not really, block/parry/kill is the gist of the fighting mechanic. You can try different combo's to unlock trophies but basically the fighting is easy. It's more fun to go for stealth kills. They added different kill animations and types as the series went on but it isn't hard to kill a dozen enemies w/o taking a hit.
If you use the crossbow or pistol it makes things even easier.
I feel the free-running was also well done compared to other games out there. If Infamous had as good a free-running feel as AC did I would recommend that game over AC. That said, I like the combat in Infamous more. I never played the second one though.
