WWE Night of Champions PPV Predictions
Summerslam was just above average. They used the 2nd biggest PPV of the year to build towards... you guessed it, Night of Champions. Not the smartest of decisions but whatever, it's typical WWE. Moving forward, the Night of Champions Card is pretty solid and has a ton of potential.
Battle Royal to determine the #1 Contender for the United States Championship Winner to face Antonio Cesaro for the United States Championship during the PPV.
Battle Royal for a Pre-Show is always a great idea. Why? Because Battle Royals are fun in general. Plus, it's the easiest way to get almost everyone on the PPV card.
It's pretty obvious that a face is going to win here since Antonio Cesaro is a heel. Brodus Clay and Tyson Kidd will likely be the "favorites" since they're the only ones that showed up on Smackdown and confronted Cesaro about the title. Zack Ryder teased that he is experienced in Battle Royals himself on his Youtube show. Unfortunately, WWE still doesn't know how to book Ryder correctly so I'm not going to expect him to win or anything.
Either way, regardless of who wins... Antonio Cesaro should retain the US Championship. Cesaro just won it at Summerslam and hasn't really had an opportunity to do anything with it. If Cesaro is to lose the title though, the only person I can think of him losing it to would be Ryback. In fact, that would be the perfect way to book Ryback. Let him tear through everyone in the Battle Royal and then have him win in dominating fashion in the match. If that doesn't generate any buzz for the US Title, nothing will.
My Prediction for the Battle Royal: Brodus Clay. My Prediction for the US Title Match: Antonio Cesaro retains the US Championship by pinfall.
WWE Tag Team Championship Match: Team Friendship (Daniel Bryan & Kane) w/Dr. Shelby vs Kofi Kingston & R-Truth (Tag Team Champions)
This one should be fun. Prime Time Players were suppose to win the Tag Team Titles in the near future and this was supposed to be their 3rd match. They were hyping up the 3rd times the charm thing for awhile. But guess what? Daniel Bryan and Kane are on FIRE. You gotta roll with what is working. Obviously, long term... having Daniel Bryan and Kane hold the Tag Titles isn't good. But for now, it's all in good fun.
I expect Team Friendship to win the Tag Team Titles tonight and we'll see where it goes from here. Rumor has it that Dr. Shelby will be their manager tonight. Hope it's permanent for as long as they're together. This is the perfect way to turn Daniel Bryan face again as he slowly recovers from his Anger Management issues.
My Prediction: Team Friendship wins the WWE Tag Team Championship by pinfall.
Fatal Four Way Intercontinental Championship Match: Rey Mysterio vs Sin Cara vs The Miz (IC Champion) vs Cody Rhodes
Another match that could be a lot of fun. We'll definitely see a lot of high flying moves in this one. This will be the first time that Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara will be in a match against each other. I don't know if they did away with Cody's obsession in trying to unmask Mysterio and Sin Cara. I don't see The Miz losing this one as he continues his slow climb back to the top.
My Prediction: The Miz retains the Intercontinental Championship by pinfall with the Skull Crushing Finale on Sin Cara.
Divas Championship Match: Layla (Divas Champion) vs Kaitlyn
This match is going to be ugly. Layla has done nothing as a Divas champion. They have built up this "feud" as being good friends and that's about it. Kaitlyn defeated Eve in a Battle Royal weeks ago to become the #1 Contender. Since then, she has been on a roll and even defeated Beth Phoenix.
Eve on the other hand isn't in this match but has the most "character" out of everyone. Right now Eve is playing the good girl and is happy for Kaitlyn. We're all just waiting for her go back to her hoeski way. Rumor has it that she'll be either added to this match or become the special guest referee. I'm going to jump the gun and say that Kaitlyn will be the new Divas Champion just because...
My Prediction: Kaitlyn wins the Divas Championship by pinfall.
Randy Orton vs Dolph Ziggler
This is like a repeat of Chris Jericho and Dolph Ziggler last month. Except this time, it's Randy Orton. Basically, Ziggler wants to show he's better than everyone, including Orton. He even said after he beat Orton, he'll never become World Heavyweight Champion again. In case you didn't know, Orton is leaving to film 12 Rounds Reloaded (or whatever its called). He already said he'll leave on Wednesday which means he'll work RAW and Smackdown this week.
Truthfully, Ziggler needs the win... BADLY. Only way would it be acceptable for him to lose to Orton is if he cashes in the briefcase tonight on Sheamus/Alberto Del Rio. Unfortunately, I just don't see Super Orton losing.
My Prediction: Randy Orton wins by pinfall.
World Heavyweight Championship Match: Sheamus (World Heavyweight Champion) vs Alberto Del Rio w/Ricardo Rodriguez & David Otunga If Sheamus uses the Brogue Kick, he is stripped of the World Title.
Once again it is Sheamus vs Alberto Del Rio. They have done their hardest to build Sheamus as a top babyface. I still think he's boring as a face. So storyline wise, everything is going in Alberto Del Rio's favor. He has to win... right?! If Sheamus uses the Brogue Kick, he is stripped of the title. Oh my goodness, how will Sheamus overcome the odds?! Sheamus recently got a new submission finisher (Texas Cloverleaf). So we'll see if he uses that here...
The only way I can see Alberto Del Rio winning is if he uses the Brogue Kick himself to win the match. Another scenario I don't mind happening is if Sheamus defeats Alberto Del Rio, then Ziggler tries to cash it in only for Sheamus to use the Brogue Kick "in the heat of the moment" to defend himself. But by doing so, he is stripped of the World Title. You know WWE, they protect these guys to hell and back... so having Sheamus lose to a stupid technicality is probably the only way so he doesn't look weak.
Wade Barrett also recently returned and said he was open for business. No one knows what that means but maybe Ziggler could hire him destroy Sheamus and he could cash in the contract. Then you can have a Wade Barrett and Sheamus feud, just like that. For now, I'll stick with my original choice... Sheamus, the typical babyface who has to overcome the odds.
My Prediction: Sheamus retains the World Heavyweight Championship by submission.
WWE Championship Match: John Cena vs CM Punk (WWE Champion) w/Paul Heyman
The PPV is in Boston... here is hoping that they're still smart enough to boo Cena. Also, Cena is going to wear PINK tonight. Okay then.
CM Punk is 100% heel now and is doing the whole "I demand respect" deal. He's also paired up with Paul Heyman now which is awesome. Because of that alone, I don't see CM Punk dropping the WWE Title, at least not at Night of Champions. CM Punk has been in the backseat for so many months now. So even though he's the WWE Champion, it doesn't mean much until he defeats John Cena one on one.
However, if Cena loses here... I'm not sure how he'll get a rematch at Hell in a Cell. So it's quite possible that Cena wins here only for CM Punk to win it back later. Because like it or not, we WILL see CM Punk vs The Rock at the Royal Rumble for the WWE Title. This match can go either way, but I'm sticking with CM Punk to pull some heel shenanigans. Perhaps someone else could interfere and join CM Punk and Paul Heyman. Maybe it's The Big Show.
My Prediction: CM Punk retains the WWE Championship by pinfall.
