the World's Strongest Man to look strong and the only reason he lost was because of the distraction of Show's music.

However, what happened after this match was AWESOME. Mark Henry was ticked off that he lost by countout. He made his way to the side of the stage where the pyro/tech/music guys are at. He destroyed the sound system and pretty much "murdered" the sound guy.

It was great to see Mark Henry's rage. Check out the video for yourself! I couldn't stop laughing when Mark Henry threw that sound guy into the dark background.

    Daniel Bryan vs Ted DiBiase

Both Daniel Bryan and Ted DiBiase came out to no music. Pretty cool if you ask me. Ted DiBiase had a small old school video promo as he came out. He said he hopes that Cody is watching and that he'll make him proud or something like that.

If you haven't been following, Ted is back with Cody because of how successful Cody is. I believe Michael Cole says that Cody is a great mentor and that Ted is learning from him.

The match itself was pretty good. Like Dolph vs Kofi, we've seen Ted vs Daniel countless times. Daniel Bryan sold the shoulder injury really well when Ted DiBiase threw him onto the barricades.

Daniel Bryan still managed to win this match by submission though. It was some kind of choke hold that led to Ted tapping out. When Daniel Bryan won, his music played. I guess they "fixed" it already. Bummer, I was hoping the whole show would go on with no music. That would have been different.

Final Result: Daniel Bryan by submission.

Ranjin Singh talks about Jinder Mahal segment

They showed a clip from 5 weeks ago when The Great Khali turned on his brother Ranjin Singh to join up with Jinder Mahal. Then there was a pre-taped interview with Ranjin Singh and he talked about who Jinder Mahal really is.

Basically he said that Jinder Mahal is rich while Ranjin and Khali were poor. Jinder was always jealous of Khali's fame in the WWE and all that stuff. So what Jinder did was eventually marry into the family. So now Jinder is the brother-in-law of Khali and Ranjin.

Interesting twist in the story. I wonder where they'll go from here though.

    Christian vs Sin Cara

Before this match happened, there was another backstage segment where Teddy Long said "Word on the street is that Christian came out of the sound truck", hinting that it was Christian who played Big Show's music. Christian denied it and said that he's the clear #1 Contender now since Mark Henry lost to Orton.

Teddy Long told him that he'll have to wait until the main event to sign the contract. In the meantime, he needs to get ready because he has a match against Sin Cara.

Now for the match itself, it was great. Match of the night material. Christian did a great job in making Sin Cara look as good as possible. I really liked how Christian kept stalling and backing away from the ring every time Sin Cara did his flips. The whole, "I don't want any of that" story he told was fun.

In the end, Sin Cara managed to counter the Killswitch but Christian managed to hit the Spear out of nowhere to win the match, giving Sin Cara is 1st ever defeat in the WWE.

    Final Result: Christian by pinfall.

Cody Rhodes w/Ted DiBiase vs Ezekiel Jackson (Intercontinental Champion)

What was really funny before this match started is that one of Cody's personal baggers handed Booker T a bag. Booker was PISSED!

Cody Rhodes played this match smart and kept attacking Big Zeke in strategic areas. Big Zeke managed to get some offense in by showing off his power. When it looked like Big Zeke was going to put away Cody, Ted got involved with a distraction. He ate the ring post for his troubles but Cody managed to jump on the middle rope and kick Big Zeke in the back of the head. Cody then gave Ezekiel Jackson the Cross Rhodes finisher to win!

Pretty interesting to have Cody defeat Big Zeke. They really do need to give Cody a run at the Intercontinental Championship though. This win will definitely help.

Final Result: Cody Rhodes wins by pinfall.

    Kane vs Wade Barrett

These two will be in the Smackdown Money in the Bank ladder match. The match itself was pretty good. Wade Barrett looked pretty strong for most of the match. Booker T was stupid though and Michael Cole called him out on it.

During the match, Wade Barrett was attacking Kane near the ropes. When Wade Barrett is doing a choke hold and things like that, he has until a count of 5 to break it up before getting DQed. Wade Barrett, like a natural heel does the holds up to the count of 4.

Booker T got on Wade saying he was wasting time. Michael Cole said, "How is he wasting time? He's working on Kane!" Then Wade Barrett attacked Kane in the corner and Booker T said, "Oh, now Wade is picking it up instead of wasting time." Michael Cole yelled at him by saying, "What are you watching?! Wade is doing the same thing he did 2 minutes ago!"

In other words... Booker T is terrible as a face announcer. He doesn't exactly know what he wants to say. =\ It makes him come off pretty stupid most of the time.

Anyway, as for the match... Wade Barrett eventually tried to hit The Wasteland on Kane but failed. Kane countered and won with a chokeslam. It was a decent match overall.

Final Result: Kane wins by pinfall.

Randy Orton, Christian, Teddy Long segment

I had a huge deja vu vibe watching this. It might have been the last contract signing on Smackdown. When we had Edge and Dolph Ziggler. I remember Teddy Long saying something like, "These contract signings never go smoothly."

Christian came out with a lawyer.

Before the signed the contract, Christian talked about how he knows he can beat Orton and that he will get the job done despite the corrupt officials. Oh, also in the contract it states that if the officials are corrupt again, Christian will automatically get ANOTHER title shot.

Orton then said before Christian became a whiner, he enjoyed competing against Christian. Orton then said that he'll now have to defeat Christian to shut him up once and for all. So Orton signs the contract and hands it to Christian.

Christian gives the contract for his lawyer to review. Christian then is about to sign it but low and behold... his pen doesn't work! Christian shakes his pen a few times and when he was finally about to sign it, Sheamus comes out from nowhere and attacks Orton.

Sheamus got punted by Orton right before the Capitol Punishment PPV so he's out for revenge. With Orton laid out, Christian goes up to Sheamus and asks him what the hell he's doing. Sheamus then hit Christian with the Brogue Kick. Orton wakes up, tries to RKO Sheamus but he countered and hits the Brogue Kick on Orton!

Both Orton and Christian are laid out side by side. Sheamus picks up the contract and tears it up.

Overall, fun show from top to bottom. The Money in the Bank PPV is looking really good.

So Punk called a fan a naughty word and the story and video was on TMZ. He issued an apology, but I don't think he's doing himself any favors at this point

I don't even know where to begin with the CM Punk/Vince McMahon/John Cena segments throughout the whole show from RAW last night. Absolutely AMAZING.

Why can't WWE build PPVs up like this all the time? Money in the Bank looks insane on paper, thanks to the storyline fueled by Punk/Cena.

I want ice cream bars!!! So did Jimmy Hart back in the day:

I would love to see Punk win, take the title with him and have Cena chase him around the world to get his job back. Have Punk defend the title in ROH, New Japan, etc. Would give Punk and Cena the time off from the grueling schedule they need.
