Halo: Reach- beta out now
No topic? I'm surprised.
The Halo: Reach multiplayer beta is now available for download and will be playable for nearly 3 weeks. Only a few modes and maps are included, however.
I got an early invite code to the beta on Thursday. I had a busy weekend and didn't get to play as much as I wanted to (15 games total) but I really, really like it. I hadn't played Halo in a long time, so I sucked, but it was fun. It will be good to have friends who can join me now.
For those who are unaware, unless you can find someone with a spare code lying around, you must have a copy of Halo 3: ODST to access the beta.

I had a friend I added a long time ago from Halo 3 who suddenly asked me if I wanted a spare code for this beta. I declined since I didn't have ODST. =x

Painful download time for 1.2 GB. Painful loading. Broken Matchmaking. Successful Day 1 nuking Bungie's server farm. LOL.

That sucks... don't need ODST if you have a code.

It took me 45 minutes to download it on Thursday night. I'd imagine that with so many getting it today, the download time will be longer.

I never got into multiplayer on Halo 3. I loved the original, liked Halo 2, but Halo 3 was meh. I keep hearing that multiplayer was/is great though.
I'm sucked into WoW right now, so we'll see.

I don't even remember the controls for Halo so I'll probably get pwnd by an 7 year old but that's nothing new.

Working much better this morning. Maybe because there were only 80K online? Yesterday there were almost 200K.
Looks good, but not running at 1080p from what I could see. Probably 720p? Limited choices of maps from what we've played and they're all quite small compared to usual. Haven't seen any vehicles at all.
The special abilities are OK but you can't use them when you have a flag. I hope they level-up as you do. The sprinting is useless at the first level. The invisibility doesn't seem to be as effective as it should be due to the shimmer. The jet-pack is fun, but you have to hold down LB a lot and you have a small tank/gauge. The shield class would be good for closed hallways where your team is behind you when you shield.
Whoever mapped the beatdown button to RB by default should be fired. B = Beatdown.

Don't have ODST, don't have a code... didn't download.
But I did pop Halo 3 in for a bit yesterday. After having played MW2, the controls feel squishy and cartoonish. I don't know how else to describe it.
