I finished the toxic waste collection in the regular game this morning. What a pain in the ass - the submarine is probably the slowest vehicle in the game. Advice to anyone who hasn't done it - if you stop to explore the shipwrecks, keep an eye on the submarine - if the currents take it too far away while you are diving, it disappears and you have to get a new one and drive it all the way back. Don't dive for the shipwrecks until you get the submarine because when you leave the submarine, you come out with diving gear on, so you don't have to worry about drowning and swimming with it on improves your lung capacity anyway. I bought the dock with Michael and did half the collecting with Franklin - either Michael got the money from that or else you get no money, so I advise you to just use whoever you buy it with. Take the submarine clockwise around San Andreas and when you get to where you are in the port area and the next barrel is past the airport, take a break and do a second run later when you go counter-clockwise from the dock to the Santa Monica pier.
Earlier I lost a good amount of money on the stock market. A random encounter guy had me drive him to the airport and told me to buy Tinkle stock, which is on the BAWSAQ, the market that everyone playing the game shares and thus changes according to real world time and not game time. The stock was up about 25% after I replayed a few missions to get gold stars, but I wanted more and was going to check after my hockey game. I forgot to check and didn't play for a few days, and by the time I logged back on, the stock was in the toilet, down 80%. And I didn't have a save file from before I bought it. I kept it and a week later it finally started going up and eventually sold it at just a 20% loss. But I had a new strategy - I had been keeping track of stock prices and found the stocks that had the biggest percentage differences between the highs and lows. I picked three stocks with big differences that were at lows and put 30% of everyone's money into each one. Today two of those three stocks doubled and one kept dropping (down 50%), so I made 30% of my money. To be safe, I had a second save file before investing. I did this again when I was done playing today, with SHK, UMA, and WIZ. Two of them are up a bit already and one is down a bit.
Most of the BAWSAQ stocks seem to be in a constant slight decline, or at least over the last week. Going by prices I have actually witnessed and not the ones the website says are the high and low values, the big movers are BDG, HAL, SHK, TNK, UMA, WIW, WIZ (83% or more between observed low and high), and good movers are AMU, EYE, FAC, FRT, VAP, WAP (30% - 40%).
BAWSAQ: I got a 500% return on the 30% I put it in WIZ on one of my saves, which meant everyone got 2.5 the money they had before I invested (the other two stocks cancelled each other out) and after just four days of this I have enough money (Michael $25M, other guys $2M) that I won't bother investing until the assassination missions. I also did the hotel one that you have to do in the middle of the game and got the 80% on Betta (factored into the amounts mentioned above) and currently have my money in Bilkington awaiting its recovery. If only the real stock market were so easy.
Knife Flights: Suck. Really, really suck. I have five left and am using a stolen Lazer with the wheels down to slow it. This one next to a parking garage is killing me over and over. I got the one through the two buildings that curve on the inside at least.
Online car bombs: So expensive, but so hilarious. When the green car symbol shows up, I race there and snag the car. If the room only has a few other players, I get paid from Simeon. If it is crowded, I put a car bomb in the car and park it by the mod shop next to the Beverly Center where everyone loves to hang out, then wait. I want to eventually get every platinum medal, so this one will be an expensive crawl. Stickies really should count. I am tempted to make my own death car by buying a cheap but snazzy looking car and adding some mods to make it look snazzier, then leaving that out for people to steal (cheap since I would have to pay the insurance). Does anyone know a great car that is cheap? Or maybe I should just use the Bifta since it is free and everyone loves that.
Did the preliminaries for the blitz heist. Garbage truck, tow truck, jumpsuits, hockey masks... this seems very. very familiar... I will be on the lookout for Waynegro.
Finally got to level 100 on the online game, so I am only left with trophies for the regular game. Hitting it by finishing the chemical extraction mission on my own after the other players got killed, shooting down a helicopter with a machine gun, made it more special. Rocket launchers are fun.
Well the server maintenance took away so my modded money. All 2 billion of it. luckily I filled my garage with adders to resell.
I haven't gone back online yet, but according to the website, the hacked money someone gave me a few weeks ago is gone. I banked my real money each time I figured I made $10,000 and left the hacked money on hand. The website says I now have $1,600,000, which is about what I think I had banked, so it seems they were accurate in removing the hacked money.
I'm more fine with it - now people can't sticky my car for a cheap kill without having to actually worry about the money it costs them, and they can't buy help right and left. I enjoy watching people waste mercenaries as I fly a helicopter to the under-construction skyscraper and see the red dots appear and disappear on the map when I get there. Now if they would just make tanks cost real money to call out and lower their rate of fire.
I have six vehicles (Entity, Felon GT, Bati, Ruiner, Carbizzonair, Merryweather Mesa) that have all the mods that are actually useful (minus some armor upgrades), so it is probably time to get a top apartment with a ten car garage. Can anyone recommend one that is not the building west of the under-construction skyscraper or the building in NW LS at the foot of the hills? Everyone seems to have apartments at one of those two spots.
I'm on the fence about dropping the $1,250,000 for the rights to call a Buzzard. Buzzards are very handy here and there, but that is plenty of money and if I really need a ride, I can call a Merryweather chopper and kill the pilot. It was less of an issue when there was a Buzzard at every helipad. Otherwise I need to figure out the four top cars in categories I am not yet representing (or very useful cars) and add them to my collection. I probably can steal them, but the upgrades cost money.
In the regular game I am setting up for the "heist" that is a raid on the FIB or CIA building. I got my trophy for 70 gold stars and out of nowhere finally got the taxi mission phone call after ages without it, so it is just story trophies, UFO and letter collection, and 100% for the platinum. I loved the part where you had to shoot enemies while hanging upside down on the meathook, but they really should have flipped the view for it.
