How cool would it be to incorporate the Winter Classic stadiums? Just steal the wind and snow effects from Madden...
Maybe it's just me. ::shrug::
Has anyone played NBA Live 09. I haven't but I was reading up on it today and they have a new system for updating rosters called DNA whereby each player is updated on a real life game by game basis.
Here's a much deep explanation...Quote:
NBA LIVE 365 takes the statistical data of Dynamic DNA and brings it to life. NBA LIVE 09 is now constantly evolving and authentically reflects what you see on the court in your virtual experience. Just like the real NBA game, players get injured, free agents sign late, great players go cold and no-names breakthrough. If you're a sports fan, this is a dream come true - NBA LIVE 09 is made fresh daily all season long.

I wonder if something like this would be possible in future NHL games.
Here is my list:
1 - More realistic BAP call up's from the AHL and more realistic demotions to AHL. When I finally made it to the big club, I averaged 2-3 points per game, 2nd in NHL scoring, and got demoted to 3rd line AHL when another player got off the IR.
2 - Demand a trade. After the above happened, I wanted to be traded.
3 - Why do I start my career as a 3rd liner in the AHL with an overall rating of 79? There are 3rd and 4th liners on the Kings with lower overall ratings. I should be on the big club from the start. Alternatively, start the over all rating in the 60's, but they need to give out point upgrades faster and more representative of your play.
4 - Finding team mates online that are not waiting in the locker room and get them to join a team game. I have been a member of Team LGK but have yet to play a game. Every time I am online I check the locker room but no one is waiting. I am sure there people online that decided not to sit around and wait in the locker room for someone else to join. Maybe I just play at real bad times during the day.
5 - Rip these 2 ideas off NHL 2K9. Trivia while your game is loading, like NHL 2k9. This makes the loading time fly by. Zamboni game in 2k9 in between periods. These are the only 2 things in NHL 2k9 that are any good about the game. EA needs to steal the ideas.
Also... include ALL of a teams jerseys. Like the King's "Burger King" jersey and all of those ugly Coyotes jerseys from the late 90's.
I like the Winter Classic stadium idea also.
Can't you lift the Cup in 2K9? That seems kinda fun.
Also, the thing that pisses me off about BAP is when you take a fighting major you have no way of know when your five minutes are up. I'm noticing that even after a string of 25 very successful games I can't gain enough XP to improve my character all that much. Do you gain more XP as you progress or is 25-35 XP per game for good?
25-35 Experience Points per game is DAMN good.
The point of you gaining experience points so slow is so you are "building" your character. And that means playing game after game all season long (and even after that).
Too many people want 99 overall ratings after like 30 games, it's ridiculous to me.
The only complaint from the Experience is in Goalie Mode. On my best games, I can only get 10 or 11 in each of the three categories. As a defenseman, I can usually get 20-25 per category, depending on whether or not I get a point.
I sometimes find myself wondering to what extent the stats generated for your players are accurate and actually affect the play in the game. Like Balance and Checking being ones I immediately think of off the top of my head.
If your character is 5'8" and has a Checking stat of 65, why are you still able to absolutely level and destroy players along the boards? Conversely, if your Balance is 88 shouldn't you be harder to take down both in terms of when you're checked and when you're cutting to the net?
Why would you feel even compelled to boost that stat if that number is apparently doing nothing? If I had to spend some time using my experience points or practice time so that I'm not slipping and sliding on the ice like Nelson Emerson it makes it more real and worthwhile.
I'm not a huge fan of the line change button setup. Sometimes the camera angle makes it hard to see where the bench is so if I choose to press the button I don't want everyone on the ice to right then and there change and leave it open for a breakaway. Make it like the pros where the individual signals the bench for a guy to replace him.
If I win the Stanley Cup I want to see the banner hanging in the rafters. I also want banner raising ceremony as the opening animation at the first home game of the next season. If you don't want to see it, just press the button and fast forward.
If someone is coming at me for a check and I see it coming I want the ability to give them the cold shoulder.
If I stand over the goalie or hit him while he's trying to cover the puck the defense should be all over me. Basically have the game be smarter in reacting to stuff you do (like hitting after the whistle) by starting a scrum.
Hell, let me start a scrum by face washing someone or poking them with a stick! :)
I wish some of the moves you could pull off in hockey were more varied, like how some of the NBA and FIFA games allow you more tools to really take someone off the dribble. Maybe even tie it to what player type you select (Power Forward, Dangler, etc.) and the skill numbers you have in certain stats.
If you build your character up and have a balance of at least <insert number> and you're a Power Forward then you open up options in a skill tree special to a Power Forward. It might sound weird, but it would work like an RPG game where you use experience points to power up certain abilities. You'd be allowed to pick from the other skill sets a Dangler might have, but it costs more experience points. Whereas choosing from the Power Forward skill sets cost less.
This might be too realistic, but have the game keep track of how much damage you take during the course of the game. If the other team is targeting you with big hits and it goes beyond whatever number your Durability stat allows then you get injured. Trips to the bench and intermission will allow the trainer to patch you up, but the recovery rate depends on something like say Endurance or something. If you happen to get knocked out maybe it sims to when you're next available to play.
As well, you deal a certain amount of damage based on say Checking and if you're a forward on the forecheck and you keep nailing a defenseman he's going to be injured, but also be more prone to coughing it up because the next hit could take them out of the game.
If a particular player is added to your team (trade, free agent, minor league callup) and their skills compliment your character (like line chemistry except you don't restrict it to just lines but being on a team) then an auto-boost to some of your stats. Conversely if there is a player that was responsible in boosting your stats leaves you get a minus. Maybe tie that to something like Leadership or some other stat and have it so you also do the same for other players.
In BAP mode I'm of course playing with the Kings and re-signed with the Kings after my rookie season...
I agree that there should be more player movement options in the BAP mode. Although i'm doing kick-ass in terms of the standings and the team really doesn't have a need to do any trades, I wish there were a few more trades done either between my major and minor league team or team to team in the big show. I guess my BAP player and team is so dominant that there's no need to do anything.
My Manch team has been short a D-man the whole 2nd season and has been filling in a forward in the d-spot, that's unacceptable while on the Kings Team I have a rookie d-man that's been sitting on the bench for the majority of the season since the "GM" signed a free agent D-man. That rookie should be sent down to fill that empty D position...but no luck.
I get what you're saying but having it a general team thing for anything other than a "Leadership" rating doesn't make sense, only line combo's should be relevant when it comes to skill complements (i.e. Dangler + Playmaker + Powerforward)
I think the 2k series made this an important part of their game along with the Hot/Cold ratings.
