Decided to see what the talk is on NHL 15 at Operation Sports when this topic suddenly got my attention.
Is EASHL in XB1/PS4 Versions of NHL 15? - Operation Sports Forums
NHL 15 PS4 / X1 - No EASHL in the game? - NeoGAF
Hope more news will surface from Gamescom in general. All that has been announced so far is that the demo will come out on August 26 for PS4/Xbox One. They didn't even mention a demo for the PS3/360.Quote:
There are a variety of rumors and a distinct lack of news when it comes to the popular EASHL mode and its status in the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 version of NHL 15. Today, Best Buy Canada added a lot of smoke to the no EASHL in XB1/PS4 NHL 15 fire by posting gameplay specs which tend to indicate the game will only support two-player online play. In comparison, the Xbox 360 version's product page shows 2-12 players are supported online, which fits with EASHL's requirements.
Up to this point, there has been no indication EASHL is in this year's game on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, with a feature list from the American Best Buy website completely omitting EASHL as well. It stands to reason that EASHL might have been a difficult feature to program on newer generation consoles and the NHL team simply ran out of time. However, given the relative popularity of the mode, the possible absence of EASHL is something which will not go unnoticed by the NHL community.
Now granted, this is NOT confirmation from EA that EASHL is not in the game -- and it is entirely possible it is a mistake, so let's not all panic just yet. With a month to go until release, there are obviously many features we haven't heard about, so it's premature to lift this above idle speculation -- but there are some dots beginning to connect on this story. We have reached out to EA for comment on this and we will certainly update this post if/when that comes back to us.
H/T to @grayisthecolor on Twitter for alerting us to the Best Buy page and sending us down this rabbit hole this evening.
Update (Tuesday 1:30pm CST): A user on Reddit is claiming that there will be no EASHL or GM Connected in the game on X1/PS4 and that confirmation will come within a week or two. Of course, this is an unverified user on Reddit, so let's not get too panicky on this one. What the post does do is it continues to add smoke to the fire. We still haven't received any word from EA on the matter, despite putting in a request for comment, which could mean anything. NHL will be shown at GamesCom, so it's likely we'll probably find out the truth one way or another within a day or two.
Would no EASHL change your buying decision of NHL 15?
Honestly, I (and probably everyone else) just assumed that EASHL would be included automatically since that game mode has been in the game since NHL 09. They would be stupid not to include it. But anyway, hope it's just a nasty rumor.
Was going to post that right now Mel.
If EASHL isn't on xb1/ps4, I'm not buying the game. It's the only reason I buy it anymore. And the only reason I play offline is to unlock boosts for EASHL. And if it's in for last gen systems, I'm not buying that either because that's guaranteed to be a NHL 14v2.0 (ie same game with a jersey and roster update).
Totally unacceptable if it's not in the game.
"EA Sports - eat a d###"
You're right, NHL 15 on 360/PS3 will definitely be NHL14 2.0 with a roster update. The only "new" thing they'll put is the new commentary and the NBC logo on it.
I even went to the EASports website and this is what you see under Features where they describe what's in the game:
- 12 Player NHL Collision Physics
- Real Puck Physics
- Authentic Player and Equipment Models
- Unprecedented Player Likeness
- Superstar Skill Stick
- Authentic Arenas
- New Commentary Team
- NBC Sports Game Day Presentation
- Living Crowds
- Vision AI
- Multiplayer NHL Collision Physics Year two of the critically-acclaimed NHL® Collision Physics evolves to introduce true-to-life multiplayer collisions. Net scrambles and player pileups capture the true desperation of every shift in the NHL.
- All-New Commentary Team NHL 15 welcomes the NBC Sports™ commentary team of Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick and Eddie Olczyk to the broadcast booth. Doc and Eddie will anticipate plays and ramp up their intensity to match the action on the ice with over 35,000 lines of brand-new commentary.
- Lace Up the Skates - Fall 2014 Play old-school hockey with NHL 94 Anniversary Mode, suit up with an online team in EA SPORTS Hockey League, or build and play with your ultimate fantasy team in Hockey Ultimate Team. NHL15 brings with it a generation of the franchise’s best game modes.
Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd that's it. =\ They would copy and paste the All-New Commentary team to both gens but left out everything. Seems like they're only pimping the graphics and features for next gen. And the more they stay silent on this matter, the more it's true. Otherwise, they would immediately come out and reassure everyone that the mode is in (as to not lose sales).
I always thought it was weird that all of the pre-order bonuses this year is related to HUT only. The past few years, Best Buy would have EASHL stuff as their pre-order bonus. It never occurred to me that this would even be an issue. =\
Looking at the trailers, you see the first person view stuff too.. so I would imagine that Live the Life/Be a Pro is still in it but just offline. And the only thing that is guaranteed for online is Versus mode and HUT (because that's their bread and butter in terms of getting stupid people to buy packs.)
If it was in, they would have said so by now. With all the rumors that it's not in and no evidence that it is, adding that it is EA sports, I have no faith.
They will say "we ran out of time", or "the physics engine caused multiplayer problems".
