I'm sure they still have the option to go straight into an NHL team.

NHL 12 Producer Blog: Revamped Be a Pro Mode - Operation Sports
Last year we added the CHL into the game, and in Be a Pro we allowed you to play the Memorial Cup and then enter the NHL Entry Draft. This year we took it one step further by allowing you to play multiple seasons in the CHL. By starting in the CHL, you can now start as a 15 year old (OHL exceptional player status) and play multiple seasons (however you can choose how many years you play) in the CHL prior to being drafted. Once you get drafted, you get your shot at making the NHL team in the preseason, and if you don’t make the NHL team you will get sent back down to your junior team for some more seasoning. If you don’t want to play as yourself in the CHL, we now let you play as any CHL player and live out his career.

I love the CHL idea. Because in all honesty, to me, a great pro simulation game..needs to be as precise as it can be. And I always felt making a player at age..i dunno 18 and dumping him on an NHL squad was like...oh okay..I understand but...cmon...
SO many things unrealistic even in this. The goal...I love how Frolik is sliding sideways. And players turning completely around on a dime. And that stupid little blocker rebound that lays right out to the left of the goalie...can't tell you how many times that has nailed me.
Same we expected it and this other team is going to see a ton of it lines haha about the hitting. Regardless I'm still going to buy it and so are the rest of you , don't kid yourselves. = )
Hey, if you're willing to lay down $60 for basically the same gameplay as NHL'08 with official rosters, a couple features, and the Jets, that's your call, but please don't paint us all with that brush. I'm longing for 2k Sports to step up and offer something so that, at the least, EA might have SOME incentive to actually put some real work into the series. It's getting old, and it may be the best video game hockey out there, but it's still got a long ways to go before feeling like hockey.

Yeah, completely understandable. It's a pretty good gig they've got going there. If the playerbase wants to enjoy THAT feature, they pretty much have no choice but to pony up and buy the new version every year. I'm not familiar enough with the EASHL to know this, but is it even possible to play the older versions of it anymore? I'm guessing not, but...
