We were still feeling each other out in Game 1. Things were pretty even most of the way, with DET finally getting one in at the end for a 1-0 victory:
Game 2 looked like it was going to get out of hand early, as DET took a fairly quick 2-0 lead on a Nik Lidstrom blast from the point and a Kirk Maltby shorthanded goal. Finally, the decisive Game 3. It looked like it would be similar to Game 1: hard-fought and evenly matched. It was just that. 0-0 through 2 periods, but then the floodgates opened in the 3rd. DET kept answering for every SJ goal.
