NHL 11 Retail Version Question and Answer

Be A GM
Contract extension during the regular season ?
No, doesn’t appear so.

Will players request for a trade in you don't treat them right in BAGM?
Will have to play the mode for a while longer to find this out.

In BAGM there was the talk about scores around the league? but is it like the Extra point in madden or anything.
There is no highlight show like the Extra Point. No ticker either as far as I can tell.

What is the longest term contract you can offer a player/free agent? 7 years? 10 years?
The longest contract length is 8 years.

I want to know if 20 years old undrafted prospects become in free-agent ?
Doesn’t look like it.

In Be A Gm, can you hire and fire coaches?
No.

Are Hot and Cold streaks back?
Nope.

Will the cpu gm's be smarter? like how they send down halak and pekka rinne to the minors...
Yes. Carey Price ended up an FA in my first season, but that's the only odd move I've seen so far.

In preseason, do you start with your 50 man roster and do you have to cut/demote 27?
Nope, you start w/ your normal roster. I only played 1 preseason game, then simmed to the regular season. Ideally you would scratch most of your starters and play rookies/other guys, but I didn’t do that for time related reasons. I did play NYR though, and they didn’t start Lundqvist so the AI likely knows it’s preseason and you’ll see rosters adjust accordingly.

Are the trade deadline and draft day minigames still in the game?
Yes.

Does BAGM still corrupt all the time?
No, I think this is fixed though it never did for me last year.

Can you hire coaches and do you manage fianances like for example..the better your team and the higher your prices for tickets and cincession the more money you get to upgrade your team and pay for better players.
No, nothing like that in this year’s Be A GM.

Can you choose to NOT name a captain for your team? Is there a way to make you're goalie your captain? Is there an option to have three alternate captains?
No to all of the above.

BAP
Can you request a trade in BAP? Will you be able to negotiate a contract in be a pro?.. or will you be forced to sign a contract right away when your agent tells you?
What your agent tells you, three year entry level contract.

Other than the Memorial Cup, have they made ANY changes to BAP?
You play a few games in the memorial cup (I simmed them all and was drafted 125th overall or something), then you get your entry level contract, the game sims to the preseason where you have a chance to either stay in the NHL or get sent down to the NHL, and that’s as far as I’ve gotten in BAP. They also seemed to get very pissed I was simming the games as I was sent down to the AHL before the preseason even ended, and there were all sorts of subtle hints in my GM/Coach messages telling me to take a more “hands on” approach, aka play the actual games.

EASHL
Have you tried EASHL practice mode yet? Can you play 1 on 0 against a human goalie?
No, the EASHL isn’t really up and running yet.

Clown gear is removed but is there still the toque? Also can you go helmetless?
No and no. Only “fake” equipment is the Bauer preorder gear and there are some vintage sticks.

Multiple "classes" for EASHL? One for forward, dman and goalie?
No, just one player build this year as in year’s past. Though navigating and changing attributes is less cumbersome.

Do goalies have more choices in terms of masks for eashl? is there any customization possible?
Yes, there are more choices (some CHL masks), but no, no customization.

Can we unlock more boosts by playing eashl and drop in games?
Yes, most unlockables can be done through completing either an offline or online task this year.

HUT
Just to get a feel for what the starter pack for ultimate team what was in your pack if you can remember? What types of cards did you get?
My starting pack for HUT was very weak. Mostly unknown CHLers and Euro players. My best player was probably a low 70something from the AHL. It took me about 10 games but I was able to build my team from 1 to 2 stars. You will NOT need real money to build a successful team, but it will require some patience and persistent effort plus management and game skill. I believe this is what EA intended.

How much will each of the ultimate team card packs cost in MS points / PSN money.
The option is not yet available.

Can two different people have the same Team Name in HUT?
In Madden, you can’t. Not sure about NHL, but I think not.

For HUT can you stack contract cards. Ex: Can you do 5 10 game contracts to add up to 50 or will you need a rare contract to get a long term contract?
Yes.

How many packs of cards are in the game? (the 4 we know or more) Is it hard to get rare cards? What is the best cards you got in this short time? (trainings, players, contracts, jerseys...) Are all coaches created ones or are the NHL ones in it? Are the overalls the same as the default roster? Is the search option in the auction/trading working good?
Peewee, Standard, Jumbo, Consumable is all there is so far; each pack contains a certain number of guaranteed rare cards w/ a chance for an extra; some AHLers, a +9 training; not sure, haven’t gotten a coach yet; I don’t think they are the same, but I might be wrong. I can’t get back into HUT w/o Internet to check; it worked when I used it once or twice.

Presentation
Is user celebration time a bit more extended?
No, and really, I like it the way it is. It would get really annoying online if it were too much longer.

Playoff beards and Stanley Cup patches?
Patches are inexplicably missing. Beards were never in.

Are there national anthems/are the intro's different from what we have seen?
Nope.

Are the opening intros longer than what we've seen in the quick clips?
No.

Realistic arenas, interactive/dynamic scoreboards and LED banners?
Arenas are better, lighting seems to make a noticeable difference. Scoreboards are similar to what you see in the demo (flashy EAS logos, don’t really reflect the game).

How does the custom goal horn option work?
The game plays the horn first, then when it’s finished, your goal music. After goals is only about 20 seconds or so, so it’s easiest to craft one MP3 w/ the horn and music. Set that for Custom Goal Horn, and set “No Music” for Custom Goal Music. I have already set up every horn in the league, and found this set up to be best.

Flyers jerseys fixed... Nameplates and colors?
They are the same as the demo. I’m guessing there is a technical issue preventing them from fixing the jerseys as they were aware of the inaccuracy last season, and were unable to fix it this year.

Can we color customize logos from leagues other than the NHL in Create-A-Team? In NHL10 we could only customize the colors of NHL team logos.
NHL teams plus vintage teams only.

Have any of the arena models been updated in this years game? (or scoreboards for that matter?)
Yes, a decent amount, but some are still outdated.

Are starting lineups longer than posted in the demo?
I think you mean the intros, and no, they are the same length.

Is there pre game warmup like posted in a video when players came with no helmets on?
Not in any of the modes I have played.

Is the Bruins Winter Classic jersey in the game? Devils Christmas jerseys?
Sadly, they are not.

Creation Zone (offline)
Are there vintage logos available in Create a Team?
Yes sir.

Is there a max limit for created teams/players?
I’m assuming there is, but I don’t know what the numbers actually are.

Did they add more jersey styles and logos in create-a-team? More goalie mask choices and designs?
Yes.

Can we edit the colors on current real life logos? Could you make a red Maple Leaf?
Yes, though you could also do this last year.

How improved is Creation Zone? Any vintage gear?
There have been some improvements, and yes, there is a small amount of vintage gear.

How young can you make a CAP this year?
Doesn’t look like you pick the age. You just choose what year you were drafted.

Miscellaneous
Are there more vintage jerseys other than Hartford Whalers?
Yes, there are some other new ones.

Are the attribute effects/descriptions present somewhere in the game?
Yes, in the Help Menu same as the demo.

Jersey code right?
Of course.

Will Online Leagues return?
I would imagine so.

Changes since Demo?
Hipchecks have been called interference appropriately for me. Haven’t seen goalies drop pucks into their own net and line change menu isn’t fixed yet, but they are aware of it already.

Can you add NHLers and created players to CHL teams?
Yes, you can move players around any leagues in the game.

Are the Warrior Swagger's in?
Nope.

Did slashing command (L2 / triangle) get implemented back into full version or is it still omitted?
Still out.

Figures. Minor tweaks to Be-A-GM and the Be-A-Pro mode.

He won a Det/Tor game with the Laffs 1-0 with 45 seconds to go in a head to head match with one of the other NHL 11 staffers. I've played better having downed 2 drinks. Both of them kept going for the same damn play, the cross ice feed, which this year's AI D seems to be much better at stopping. Rarely went to the point, playing behind the net was non existent, etc.

Seriously? I love getting the puck back to the points and firing away, hopefully he shows up for his next game!

in his defense, it is kind of tough playing the game while having someone interview you at the same time...

This sucks. I won't be able to get NHL 11 for awhile. Anyone want to buy it for me til I get the money? :P
