Ok, that story was not really gameplaying connected imo, but it is a proven fact that playing games can be positive.
Many studies have confirmed, that kids who are playing games, tend to be better at solving problems (hey, not just PC related problems!) in their lives, as grown ups. They can think faster and remain more composed, logical reasoning works better.
Of course that's all about average people and the kids were playing mostly games where you actually have to think at least a little.
Concur on the positive effects on eye-hand and problem solving, but I've also been told repeatedly that more than 2 hours a day is negative. I see that with my own son. If I let him play more than 2 hours stright on any day, the next day he can't focus and he's nasty angry all day.
Hm, I guess it depends. When I was in elementary school 142 years ago, I played games 15 hours per day. I did manage to finish the school without a single B grade (yeah, I was nerdy). Hmmm...
