    They're rebuilding.

Haven't announced it yet (read: I just thought of it), but the winner of this tournament will have the option of being the Kings in the next one. They were the only off-limits team this time around, since probably everyone would have wanted to be them.

Default GAME 1 RECAP: Oilers at Canucks

'Nucks Not Slick Enough for Oil, Lose 3-2

Alexander Edler's desperate dive prevented Luongo from reestablishing position as Dustin Penner scored the game winner with 3 seconds to go.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) - After the dramatic turnaround last week against the Flyers, the Canucks got a taste of their own medicine, watching the game slip away in the waning seconds of the 3rd period.

The Sedins couldn't carry the team alone in a losing effort Monday night.

It was all Sedins again for Vancouver, with Henrik digging out a rebound from somewhere under Oiler netminder Mathieu Garon late in the first, and brother Daniel taking advantage of a 5-minute major boarding call on Andrew Cogliano in the 3rd. The Canucks couldn't manage, however, to net another on a full 2-minute 5-on-3 powerplay when an Edmonton defeseman tossed the puck out of play during that same major penalty.

"It was horrible," said Vancouver enforcer Darcy Hordichuk. "I just wanted to punch somebody."

Any questions lingering over Mathieu Garon's abilities have been answered with an exclamation mark during these playoffs, as he put up yet another stellar performance, stopping several Grade-A chances with ease.

"Voulez-vous danser avec moi? Le coeur a ses raisons que la raison ne connaît point," Garon said. "Entre deux coeurs qui s'aiment, nul besoin de paroles."

Mathieu Garon has been lights out throughout the tournament

The Canucks will look to rebound in game 2 before heading to the frozen tundra that is Edmonton later this week.

Damn Steve Bernier!! Two turnovers caused by him led to two goals.

I got outplayed badly though... but I'll just put all the blame on Garon.

I think that was the first roughing penalty I got ever... it was hilarious. Whoever I hit, was laying on the ice holding his head.

While it seems like most of you are allergic to the "like" button, I just want to personally say thanks for looking anyway.

lol I was really hoping that hit would be one of the highlights. I was surprised there wasn't an injury... never seen a player just lay on the ice without being injured like that.

I'm waiting for the AP report... I'll post it as soon as it's available. The Vancouver media must be super excited and partying after today's big trade

Back on Track, Canucks Pound Oil 4-0

#1 Star Steve Bernier celebrates with the fans on his game winning goal.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) - Sparked by Tuesday's blockbuster trade with Los Angeles, the Canucks came out flying last night and didn't let up until the final buzzer sounded, shutting out the Oilers 4-0 before a sellout crowd of 174,490 in the recently expanded GM Place.

After a balanced but physical first period, Steve Bernier set the tone for the rest of the evening at the 7:22 mark of the 2nd, stripping the puck from a befuddled defenseman and putting it past Mathieu Garon. That goal would prove to be all the Canucks needed, but they didn't stop there. Bernier again forced a turnover with 37 seconds remaining in the 2nd, carried the puck to the net and slid it under a sprawling Garon for his second unassisted goal of the night, which proved to take all the wind out of Edmonton's sails.

Craig MacTavish and defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky considering carreers outside of the world of hockey.

It wasn't all offense, however, as a rested Roberto Luongo returned to dominance, stopping all 14 shots thrown his way.

"With the acquisition of LaBarbera today, I need to show the coach that I'm still the #1 guy. They're clearly trying to replace me," Luongo sniffled.

Luongo returned to form, stoning Fernando Pisani.

The stats show a pretty even game, with teams having the same PP opportunities (2), faceoffs won (12), and identical passing (100/141). The stats don't show it all, however. 3 of the Canucks 4 goals turned out to be unassisted as Edmonton couldn't seem to keep a handle on the puck.

Taylor Pyatt's unassisted backhander was icing on the cake.

Mats Sundin recorded his first point of the tournament, setting up Kyle Wellwood at the 19:16 mark of the 3rd. Pyatt netted his unassisted goal just 7 seconds later. Quite rude, to be honest.

"I shaved my head again this morning," Sundin said.

Kyle Wellwood from Mats Sundin and Kevin Bieksa.

The series will now head to the frozen wasteland of Edmonton. God help us all.

    1st Star:

    Steve Bernier - 2g, 0a

    2nd Star:

    Roberto Luongo - 14 saves

    3rd Star:

    Kevin Bieksa - 0g, 1a

Roberto Luongo and the Vancouver Canucks have led me to the first LGK NHL 09 XBOX 360 LOLWTFBBQ Championship!

Media reports to follow. Thanks everyone for participating!
