    Default Playstation 4

Just watched the conference, the PS4 was announced.

DUALSHOCK 4 adopts the familiar form factor of the DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller with some key enhancements:

Motion control is enabled by a new highly sensitive six-axis sensor

Dual analog sticks fine-tuned for better precision plus improved surface materials and shape for more delicate manipulation

L2/R2 buttons on the top of the controller employ a curved design for easier, smoother interaction

A new “Options” button combines the functions of the DUALSHOCK 3’s “Select” and “Start” buttons for operating in-game menus
They didn't reveal what the console will look like, I'm guessing they are waiting for E3.

Bungie (the team who created Halo) will be releasing a new game "Destiny" for the PS4, Blizzard will be releasing Diablo 3 for the PS3 and PS4, Watch Dogs will be on the PS4, and Square Enix will have a Final Fantasy announcement at E3...kind of disappointed they didn't announce Kingdom Hearts 3.

    I'm pretty excited.

The press conference was definitely a waste of time. It feels like either my expectations were too high or I feel that everyone else's standards are just too low and that I'm hard to please.

Now, before I share my thoughts... I want to make it clear that I don't own a PS3 or a Vita. When the original price for the PS3 was announced, I was extremely turned off and waited patiently for a price drop as I was happy with the 360. Honestly, the only "exclusive" I cared for on Playstation 1 and 2 were the Final Fantasy games.

When they announced that FFXIII and FFXIII-2 were available on the 360 as well, I saw no reason to buy the PS3 quite honestly. Did I miss out on some games? You bet I did. I missed out on my favorite golf series, Hot Shot Golf. I never got to try out MLB The Show (always heard it was way better than MLB2K). But overall... I didn't mind.

I had high hopes today for what Sony had to say about the PS4 and I'll tell you why I'm disappointed. They're focusing waaaay too much on social media and the casual crap Nintendo has been spitting out. Granted, all the consoles are heading that direction, especially since Playstation copied with the Playstation Move and the 360 copied with the Kinect. They just don't understand what gamers want, and that is frustrating. Even Microsoft has rumors floating around that you *need* a Kinect to use the 720. I mean, really?

Throughout the press conference, they kept babbling on and on about sharing and social media. Who really shares what games they're playing on facebook? I certainly don't. While Watchdogs and Killzone looks nice, it looked and felt like any other game really. The only thing I wanted to hear was from Square Enix and their Final Fantasy News. But they flew a guy out from Japan only to tell us to please be excited for E3. Seriously?

Bottom line... I wasn't "wowed". While the specs sound amazing and the potential the system has can be freaking crazy (in a good way), in the end... it's not the specs that will sell the system, it is the type of games they produce. I must admit though that I'm worried that they didn't reveal the price. It's got to be pretty high and they're afraid of early backlash or something.

And please don't turn this topic into console wars. We all want these systems to be the best it can be (I mean, why CAN'T we have all the systems right?). I know it's still early and E3 will be a huge test for both Sony and Microsoft this year. I really do want to see what Microsoft can bring to the table as well. At least that way, we can compare the two consoles to see which one we should get first and which one is better off waiting for a price drop.

While it seems like most of you are allergic to the "like" button, I just want to personally say thanks for looking anyway.

I agree, please don't turn this thread into a bunch of console war bs.

I think I was just excited in general to hear what Sony had to say, because I've been playing on Playstation since the first one...but that doesn't mean I'm sold just yet. If Microsoft looks like they are putting out the better console, I don't see a reason to pick Sony over them (other than the fact that I love Playstation exclusives like Uncharted and God of War, and my hands aren't very manly so the smaller PS controller works better for me.)

I thought the Playstation Move thing they showed was pretty cool, although it's not cool enough for me to go buy the Move controller.

I like the idea of live streaming games, I know that's already a thing that's possible, but I think the "share" button will make it easier. I think it would be great for sports games like the NHL series (EASHL) so you can maybe recruit people by watching what they do in a game, see how your team is doing if you have a computer handy but you aren't home, watch your team play if too many of your players are online at once...etc.

This is a small thing, but I also like how the console will be able to start up your games exactly where you left off when you shut the system off. I know most load times aren't that long anymore, but I'm impatient and it's convenient if you have a little bit of time to kill, but not enough time to complete something.

I didn't really care for the feature that lets your friend beat a part of a game for you if you're stuck. Why buy a game if there's no challenge?

Maybe the conference wasn't too impressive, but I'm just happy the next generation consoles are finally coming. I just hope this generation doesn't keep shoving first person shooters down our throats.

Half the games shown are going to be multi-platform anyways, but Sony got to announce them first before the others.
With a few more major electronics shows to go, Sony doesn't need to blow their load right away.

I have no issues with not seeing the actual console. Hearing about the specs and the ease with which development on the system can work is more important. No need to have a huge learning curve in development like the core-processing of the PS3 required.
Ports to the PS3 for multi-platform games had a tendency to be lesser products, in some areas minor but in some major. From all the rumors I've read, the new Xbox and the PS4 will be kindred siblings hardware-wise so programming shouldn't be the issue anymore.

There also is no sense to out the price at this point either. It would be nice to know but it doesn't make sense to give MS a solid number to undercut so early when they reveal the new XBox at what I assume will be E3. Once the holiday season comes is when I expect to hear what the pricing for each system will be.

The social/sharing/multimedia stuff is to be expected but isn't really the draw for me.

Will I be an early adopter? Perhaps but I generally wait 6-8 months after release to get a new system and I doubt that will change for this gen.

btw, I'm a PS guy so have no plans to get an XBox and I don't need to get multiple consoles. If I was to get something in addition to the PS4, it would be a gaming PC.

a few years ago, per the advice of my gamer brother-in-law and Kat's cousin's husband - who works for Activision, i made the switch to Xbox because they both felt the games would be more challenging for me in particular, which would effectively take me longer to finish - which gave me a better bang for buck ratio.

but i still gotta say, there is NOTHING that can match that PS controller.

I'll probably just wait for the first price drop like I did with the PS3. Launch games suck every time anyways.

This will probably be the next console i pick up unless Microsoft magically decides to stop charging for their Xbox Live Gold services. I recently sold my 360 because i couldn't justify paying for XBox Live any longer. My gaming became way too casual, and i coulnd't find the time to play any online/multi-player games or anything that required me to remember where i left off. :/

I'm hoping the pricing doesn't exceed $299, but it more than likely will. Otherwise, I'll just wait until 2015 when it become more reasonable.

I've been an avid video game player for about 20 years. This PS4 news does NOTHING for me. I think the PS3 is the last system I'll ever buy. I just don't see anything on the horizon that gives me anywhere near the excitement or sense of accomplishment I used to get out of gaming.

i didn't see the press conference or know much. Will PS3 games work on PS4, and will any downloads I've made on PS3 (i.e. songs for Rock Band) also transfer to PS4?

I quit listening to SOny when they swore the PS2 could render Toy Story in real-time and Saddam Hussein stole shipments.

I was at the PS3 launch conference and while cool, I wasn't excited. In all honesty, none of the new consoles really jump out and say "BUY ME !!!" I'll wait for the prices to drop and some amazing games to come out. I still have games for this gen I need to play.
