Electronic and Game Expo
I am not a gamer, but I thought I'd let you all know that
the "E for all Expo" starts tonight and goes through Sunday.

Pretty cool... expensive though.
Is this the same as E3? Or is it completely different?

You are right, it is expensive. I didn't even look at admission
costs. E3 was never open to the public or to under 18, but I
was always able to obtain passes through our clients.
Since E3 is no more, I will assume "E for All Expo"
is going to be "E3-ish" plus "all electronic gadgets" type of
show. So I think it maybe bigger than an E3 show.

sounds sorta weak. E for all? not having "T" or "M" games would suck big ones... so any way any fun?
just re-read my post missed a word...

I went for a couple of days.
E for All was meant to be a play on E3, but for everyone. Not really "E" rated games. Sony didn't show up, and Microsoft pulled out a couple of weeks beforehand.
Nintendo was there in full force, showing Super Smash Bros, Super Mario Galaxy, Guitar Hero 3, and a new Gun peripheral for first person shooters, among others. They also gave away a different T-shirt each of the 4 days.
THQ (where I work) was there with a big WWE presence. Also showed Frontlines, Destroy All Humans, Company of Heroes, Supreme Commander, Conan, De Blob, Juiced 2, MX vs ATV, Stuntman, and some other kids' titles.
EA was there with a Rock Band stage on both sides of the hall. They were also showing a ton of games in their booth.
Konami and Namco were also there. Target - yes, the retailer - had a large area devoted to Guitar Hero 3. They also had a Guitar Hero tournament on a stage and gave away copies of Guitar Hero 3 to the winners. Those guys were insane! Activision didn't participate at the show, but they didn't have to - Guitar Hero 3 was ALL OVER THE PLACE. It was really the "Wii and Guitar Hero for all" show.
This should not be compared to E3. E3 was a Trade Only show, with Sales, PR, Product Development, and Marketing all doing lots of business during the week. At E3, companies spent millions of dollars on their booths to one-up their competition.
E for All was designed as a Consumer show, to let consumers make decisions about the games to buy for the holidays. We probably spent $100k on the booth instead of the millions spent at previous E3's.
E3 filled up the entire Convention Center. E for All used less than 1/2 the space of the SOUTH HALL only. During set up, I thought it was really weak. But during the show on Thursday and Friday, I thought it was OK. The consumers seemed to be having a good time and Nintendo did a great job of being the main presence and keeping people's attention.
Not a bad show for the first time ever. It'll be interesting to see if it happens again next year, and how many videogame publishers actually show up (i.e. will it be larger or smaller). Definitely not a "poor man's E3". I'd call it more of a poor man's Comic Con.

Thanks Drum4Pigs on the details of the event!
The winners of the Guitar Hero tourney receives Guitar Hero 3? What for? If they're so good, they probably already have the games. I guess it's technically prize money for them to sell. But who knows!
