Don't buy used games anymore. Starting with EA Sports.

This is a money grab by EA pure and simple. It's smart business. If they can get more cash from the customer, more power to them. There are guys that would buy the latest version of Madden even if EA placed a big dog turd in there instead of a DVD. If they customer buys into it, they'll keep doing this.

I support a game when I can. I bought DJ Hero even though I could have gotten it from my friend who developed it. It was a fun game and the numbers sucked. They could use my business. I know the developers need to pay the rent. I get it. I paid for my disk. How I got it is my business. What's next ? I can't play a DVD without an unlock code from the studios ?

They do sell used games for $54.99. It's ridiculous.

I recently went to Gamestop this past Saturday because I was bored and was looking to see if they had MLB 2K10 used. They did not so I came home empty handed. But not before checking out the prices for other games I have (just to see the "value").

Final Fantasy XIII (Came out on March 9, 2010) was indeed $54.99 USED. I don't understand why anyone would buy it used for that price if all it takes is 5 bucks more for a new copy.

Keeping up with my research.. FFXIII cost about 41.74 used on Amazon.com and 52.99 for a new copy.

That's not all. I was one of the suckers that purchased Street Fighter IV (February 17, 2009) when it came out for 60 bucks. Capcom slaps everyone in the face by releasing Super Street Fighter IV (April 27, 2010) for 40 bucks.

If you don't know already, SSFIV features more characters on top of everyone included in SFIV but with a better battle engine overall. Basically, SFIV is useless now that SSFIV is out.

Anyway, I asked about the trade-in value for Street Fighter IV. They laughed and said "4 bucks at the most." I looked at the store shelves, they're selling that for 20 bucks used/30 bucks new. So that means they're still making a 16 dollar profit on used game sale there.

The trade-in value for Super Street Fighter IV was only 20 bucks and they were selling the used one for 35 bucks.

I agree here completely. Don't forget that on top of the 1 Billion in sales, they made even more with the stupid Downloadable Content. Maps they intentionally did not include in the first place because they know they can make extra cash on top of the 60 dollars it already cost for the game.

So back on topic with EA Sports (and soon other companies) charging a fee just to play online for people who bought used games... If they make enough money, you can damn well bet that the $10 fee will go up.

Is it a smart decision for EA Sports? We'll have to wait and see. A lot of people are upset about this and could possibly not buy an EA Sport game because of this. Obviously, the hardcore fans like the Madden fans will buy it new regardless. And fans like us will buy NHL11 because we know 2K11 is terrible. But for the people who want a sport game and want it used, they might ignore the EA Sports product and just go with 2KSports or something else completely.

Stopped buying their sports titles a while back, they shut down the servers on some of the older classic titles I had paid full price for.

That was the final straw.

So this also means that you will no longer be able to let a friend borrow your EA game to play online either, right? Well that sucks! This is a lot worse than I thought.

I am fine with this move. They did the same for the living roster stuff on NBA Live last year, but I think that was $20.

I don't understand the point of buying used in most cases. I've purchased used games from Gamestop during buy 2 get 1 free or 50% off sales, but it's still hard to find games with no scratches and with the original cases. I won't accept any less.

Gamestop charges $55 for sued games, as others have said. You can get those same games, new, at Amazon for less in most cases. Even if you couldn't, why not pay $5 more for new?

The real problem is those microtransactions, and they won't stop because they make too much money. Stuff that affects only single player is fine, but when you can use real money to buy upgrades in NHL 10... **** that.

This is what really pisses me off. I used to be big into Halo, and when Halo 3 was released, it was supposed to have a few extra maps. They didn't include them because they couldn't make the deadline. So they just charged us for them a few months down the road.

How about renting games? Is one going to have to pay an online fee to play them? ;)

From what's been said, it sure sounds like it.
1 "unlock" code per game means renting game and paying to use online.

You can just get the 7 day free trial of the online if you rent it.
