Thread: NHL 09 News

Man, this game is pissing me off. I'm 0-3-1 since the All-Star break and have fallen from 4th in the Western Conference to 9th. I'm not sure what's going on. I'm still doing fine in the EASHL, and in my dynasty, I'm winning more than 50% of the faceoffs and getting more shots in most games.

Still, I have gone from 23-12-11 to 23-15-12, being outscored 9-2, including a 3-1 loss to league-worst Ottawa. I even lowered the AI learning slider, and haven't had any luck scoring. It's usually not a problem for me to get goals. Now I can't even support LaBarbera and his <2.00 GAA.

Kopitar is a cheating bastard.

I bit the bullet and made my first theme purchase. My digital camera only records 30-odd seconds of video, but here's my quickie "review" of the Kings NHL 09 theme. All 30 NHL teams are available at 150 points.

Ok, now that the game has been out for a while, I gotta ask. How is the online BAP experience for the 360?

Is there much slowdown? Do the controls feel right? Are there a lot of disconnecting douches and cheaters out there?

The Good:

100x more thrilling than offline BAP. It is a lot of fun when you have good games and you work together to set up goals.



The Bad:

Glitchers: People have figured out a way to max their statistics and they're virtually unbeatable. There's also a faceoff loop glitch that a few teams have apparently figured out how to do when they're losing. #1 threat to the EASHL, IMO.

Cheesers: People who only do money goals. Before the patch a few months ago, the #1 goal for these douchechunks was called the curveshot. Basically it's an offbalance forehand shot that tricks the goalie and went in about 80 percent of the time. Post-patch it is still about 20 percent. There are a few others like the "St. Louis" backwards skate on the breakaway which is money, and slapshots from the side of the net.

Connectivity issues: Generally it is pretty good, but every once in awhile it takes forever to connect to matches. I get good connections most of the time, but there are a couple of people that I just can't get green connections with. Every game I play online is silky smooth except for sports games for some reason. It's better than 08 which was better than 07.

Inconsistent AI: Your AI defensemen are retards, basically. Goalies run VERY hot and cold. One game they'll stop everything thrown their way, the next they let in the worst goals.

Skill Upgrading: Nearly impossible to get the highest rating unless you play on a division one team. I can't count how many times I've been at B+ with grades that are on the verge of the necessary A-, then we play a team that cheats and it goes downhill from there. The grade system might just be the most frustrating thing about ANY online game on the market. It should work like it does in offline BAP, except slower progression.

Whoever does their Beta testing should be given Cancerous AIDS then forcefully sterilized with rusty objects. Things will slip between the cracks, but some of these glitch goals and faulty animations should have been found very early in the process. If EA hires someone with at least a room-temperature IQ it would be an improvement.



Bottom line is that it is very fun when you're playing someone who is legit, but the glitchers will turn what would otherwise be an A or B+ performance into a C- or a D on EA's part. Obviously this is the first year so it can only go up.

I got an update today. Wonder if it fixes the 99 glitch?

We play this game at my friends constantly and these glitches are just getting to the point of ruining the game. Just pure garbage, you end up more worried about defending a glitch then actually playing hockey. Why can't EA ever get it right? And seriously who the hell tests these things before they come out?

EA Forums: Upcoming Xbox 360 and PS3 Patch

The NHL Development Team has been working hard creating a patch to address the current attribute glitch along with making other gameplay improvements.

At this time the goal is to have the patch released sometime in February following adequate testing and normal submission procedures.

More information on the details of the patch will be released as the testing and submission process continues.
