It will also be released on all platforms at the same time!

Mass Effect 2 for the PS3 comes out on 1/18/11 with all the DLC and a digital-comic of ME1 that will give you the opportunity to make some of the key decisions in that game that impacted ME2.
ME1 won't be ported over to PS3 so the digital-comic is what we get.

    Definitely looking forward to it.

Wondering how the good guys will win? If they win.

Ive never played any Mass Effect game before but that trailer was awesome.

What kind of game is it...Bioware? So is it an RPG? Any info?

The first and second are very different games.

The first has a huge dumb inventory. It's not like the selection is a bad thing, it's just that navigating the inventory list sucks. Choosing guns and gun mods is a lot of fun. Mass Effect 1 has more RPG gameplay elements than the second. The first also has a few big storyline missions that take a few hours each plus lots of sidequests for fun. The storyline is much more big picture than the second. I really really really liked the storyline of the first. The gameplay is really good too.

The second improves the gameplay as well by adding a semi rock-paper-scissors mechanic so you need to pick your guns and abilities for you and your teammates to take advantage of what you're facing. The second game has the inventory stripped out and you're gradually given better weapons; Good and bad results. The second also very very heavily focuses on the characters and crew you're putting together rather than the 'big picture' story.

Overall, both are action/shooter-RPGs. Special abilities, leveling up, choosing gear( in the first ), selecting teammates for each mission at hand. Sidequests. Both very good games. Go play them, haha.

Play as a soldier first, then explore the other classes. The solider is the most straightforward "fire guns, kill bad guys, soak up damage class". The other classes are a bit more advanced in managing talents and using them effectively.

I played them on PC and really enjoyed them.

Man, when you get to Ilos in the first game, everything from then on is absolute gold. Loved everything from then on( though that's not to say I didn't love the rest of the game ).

It sounds like the second one is better than the first and since combined they are 60+ total hours of gameplay I think I will just start on the 2nd.
I was able to borrow both from a buddy so I could do the 1st one. Would it be confusing to jump right into the 2nd?

Mass Effect 2 for the PS3 will also use the new graphics engine that was developed for Mass Effect 3 which is cool.

    Here's an example from IGN

I'm so wet and ready for ME3. Too bad it's gonna be a year. The first two games are two of the best games I've ever played in terms of RPG/Story. Great control over the course of the story, and if you play the first one the depth and consequences of your actions are more discernible.
