Went to Gamestop yesterday and put $10 down for the Collector's Edition for FFXIII-2.
Absolutely cannot wait! Famitsu gave FFXIII a 39/40 and then they gave FFXIII-2 a perfect 40/40.

Now I feel like I have to pick up a used copy of FFXIII. Which sucks, because I traded it in towards another game.
Damn you, Melf!!
Anyone play the demo yet? Thoughts?
For me, it seems okay. It is definitely different. I'm getting the feeling that in FFXIII-2, we're only going to use Noel and Serah the whole game. That part seems like a downer. But then when you have monsters filling in the 3rd slot of your party, things are going to be super different.
Still excited for the game because I think the changes are for the better.

Yeah, the main consensus across most reviews seems to be that the story line is weaker but the game play is much more fun. I loved the first one (obviously) but welcome the new look and feel! GF pre-ordered for me for my Bday, so I'm ready to pick it up Tuesday!
I'm also excited by early reports that getting the platinum in this game is more of a 50-60 hour affair and focused on completing everything instead of mindless grinding like the original was. Even at the leisurely-ass pace I'll likely play at, happy it'll take 70-80 hrs instead of 110 this time. Farming Long Gui for God knows how many hours, praying for rare drops... that was a true test of perfectionist nerdiness!![]()
I started my 2nd play-through too late. Still in Chapter 11 and FFXIII-2 is out today. Oh wellI'm all caught up again with the story anyway since it refreshed my memory for the most part.
If you guys still haven't seen it yet, the reviews are out. The scores are a bit lower for FFXIII-2.

USCKingsFan and I have discussed this. We could care less what the scores say. Final Fantasy always delivers when it comes to the story. I think people were just expecting too much out of a traditional JRPG. Can't wait to pick up this game after work.Only 5-6 more hours...

Look forward to finding out of gripes on the story are legitimate or just everybody wanting to be like the other cool kids (ala complaining about linearity). Either way, a few mins in, same battle structure + graphics, I'm sure it'll be fun to play!
6-or-so hours in, I like it. Battle system and early story arc do make it feel like you are playing another installment of FFXIII and not some brand new game with the FF logo smacked on to it. I can see where complaints of the story being convoluted come from, but aren't ALL time-travel based games convoluted to some degree? I'll wait until the end of the game to see how well or poorly everything gets wrapped up, but it hasn't hindered from my experience thus far and I do feel compelled to keep pressing on to learn more, so that's a plus.
Navigating to different areas reminds me of Kingdom Hearts, which was a lot of fun... minus the Disney element, of course. Monster catching and building paradigms around different monsters is fun... not sure if TooCool and I are just talking to ourselves in this thread, but so far so good for me!
I'm reading it!

6 hours? Nice. I like the game a lot so far too. I played about 4 hours yesterday, but on my save file, it says I have about 3 hours played. That's because the system froze when I was trying to activate the Crystarium menu.Originally Posted by USCKingsFan31

The "live trigger" is interesting and it's fun being able to pick your answers to see different reactions from the characters. I agree with you about time travel being convoluted... and this will sound weird but I like it that way! It's not just time travel based games, but TV shows too. It makes you think more and it makes you want to piece everything together as you move forward.
Going into this game, I was mostly skeptical about the monster capturing mode because I was hoping to actually have a party/team. But since the whole game is basically Noel and Serah with the monsters filling your 3rd slot... it surprisingly works. I struggled with the Atlas boss though. The target time was 3 minutes and this boss took me 13 minutes.Originally Posted by USCKingsFan31
Did you level your monsters? I was wondering if I should keep their level around the same as Serah and Noel. I had them all at level 1 (didn't want to use the items yet) and it was tougher than I thought.
Love the quicker paradigm shifts in this game and I love how the game challenges you to switch accordingly or else you're screwed. Why the hell is there an easy mode for a JRPG? I stuck with the normal mode. Not sure if I'll find any time to play today since there's a Kings game tonight... the weekend cannot come soon enough!
