WWE Summerslam PPV Predictions
Money in the Bank was an okay PPV. I believe I got every single prediction right only because well... it was obvious. Now it's time for Summerslam. I'll be at Staples Center once again with Dexter and Watti. They actually have 7 advertised matches this time around. I remember last year, we barely got 5 announced.
The match I'm
*REALLY* looking forward to is Dolph Ziggler vs Chris Jericho. The match I'm
*LEAST* looking forward to is Sheamus vs Alberto Del Rio.
What's really interesting though is that Randy Orton and Christian, the two guys who fought last year during Summerslam for the World Heavyweight Title... don't have a match on the PPV.
They might add in Brodus Clay vs Damien Sandow. I could have sworn they added this a few weeks ago, but they seemingly took it out. We'll have to wait and see then...
United States Championship Match: Santino Marella (US Champion) vs Antonio Cesaro w/Aksana
For once, this pre-show match has a minor storyline going into the PPV. Antonio Cesaro has two victories over Santino on Smackdown the last few weeks. Cesaro even taunted Santino this past Friday. I'm sure we can all agree that Santino Marella has made the US Title completely worthless. It's not his fault though... he's just booked as a comedian all the time and his matches are completely nonsense.
It would be amazing if they actually have Santino lose this match and allow Cesaro to become the US Champion, just for a change. Unfortunately, due to WWE logic... Cesaro having won 2 matches against Santino will only mean that he'll lose this one. All the pre-show matches so far, the faces have won just to get the crowd going. Another letdown is that Santino was out for commentary when they taped WWE Saturday Morning Slam (Airing Aug 25), and according to reports... he still had the US Title on him.
I just hope Antonio looks good in this match somehow. Maybe he can dominate the match only to get surprised by a Cobra or something.
My Prediction: Santino Marella retains the US Title by pinfall.

WWE Tag Team Championship Match: Kofi Kingston & R-Truth vs Prime Time Players (Darren Young & Titus O'Neil)
With AW gone from the WWE, I hope that doesn't mean PTP will fade into nothingness. Kofi and Truth have done nothing significant with the Tag Team Titles. I think it's time for some new blood, and hopefully we'll get new feuds for the Tag division. Honestly, having Kofi and Truth retain here would do nothing for the tag division. (With that said, that is very likely of WWE... lol crap)
This match is probably the weakest on the card, so hopefully it'll go first and they can get it over with. I'll be pulling for D Young to win some gold!!!
My Prediction: Prime Time Players win the WWE Tag Team Championship by pinfall.
Intercontinental Championship Match: The Miz (IC Champion) vs Rey Mysterio
Meh, there's no buildup for this match really. The Miz and Rey Mysterio fought each other a few times on Smackdown, just because. I don't see the need for Rey Mysterio to win the IC title again here. The Miz needs the title more ever since he got buried. But now The Miz is back, and they're calling him a "movie star" and all that good stuff. Plus, WWE had an exclusive youtube feature where The Miz asked everyone who they thought was going to win at Summerslam. Everyone said Rey Mysterio... which means The Miz will likely prove people wrong yet again.
My Prediction: The Miz retains the Intercontinental Championship by pinfall with the Skull Crushing Finale.
Chris Jericho vs Dolph Ziggler
This match has the potential to steal the show. For the record, I want Dolph Ziggler to win this... but I have too many heels winning, so I'll pick Chris Jericho here.
The storyline for this match is that Ziggler called out Jericho and said he doesn't have it anymore. Ziggler said that Jericho needs to step away from the spotlight and let people like him shine. I wonder if they were going with this storyline all the way back since the Royal Rumble because Jericho has not won a PPV match since his return. Plus, we all know he's going away again after Summerslam.
So what I'm thinking is that these two will be neck and neck... and Jericho wins with a surprise roll-up or something to prove that he's still "got it." However, Ziggler could be so pissed that he assaults Jericho and "injures" him. That way, Jericho can disappear and Ziggler can look as strong as ever. Who knows, maybe Ziggler could cash in his contract on Sheamus as well...
Either way, this should be fun. Ziggler probably needs the win, but at the same time, I think Jericho needs one too.
My Prediction: Chris Jericho wins by pinfall.
Kane vs Daniel Bryan
Daniel Bryan can make any match awesome. They made this match because they wanted Charlie Sheen to be involved in some capacity... but they haven't announced anything regarding his whereabouts. I think it's because they're afraid of advertising ahead of time, and then Charlie Sheen bailing at the last minute. (We all know he'll pull some crap like that.) With that said, this is why I think Kane is going to win. Whether it'll be an interference by Charlie Sheen or AJ, they're going to find some way to make Daniel Bryan lose because of his "anger problems".
My Prediction: Kane wins by pinfall.
World Heavyweight Championship Match: Sheamus (World Heavyweight Champion) vs Alberto Del Rio w/Ricardo Rodriguez
Storyline wise, this match is the least intriguing of them all. Sheamus has been a complete bore lately with his typical babyface victories. HHH is BFFs with Sheamus, so that's why Sheamus is having a long title reign. Alberto Del Rio has been the #1 contender how many times now? If you want to make him a threatening heel, you need to let him win. It's a shame because I just don't see Alberto Del Rio winning at Summerslam.
Quick story recap here... Alberto Del Rio is the #1 Contender. Sheamus steals his car and goes on a joyride. Booker T (Smackdown GM) actually punished Sheamus by rewarding Del Rio a World Heavyweight Title match on Smackdown. Del Rio however, hired fake police officers to beat down Sheamus. Booker T calls off the match at Summerslam because Sheamus is "injured". But now the match is back on because Sheamus wants to kick Del Rio's arse...
My Prediction: Sheamus retains the World Heavyweight Championship by pinfall.
Will Dolph Ziggler cash in his contract? Too soon I think...
HHH vs Brock Lesnar w/Paul Heyman
I'm excited for this because it'll be the first time I get to see Brock Lesnar LIVE!!! Brock needs this win badly, and not because I'm a huge fan of his. I think the match he had with Cena at Extreme Rules was really poor booking. Lesnar dominated Cena for 20+ minutes if you recall, only for Cena to come back to win by using TWO MOVES. SERIOUSLY! TWO MOVES.
HHH, not being a full-time wrestler doesn't really need to win here. I think it's okay to put Brock over now. If HHH wins, then bringing back Brock Lesnar is a complete mistake. Why bring him back to have him lose? This match is going to be a "fight". Hopefully we can see lots of tables, chairs, sledgehammers, chains, and whatever..
My Prediction: Brock Lesnar wins by pinfall.
WWE Championship Match: Big Show vs CM Punk (WWE Champion) vs John Cena
I still don't know why Big Show was added to this match. He's not a threat at all and I don't think anyone can see him winning this one. The story going into this one is that CM Punk is sick and tired of being overlooked. He's been the WWE Champ for like 9 months and haven't main evented in a while. Punk turned heel slowly by making it all about him... almost acting the exact same way when he was leading the Straight Edge Society.
Now keep in mind, Punk isn't 100% heel... yet. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw some kind of stable revival. Something that will help CM Punk retain the title so that the focus can continue to be on him. It makes no sense for him to chase the title now after the focus has just barely been on him. But of course, all that could be thrown out the window and Cena could win... just because he's John Cena. =\
I'm going to stick with my original choice, and that is CM Punk retaining.
My Prediction: CM Punk retains the WWE Championship by pinfall.
