I was finally able to unlock IR Flares, which helps a TON, after that it gets easier to shoot down stuff cause you have a defense. If you don't have flares yet, it's about getting lucky to get those 300 points. Always try to shoot ahead of the jets or heli's your aiming at, if i was too far i did the mistake of shooting at them and never got em, also spotting your enemies (get them in your crosshairs and press select), it gets you at least 10 points and it's easier to shoot people/vehicles.

I just got the IR flares today. The biggest tip I have is, when you have a target, hold down the S key. When you slow down it really helps with aim and gives you a lot more time.

Well, I guess I'm screwed cuz my Xbox controller doesn't have a "Select" button to press.
