Looks like Rockstar is apologizing to us for all the technical issues to the tune of $500,000:
Grand Theft Auto Online: Half a Million GTA$ Stimulus Package this Month | Rockstar Games
Money in the Bank
Given some of the recent technical issues during these first days of GTA Online, and now that things are starting to look much smoother (touch wood!), we are planning to provide a special stimulus package for all who have played or will play Grand Theft Auto Online this month. We will be dropping a cool half a million GTA$ in the GTA Online bank accounts of all players this month, starting as early as next week.
‘Don’t Spend It All in One Place!’
In order to keep the current worldwide in-game economy balanced, we will be providing this GTA$ to players via two deposits of $250,000. We will announce specific dates as soon as possible, but are currently hoping to be able to make the first deposit by the end of next week (after we’ve confirmed that issues causing game progress loss have been fixed) with the second installment to happen by the end of the month. For players who experienced cloud server errors, connection issues, and lost game progress and characters in these first days of GTA Online, we hope this GTA$ helps to facilitate a fresh start or makes your continued life in Los Santos and Blaine County extra sweet.
Below are a few more details on how it will work. Stay tuned for tips on how to make the most of GTA$ cash, info on ways and places to earn more cash fast, as well as updates on all the new GTA Online content additions we’re working on for this fall and beyond.
You must play or have played Grand Theft Auto Online at any time during the month of October 2013 in order to qualify for the GTA$500,000 deposit in your in-game bank account.
Players will first have to install a forthcoming GTAV title update which we expect to happen next week. That title update (1.04) is expected to fix the remaining instances of issues that have caused vehicle purchase loss and will also enable the functionality through which we’ll be providing this GTA$ stimulus cash to players.
We will announce at the Rockstar Newswire when each deposit is made.
Each of the two GTA$250,000 deposits will be made by Rockstar and should automatically appear in the in-game GTA Online bank accounts of eligible players. Beyond downloading the forthcoming title update mentioned above, there should not be any additional special action required by eligible players to redeem.
I'm on PS3, but haven't played online yet.

Next to the state penitentary you can start a race called "Criminal Record". Set it to one lap and super cars, and each race will take about 30 seconds to complete. With no crew bonuses, in a head to head race, 1st is like $3100 / 800 rp, 2nd is like $1400 / 400 rp. If you keep re-starting, including loading time, should take about two minutes per race. So if you alternate that's about $2250 and 600 rp per race, or $67000 and 18000 rp per hour. Conservatively. Sounds like a decent haul!
Tried the online for the first time yesterday. It would have been nice to be able to adjust the features of my character's appearance instead of that ridiculous thing with the grandparents. Everyone looks like they have skin problems. If I could just import my characters I made in Rock Band 3, that would be nice.
Anyways, I planned on playing for a few hours and getting dinner. I did not have dinner that night.
Right at the beginning when I was playing around, some idiot led the cops chasing him into the alley where I was hiding out and I got stuck because the game made me take a phone call with a video scene I could not stop, so when that ended I was surrounded. I sarcastically thanked him and he said the kind of thing you expect from some socially handicapped online video game player. When I came back to life, I hopped back in my car and raced back where I was. Dude was running down the sidewalk and I made a perfect turn and sent him airborne at full speed, then just kept on going.
I do wish there was more to do in the playing around map besides rob stores and look for the cars the chop shop wants. If I run into another player, 90% of the time he is going to try to kill me, so I can't really go up to them unless I am planning to kill them.
I think I am going to concentrate on getting to level 100 for all the trophies that come with that and also playing all the different races and challenges at least once for that trophy. I can see where I am with the other online trophies after that.
Once I get the bonus $500,000 I will get a better car and a residence. Shorter term - building up my stats (where do I use stealth?) and robbing all the stores. I think I sent an invite to someone from here.
Your stealth goes up from just crouching during missions.
Still haven't found anyone to do the above trick with. Or the max out strength trick. Sucks having no online gamer friends with a PS3!
Crouching anytime does it, actually.
