My first NHL game was NHL 96. It's the only reason I love hockey to this day!!!!! Man, I loved that game. Oddly enough, I remember not picking the LA Kings... but the St. Louis Blues.

I am a fan of hockey and the Kings thanks to NHLPA 93. We got that game as a christmas gift when it was new, but neither me nor my brother were hockey fans.
Wayne Gretzky was the only player he knew of, so we always played as Los Angeles. He wanted to control TGO, so I was left with either Robitaille or Tomas Sandstrom, so I stuck with Luc whenever we played.
The fights in '93 are still better than the fighting engines in games today. Nothing like checking the other team in a scrum while your brother knocks some dude out with a haymaker.
Did anyone else notice how easy it was to injure Buffalo's Dave Andreychuk? One good hit and he'd be bleeding from his head. I also loved the hate that Shawn Chambers got from the developers. IIRC, he was rated a 1/100. One fricken' point.

NHL 95 played a huge factor in my love for the sport. That game helped me understand the rules, team protocol and various teams, players and positions.
I truly hope NHL 08 can transcend the curiosity of just the NHL fans and make its way into the hands of young sports fans. As far as I'm concerned, video games are the best way to market the sport to young fans.
NHL 93 on the genesis was the ****, though I got my start with Nintendo's Ice Hockey and Blades of Steel. GREAT games for their time...

Really, all the same moves worked up until 06 came out. I used to love having people come over to my place and talk trash about how they would school me only to lose by 20-30 goals.
My old roommate eventually implemented a rule that I was not allowed to use the Kings, nor was I allowed to use the same team 2 times in a row (so I wouldn't get used to the players). Eventually I was banned from using any NHL team and had to use the european teams when they became available.
But my favourite memory was that warm July night when at 1am there was a knock on the door which turned out to be the cops. Apparently people in the apartment next door thought my roommate was killing me because of all the yelling and swearing he was doing. He eventually broke his controller that night in frustration.
God I love those games!
WAAAAYYYYY too many nights in school, nights on the road and girlfriends were lost to these games.
but at least it wasn't D&D
"Breakfast, shmreakfast. Look at the score, for Christ's sake. It's only the second period and I'm up 12 to 2. Breakfasts come and go, but Hartford, "the Whale," they only beat Vancouver once, maybe twice in a lifetime.
