Thread: Assassin's Creed?

One series Ive been wanting to dive into for quite some time is the Assassin's Creed series. Its always been intriguing to me since I saw the commercials way back yonder. At that time, I do believe it was a PS exclusive. Now, I've noticed recently its been available on all platforms for some time. I just saw AC II and AC Brotherhood(?) in the cheapy bin at one of my local retailers and thought about grabbing one or both.

Question is, which game would be the best game for someone like me to just jump into the storyline? Should I try to find the original on 360 and go from there or are one of the games listed above a good start?

get the first one... seriously, start from the beginning.

i've done I,II, and Brotherhood. Darby loaned me III, but he also loaned me Red Dead Redemption, so ima work on that one until i can pick up AC Revelations and go through it before i hit III.

you should be able to find the first 3 cheap... and Revelations for about 20 bucks.

Cool, thanks dude. That's the type of advice i was looking for. I didnt see the original in the cheapy bin so I'll have to hunt it down somewhere else.The others were under $20. I'll probably head to GS and grab it either new or used if they have it.

Red Dead is great. I finished it up about 2 years ago and bought the Zombie extension. I got about 6 hours into that, promptly got side tracked and haven't picked it up since.

The story got too crazy in Revelations so I stopped playing it. AC 2 is really good though.

Agreed. Start at the beginning. It's a continuous story and each title picks up where the previous left off.

Revelations did kind of stray. Feels a bit like filler to drag the franchise out. I still haven't finished it. When III goes to the bargain bin, I'll finish up Revelations and pick it up.

Nope. It has been available for Xbox 360 as long as it' been for PS3. Start from Assassin's Creed I though.

You can skip the first one pretty much as they were trying a new IP out and it shows. AC2, AC: Brotherhood & AC: Revelations tell Ezio's story which is decent and while they didn't innovate too much it's a fun series. I have to still get AC: Revelations as it's a series that I don't mind waiting for it to drop into the cheap bin or GotY version. Altair was the protagonist in the first game and he returns for a little in AC: Revelations but that's still not enough for me to recommend getting the first game.

I've heard too many up and down reviews of AC3 to really be excited about as it seems the writing is a bit darker, the main character is grumpy and morose so the fun seems to have exited and the gameplay mechanics more of the same & even worse if you believe some reviews vs. anything really innovating the series. They did add naval battles which most everyone did like though.
I'll wait for it to get a GotY release.

The best part of the whole series, at least for me is just running around the cool cities and getting Assassin-y on fools. haha.

i think the first one is important because you are introduced to the protagonist... and with the way the II starts, it helps, because you can be all WTF?

in III, you play two different assassins, no?

the first AC introduces you to Desmond, the modern day protagonist that is the players gateway into the "memories" of the Assassin's you play but IMO he is just the tool to get you to Altair, Ezio and Conner. So yes, getting the first game would be important to the overall mythos the AC series has set-up I still feel you don't need to get the first one as it is more simplistic in game play whereas AC2 trilogy tweaked the mechanics to what everyone liked about it. The Assassin you play in the AC2 trilogy, Ezio Auditore is fun and the setting and story in the renaissance the best example of the series.
