I'm stoked on this release! The first game was good and surprised a lot of people I think. I'm sure people thought it was just going to be another FPS but there was so much more to it than running around and killing. I hope this new game brings more to the table though than the last one. Hopefully in the 40-60 hour range.
Try as I might, I can't get into Western RPGs. Love JRPGs and adventure games, but shooters just never work for me. I'm sure Fallout, Mass Effect, Borderlands are great, but they just aren't my cup of tea.
JRPG's were awesome in the 90's! Not the case anymore. I used to love them, but now not so much. They are stuck in the past, and have not advanced at all. That's how I fell about JRPG's, but I have not played one for a long time now
I fell in love with Borderlands when it first came out because this isn't your typical JRPG type game. Fallout was entertaining but it was a tad bit slow but Borderlands was a shoot em up first and the missions can wait. Also 4 players playing at the same time is always a blast. If Rage allowed multiplayer it would have been much more fun.
If you want to get a head start on planning your characters, they have skill trees setup here:
Borderlands 2
Just select the character you want to check out then hit the skill tree button!
I think the best part for me in the new game is that when you create a character you start earning ranks and bonuses that can be applied to future characters. So if you start the dual-wield character, then decide he's not the right pick for you, you can create another character and recieve bonuses just from playing your original character. There's even an option to turn that off if you like.
It only makes sense to me though that if you have already put time in on one character, you shouldn't have to start over from scratch if you decide that character isn't right for you. Great idea!
Zero!!!!!
A fair criticism... many JRPGs are very formulaic. I still enjoy them for their gameplay and storylines though, for the most part.
That said, if you "haven't played one for a long time", you've missed out on a lot of great games. The PS2 had some masterpieces on it, FFXIII (though linear) had an outstanding storyline and fun battle system, and Valkyria Chronicles is one of the best games on the PS3. Criminally underrated and single-handedly got me back into gaming after a long hiatus.
In the end though, it comes down to gameplay. Not sure why I don't enjoy shooters at all. I've tried so many times.
Valkyria Chronicles I have but I still have not got around to playing it yet :(
I plan to in the near future tho! Oh, and one of my favorite all time RPG's....is Skies of Arcadia :) Man that was a great game on the Dreamcast haha. Sega had soo many great IP's but the company can't focus, and release good content anymore. Sad really
finally picked up this game, and speaking of sega, borderlands reminds me of a faster paced PSO
