WWE SummerSlam PPV Predictions
After a terrific Money in the Bank PPV, I was wondering how SummerSlam can follow in its footsteps to be just as good. I personally think WWE dropped the ball in only announcing 5 matches for this card. It was originally four, but they added Daniel Bryan vs Wade Barrett last night.
Can anyone honestly tell me why people think they'll order the PPV if there are only 5 matches announced on the card? I mean sure, the WWE Undisputed Championship Match is going to be HUGE, but can that match itself *really* sell the PPV? Especially after they had a great match from Money in the Bank? Boy, that's going to be hard to top.
Thankfully, I already have tickets to SummerSlam since April... so I was already excited. I just wish it was promoted better. But anyway, with only 5 matches announced, he we go.
Daniel Bryan vs Wade Barrett
One year already huh?! Remember last year's SummerSlam? Wade Barrett and Nexus fought in a 7 on 7 match against Cena's team (which had Daniel Bryan make his return from being fired). I'm STILL sad that Cena buried Nexus so badly that night. Then you look at where Nexus is today... non-existent. =\
So in one year year... let's see what these two gentlemen accomplished:
Daniel Bryan: Former United States Champion and now Smackdown's Money in the Bank winner.
Wade Barrett: Former Intercontinental Champion
This match here isn't really from a feud. After the Money in the Bank PPV, Wade Barrett said he should have won the match and that Daniel Bryan got lucky.
It should be interesting though... both of these men came from NXT Season 1 and these two are the more "successful" ones out of NXT. The match itself could be fun if given a decent amount of time. I can see Wade Barrett working the power game here and Daniel Bryan countering with high flying moves.
If I had to pick someone who needs the win more, it would be Wade Barrett. But I'm going to stick with Daniel Bryan as the winner here just because he won the Money in the Bank match last month. Gotta keep the momentum going for D Bryan.
Quick note I wanted to throw out: Daniel Bryan already announced that he will cash in his briefcase at Wrestlemania.
My Prediction: Daniel Bryan wins by submission.
WWE Divas Championship Match: Kelly Kelly (Divas Champion) vs Beth Phoenix
Beth Phoenix won the Divas Battle Royal about 2 weeks ago and turned heel. Beth got on the mic and said to Kelly Kelly, "Your days as the cute, little blonde-haired bimbo are over".
Then on Smackdown, Natalya did the same and turned heel. Now Beth Phoenix and Natalya are called the Divas of Doom. There are two ways to go about this match.
#1 - Have Beth Phoenix absolutely destroy Kelly Kelly and win the Divas Title with a statement.
#2 - Kelly Kelly manages to win by a roll-up.
Obviously, choice #1 is the way to go. It makes the most sense, but then again... this is the WWE we're talking about. The Divas division is a joke. I'm sure we would all love to see Beth Phoenix and Natalya go crazy on the division and then have some diva step it up and make a feud out of it. But knowing WWE, they could easily kill any momentum Beth Phoenix has.
I'm going to pick Beth Phoenix to win the title though because I really really want the Divas Division to be treated seriously again.
My Prediction: Beth Phoenix wins the WWE Divas Championship by pinfall with the GlamSlam.
Sheamus vs Mark Henry
Mark Henry has been looking really good these past few months. He destroyed Big Show in a match, then proceeded to "injure" him with a chair. Mark Henry did the same thing later and "injured" Kane. Then Mark Henry did it again with Vladimir Kozlov.
They booked Mark Henry to be so dangerous that no one wanted to fight him. But then Sheamus decided to turn face and said he'll fight Mark Henry. This past Friday on Smackdown, Mark Henry tried to injure Johnny Curtis (who made his Smackdown debut after winning NXT Season 4). Sheamus saved him though and Henry ran.
As for this match... I really don't see Sheamus losing. Where does Mark Henry go from here though? He's definitely a monster. Perhaps he can control most of this match, but then Sheamus his a surprise Brogue Kick out of nowhere to get the victory.
My Prediction: Sheamus by pinfall with the Brogue Kick.
No Holds Barred World Heavyweight Championship Match: Christian (World Heavyweight Champion) vs Randy Orton
After HHH took over, he decided to make this a No Holds Barred Match. Christian of course, didn't agree with it because Orton has a new insane side to him. So that means that Orton can do whatever he wants in this match.
Storyline wise, Christian said he'll sue the WWE if HHH doesn't change this match because it's a "unsafe work environment". But HHH said that Christian has to fight in this match or else he'll fire him.
I really don't like what they did with Christian and his World Title reign. Christian is now coming off as a whiny guy who runs to his "lawyers" every time there is trouble. Unfortunately, this is the Christian we're getting so I'll make the best of it. 4th PPV in a row where Christian and Orton are fighting for the World Title. This better be the last one. The only way for this to be the last one between the two is if Christian wins.
Going by story, it looks like Christian has no chance in hell against Orton and that's why I like Christian's chances of winning. Also, towards the end of Smackdown this Friday, Christian said "Trust me Orton, I have the best thing going. I'll see you this Sunday."
I'm really intrigued by what Christian meant. Obviously since it's No Holds Barred, he's going to get outside help. The question is... from who? Edge? Jericho? The Miz? R-Truth? There are SO many guys not on the card, it can be anyone.
I think it's probably just Mark Henry though. Sheamus wins so he can feud with Christian. Then Mark Henry can feud with Randy Orton.
Then again, all of this can go down the toilet if Orton just wins yet again.
My Prediction: Christian retains the World Heavyweight Championship by pinfall.
Undisputed WWE Championship Match w/HHH as the Special Guest Referee: John Cena (WWE Champion) vs CM Punk (WWE Champion)
Going into this PPV, I didn't like Punk's chances of winning. CM Punk already won at Money in the Bank, so it only makes sense to have Cena win this one to make it 1-1.
But then HHH threw himself in the match and everyone knows something is going to happen. Who will HHH screw? Both Cena and Punk are against having HHH as the ref. HHH said he'll do what's best for the business. Punk has openly said, "You're going to screw me over aren't you?"
Since Cena will never turn heel, (especially not now because he'll face The Rock at Wrestlemania) all signs would point to HHH screwing Cena over. I can see HHH doing this and then saying that part of the reason he got CM Punk to come back is because it's in his contract clause or whatever. Now this also wouldn't really make sense because then what would be the point of having Cena as a champion too?
Maybe HHH screws both of these guys and then Alberto Del Rio cashes in his Money in the Bank and he'll win the WWE Title! Many things can happen but I just hope this match can live up to the hype. The crowd will definitely be back and forth, you can count on that happening.
My Prediction: CM Punk becomes the Undisputed WWE Champion by pinfall.
