I agree, the puck does go out of play way too often. That does suck but the game is great. I kinda wish that the puck didn't hit the post so often but it could be my aiming.
For me it seems like I score most of my goals with a one-timer. It hard for me to score with a wrist shot but it could be that I'm just that bad.
What does everyone use for offensive strategies?
Ive tried them all out ( Behind the net, crash the net, overload ) and found that, not surprisingly, you can get the most traffic in front of the net with "crash the net". I simply set all my lines to that strategy.
Anyone try anything different?
I have to say the single player is starting to annoy the hell out of me. I'm generally dominating with the puck on Pro, but aside from the one-timer, virtually nothing is working for me. I had no trouble with the demo, but the cpu AI in this is flawless compared to it.
My shots from the point don't get through, while 1/4th of their shots from the blue line are perfect no matter how many players are screening my goalie.
My defensemen will habitually overcommit, leaving the computer alone in the slot where they virtually never miss, while no amount of puck movement can fool the defense when I'm on the attack.
If, for some reason, I can put myself in a good scoring position, either I hit the post, their goalie makes a miraculous save, or my player will ignore my input and just bury the puck into the goalie's chest. I score on, at best, one out of every twenty shots from the slot even when I pick the corner, while the cpu will score 75% of the time in the same area.
Like I said above, I had an awesome time with the demo....the gameplay was very fair, but the more I play this the cheaper it becomes. I'm going to try to mess around with the settings to make it more forgiving, but I see no reason why I should put up 45 shots, half of them legitimate scoring chances, and come away with one or two goals while the computer will just come back and score with robotic precision on high-percentage plays and no-chance shots alike.
Hopefully playing online against a human opponent will fix this.

I couldnt score for ****, so i did some tinkering and now I can score consistently (this is on ps2 btw) on difficult
-play every line of overload, set offensive pressure to aggressive/all out attack
-turned shooting accuracy, puckhandling all the way up
-have to use the skill deke stick thing, before passing on the one timer, when you get in close on the net i just move it around and he does like triple dekes and what not, a lot of the time you'll get the goalie to flop around and then you can just shoot
-use fake slap shots to get around D-men, sometimes the goalie goes crazy and you can just wrist it in
-using the skill stick to deke before a shot makes all the difference before shooting
I'm an NHL 07 veteran, so I know all the skill stick tricks. Trust me, I'm no newb.
Try shooting through the Five Hole. I scored two of those last night winning both online games.
I use the crash the net strategy which comes in handy for one timers. Still see a ot of shots go wide. Did Joe Corvo influence this year's game?
