I will go ahead and do what nobody ever does and admit that I'm becoming a fan boy (EA) and that my opinion is somewhat biased, but I have to say that 2k8 looks like 2k7 which is to say that it looks like 2k6, 2k5, 2k4, and 2k.
Now, 2k owned......PWNED.... EA each year up until last year because it was a better simulation, and all 2k sports had to do was stay the course because EA was sure to put out a s--t product, but now that EA has taken huge leaps, from 06 to 07, and 07 to 08, I'm not sure that 2k can keep up without major innovations.

I've always been a fan of both series. Even when EA kept producing those arcade style games instead of pure simulation like 2ksports. I'd play both and everything. But THIS year, my budget is going to be tough... since I gotta buy an Xbox 360. But looking at all the footage and stuff... EA looks like it's blown 2ksports out of the water.
I'll definitely still rent this 2k8 game though, before I completely judge it. But we'll see. Either way, can't wait for a new hockey game

Considering the glowing reviews pretty much across the board for EA's demo, it's not a good sign that 2k still hasn't put their's out...

2K HAD submitted their demo to Microsoft 3 weeks ago. It's just up to Microsoft to test the demo out before putting it up on the Marketplace. It's just unfortunate they couldn't get it to Microsoft sooner.

One minute into the first game, Cloutier leaves the entire net open for Bertuzzi. Game ended in a shoot-out with the final score 6-5. Bertuzzi had a hattrick.Very realistic! JMFJ is rated 83 overall. Rosters are really updated. The only thing I had to change was Roenick to San Jose.

I have always loved the 2k version more than EA because 2k makes the game more exciting while EA was kind of slow.

The skill stick is starting to grow on me. I am starting to learn it and man, you can do some amazing things with it! So much more control this way.
The superstar moves are awesome, but there are very few opportunities to get to use them - possibly just shootouts. I had a breakaway with JMFJ last night and I tried a superstar move - but he was not skilled enough to pull it off and lost the puck! I tried some in practice and Frolov seems to pull them off the best, but the timing and position must be exact in order to execute and get the shot on net (tough to do even when there is no opposition) - a great feature!
Its a fun game and I am glad that I am taking the time to learn the skill stick. Makes it a whole new game! As soon as I get more comfortable with using skill stick, I'm gonna start going through franchise mode.

Not to knock the 2k series too much, as I've been playing EA for years now, but I rented both and I almost couldn't stand to finish a game with 2K8. That's just me though. I would still recommend renting both before making a purchase either way. You might be surprised.
