NHL 12 news

I played a few games last night, and I still have mixed feelings about this game. Unfortunately, I can't really make a decent judgement call until I can mess with the sliders.

Did anyone notice any weird bugs? I've had a few where the penalty pop up comes up, and even the ref has his hand up, yet, both teams touch the puck and nothing gets called. It happened during the face-off too. Also, I hate the fact that goalie interference calls seem to be rare. I've had battles in front of the net that have resulted in me bumping the goalie and even knocking his helmet off, but no calls. And at one time, the cpu checked my goalie, shot the puck, hit a defender, then magically bounced right back to that same player, then the goalie sprawled and made an awesome save, but got hit AGAIN, still no call, and the cpu finally scored. While the save was awesome to watch, I don't like the idea that the goalie is being knocked around so much without any calls. There's also been instances where a player gets injured on the ice, lays around, then his body starts to glide towards the bench as if something is pulling it. It was so freaky.

Going to play it some more, but so far it just feels like NHL 11 with a few tweaks.

I really hope there is a slider of how often running goalies will be called for. four times, the cpu ran STRAIGHT into my goalie for no reason knocking the net off....no penalties; granted, same thing for me.

I wonder if this demo is the final build of the game, or a beta version. Who knows but somestimes the retail is better and stuff

Ooo I would like to know how to cheat on the faceoffs myself haha. Some of the play-by-play was recycled like the baseball comments. Lazy EA! But I do like the new menus and the cleaner visuals as well. I liked the demo, and I'm looking forward to the game in the near future too.

Just keep tapping back on the right analog until you win the faceoff. So lame that they put that in the game to begin with, since the faceoff system is actually pretty cool. There's also another cheap way to win faceoffs, although I'm not sure how to do it. Basically, your player grabs the puck and jumps forward, which makes for an easy goal if you're in the offensive zone. That's by far the hardest cheese to stop and definitely the most annoying to me, but I've kinda learned how to position myself (as a RW on the left faceoff circle in my zone.) If the faceoff is on the right side, we are pretty much screwed unless a poke actually works.

Edit: I'm talking about NHL 11 of course, but I'm sure it will be the same thing on 12.

Are you talking about hopping the center on the face off? I absolutely hate that cheese because it's a given everybody will try it constantly and if you don't know how to defend it, it's such a cheesy goal. That move should only work 1 out of every 100, and only if your faceoffs are super high. I haven't seen a player not named Crosby do that in the real NHL in years.

Yeah, that faceoff is one of the worst cheese moves in the game. You really need the inside position wingers and both D to defend against it with good success. If one person messes up their coverage it's almost a guaranteed goal unless someone can get in the way of the cross-crease pass somehow. **** happens so quickly with that play that it's very hard to recover if a coverage is missed.

I played about 8 play now periods and 2 BAP ones. didnt notice any major differences other than the goalies being live and that was pretty gimicky.

Do have to say the EA Vancouver crew programmed some serious catch up logic for their Nucks. I have been burned 3 times now on BS situations.

I pretty much play center exclusively and have taken close to 16K faceoffs in NHL 11 with a 62% success rate. From my experience I recommend that if you play center you should have a 95+ FO (I use 99) rating with a 90+ D. Awareness (I use a 95). I friggin HATE when the opposing center tries to pull the forward deke on every faceoff, because eventually he will pull it off at some point in the game. The best way to defend against it (especially in the defensive zone down low) is to use the DEFENSIVE faceoff alignment which positions your defenders in the best position to defend the shot/cross crease pass. If you have a good FO rating you can usually win the FO, so the alignment is a backup plan.

For the FO twitch-glitch, it doesn't really work too well if the opposing center has a good FO rating. Most of the time it comes down to lag. For example, if both centers have a FO rating of 99, whoever times it better will win. Sometimes twitching works for you when you have a better FO rating than the opposing center, but he has a better connection and less lag.

So far I love the demo and the gameplay/physics seem much smoother and more realistic than last year's game. Of course there will always be issues / bugs / glitchers, but this game is still fun as hell to play and it's nice to play with fellow LGKers and talk hockey (especially right after a Kings game).

As a left winger/power forward, i've managed to time my hit perfectly in my defensive zone just in case they try to do that, unfortunately I can't stop myself from hitting him if he doesn't win the faceoff, because it fools me into believing he did cause he's still jumping over so i get an interference call.
