Can I just say that I LOVE the boardplay function? I luv using at the blueline to stop dudes from entering the zone. Ironically EA supposedly intended it to generate more of a forechecking game, but in reality it is an amazingly affective DEFENSIVE tool...I don't even bother trying to check guys from behind anymore (what's the point anyway..you just bounce off) and just go straight for boardplay.
...the passing still sux though.

I'm having an extremely slow start because I still can't pass correctly, even when I know I'm aiming properly. And my shot power is pretty pathetic compared to 09, but I'll adjust or get there eventually. I guess I am still very negative about people buying these boosts packs instead of unlocking it, I feel like I'm 2 steps behind everyone.
Do any of you guys lag in EASHL? I'm not talking about internet connection lag, but game lag.
We had 6 guys on yesterday (unlocked a trophy for that) and every single time we cross the blue line, the game starts lagging for 2-3 seconds. It gets really unbearable. We ended up doing split squad (3 on each side) and stopped lagging when we crossed the blueline.
The same thing happens on defense. With 5 on 5 or 6 on 5 that we're playing, when the puck is near our crease and there are lots of human players, it starts lagging.
If lag happens in those two situations only, there's no way it's me right? It has to be the game.
The connection was terrible last night until about 2:00am local, but that was probably due to the server issues.
I'm not sure how to separate the types of latency issues. I know there's your typical stuttering of which there was a lot earlier last night, and input lag which has always been the big problem...but then there's also the issue of display lag if you're playing on 1080p or whatever.
I've absolutely noticed the blue line lag thing but I'm not sure what would cause it, whether more people on the rush means more computing power needed or something to do with the Artificial Intelligence doing some type of work.
One of our guys has the boost, but considering the number of people online who have them already, I'd certainly entertain the idea of getting it. The upside is that they look pretty decent with Boston's uniforms so it'd fit in. I dunno, we're competing right now but if everyone starts skating circles around us, it's another thing. I would rather they have left all that stuff out though.
I have an idea for everyone who wants one of those gold equipment boost things and don't want to shell out the extra money...
One of the things say you have to win battle for the cup mode with all 30 NHL teams...it doesn't say what difficulty or how many games, so I'm gunna try to win on rookie with all 30 teams, at 4 minute periods (the lowest possible) and single game knockout and see how that works out. I already won with the Ducks and it sucked watching the cup celebration with them for the first time winning it...but it's just a video game so oh well. I figure if I play 3 games a day, I could have it in 10 days. If it doesn't work, then it is kind of a waste of time.
Okay . . . how long is EA going to strive for "authentic", but the still can't get penalties and powerplays correctly. How difficult is it to have ten minute misconducts every time there is an instigator? Last night I took a penalty at the end of the game that was never counted in the stats. And powerplays that run past game time don't count in the PP/PK stats.
Kudos to EA for finally getting custom soundtracks on PS3 - I downloaded all of the current goal songs last night, and it really adds to the atmosphere.
Game play wise, I do like the slower pace - I find it much more realistic than the arcade speedy gonzalez type game that existed in the past.
So I just played 3 Online Team Play pickup games, why oh why did I do that?! My +/- went from -3 to like -12 now. Horrible.
But one thing I did "fix" is the passing! I took myself off of defensive d-man and actually put offensive d-man. The passing stat is way higher and with the points I added, it's at 85. So my passes have been somewhat fixed for the most part.
What is ridiculous is that now I can hit again, even though my Balance + Checking stats were way higher as a defensive d-man. So I easily picked up 4-5 hits without getting out of position as opposed to managing 0-1 hit when I actually had hitting stats.
But yeah, no more OTP pickup games unless I'm really bored. Still plenty of stupid players who don't know how to play their position or hockey in general. And still lots of puck hogs which is a pain, considering it's harder to "breakout" in this game. So it's turnover after turnover.
