Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition - while the 3 games included would keep him involved for a couple of weeks, the user created modules could keep him involved for a couple of months. I'm now in the final stages playing a user created mod that has an estimated play time of 150 hours (yes, that's 15 days at 10 hours per day). He could then go online and play. (I can't recommend Neverwinter Nights 2 yet because the user created modules aren't that great.)

Halflife 2 Orange Box. After playing the main game and 2 episodes, he then could go online and play Team Fortress Classic 2.

Good free online play is where you'd get the best bang for your buck.

Have one and right now its being run by shadowbane.

Command and Conquors are purchased upon release. The longest one for him was Yuri's Revenge at 5 days. That includes time as allied, soviet, and Yuri. He hated Renegade. I was lucky he didnt throw the CD at me.

Let me throw in a great word for the Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War franchise. Probably my favorite RTS to hit the market in the last 10 years. Fast paced, customizable squads and seven unique factions.

I can't vote since I don't have any of those games.

I heard the same stuff about Assassins Creed. This a rental, or buy it used after someone else is bored with it.

I have Bioshock & COD 4 on my xmas list. I would vote on those 2 for you.

I took the advice to buy COD4 and rent Assassin's Creed and it was the best advice. I'm about 2 hours into AC and it's driving me up the proverbial ****ing wall. The controls are horrible. I've literally been in what can be best described as an overextended training course the whole time.

The biggest surprise is how crappy the controls are. I figured since it was developed by Ubisoft Montreal that they would nail the stealth part of the game. Afterall these are the same guys that did Splinter Cell. However, it's just a giant mess.

I jumped into a training session to work on my sword play. Well, I got stuck in it. It doesn't give me an option to get out of it. WTF? I also hate it when I'm given a mission and when I get to where I need to go it gives me the first instruction and then takes it sweet time to give me the second instruction. Total pain in the ass.

I'm going to stick with it though. I got it on GameFly so I'll give it a week. If it doesn't give me a reason to continue playing I'll be quick to send it back.

Call of Duty 4 took two days. Thanks for the heads up on the uberchallenge.

Yeah, the campaign is short, but it's all about the online play.
