    Default Board Games!

In light of the Card Game thread, I feel that there ought to be one dedicated to board games.

There are some great new games out there other than the traditional "Monopoly," "Life," or "Clue."

One of my recent favorites is:

    TICKET TO RIDE

What's so fun about building train tracks?! EVERYTHING! You get to make one move per turn, whether to draw more cards or build train tracks, and you better plan strategically! Make the longest continuous railroad or sabotage someone else's bid!

I've played both the European and American version. While the American version is great for starters to learn, once I've played the European one, I just can't go back!

    There's also:

    PANDEMIC

Pandemic (board game) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

What makes this board game different is that everyone playing is actually working together against the board. You're a group of humanitarians attempting to prevent outbreaks of diseases, finding cures, and ultimately, save the human kind.

Me and some friends are addicted to strategy board games and our gaming nights are ultra competative. Our current favorite is DOMINION as detailed in the card games thread. Here are some other great ones:

    PUERTO RICO

Farm the land and build your city to create the most efficient victory point machine. Each turn every player chooses a new role for himself and every decision made has consequences for all players. You'll need careful planning and balance to make sure that what you do doesn't end up biting you in the ass. I highly recommend it, almost nothing is left to chance in this pure strategy game.

    POWER GRID

Every player builds his own power grid. Players bid against each other to buy available power plants. Those power plants need resources (coal, oil, garbage, uranium), the price of those resources are built on an fun and easy supply-and-demand mechanic. You'll also need to build connections between cities to feed your power grid. It's a lot of fun, monopoly meets ticket to ride.

    ROBORALLY

It's like a game of that tv show, robot wars. You control your own laser-equipped robot. Capture all flags to become the winner, sounds easy? It's not. At the start of your turn you program your robot several moves ahead but not only do you need to take other robots into consideration, the track itself is filled with conveyor belts, pushers and traps, making even the most planned out route a potential plunge into a deep pit. Fun for the whole family and even the most casual of gamers as robots collide, blow each other up and cause general mayhem all over the game board.

Lice, I'm a huge Ticket to Ride fan also. Actually love just about anything by Days of Wonder, also owning Mystery of the Abbey and Colisseum, and will be picking up Shadows Over Camelot in the near future.

Pandemic is also a very enjoyable game.

Also on the list of to buys, Arkham Horror.

The only board games I have are a decent wood chess set, Monopoly:Star Wars: Episode 1 and an old Trivial Pursuit.
Bachelor that doesn't like to entertain much probably plays into it.

I find that it is really difficult to get people interested in playing board games. Video games are so accessible, and so easy to start up and stop when needed, it is just hard to get friends to want to sit down for an hour, learn the rules, and play, no matter how good the board game is. Truly unfortunate, considering the number of stellar games out right now. Maybe my friends just suck though.

Me and my friends love to play board games after dinner and a few glasses of wine! But unfortunately due to the wine I can't remember the names of them.....

I've watched people play "Dominion" but haven't actually tried playing it myself. Looks quite fun though.

SETTLERS OF CATAN is another fun one:

This one is on the role-playing side, and a bit creepy. The board changes each game as the stories and characters develop.
