    Default ps3 Blinking red light/YLOD

Have an original 80 gb PS3... just got the Yellow light of death followed by the blinking red. Researched around the internet and wanted to see if any LGK'ers had any luck...

That really sucks. That happened to me with my old fat 40gb about a month out of warranty. I feel for you.

Crazy timing on the post, because for the last 3 or 4 nights my PS3 has been shutting itself off and flashing the red light. I have had no yellow flashing yet, knock on wood. Sometimes it will work perfectly fine, other times I will play for 5 or 10 minutes and it will turn off by itself. I read online it's due to overheating, so I'm gunna get a can of compressed air and blow it out and see what happens. I've had the original 60gb model since December of 2006 (a month after it came out,) so I'm sure a lot of dust has collected in there over time. If it breaks I'm screwed because I don't have the money to replace it (and I really don't want my data being erased...)

Also, try checking for videos on Youtube. I'm not positive, but I think I remember reading that people have fixed it themselves when they get the yellow light.

    Here you go:

Looks like you're gunna have to take it apart if you want it fixed. Not sure if you want to do that, but it might be your only option if your warranty is up. I didn't watch the videos myself, but let us know if you find a way to fix it!

Yep my old Fat 40 gig ps3 crapped out, i was able to do the fix and it would work but after 3 months it would just come undone again, i think i did the process over and over again for 2 more times and just ended up buying a slim.

I had the Bluray drive go out on my original 80gb (MGS4 Bundle) but it looks like it can be fixed, never had the YLOD.
Also had my 120gb Slim fail too, although now that I think about it, It might have just needed a lens cleaning...but I punched it and the load/eject mechanism doesn't work, lol...woops.
Have had no issues so far with my 320gb Slim...but I only use it for games now, got a separate Samsung BR player for movies.

Well I think my PS3 officially took a crap. It hardly stays on at all now. I tried to get on NHL 12 earlier, and while I was waiting for my team mates for less than 5 minutes, it froze up. Tried turning it on again and it froze a few seconds after the home screen loaded. I took the top off of the PS3 and unscrewed the first set of screws to open it up, and used a paper towel to get a bunch of dust out of it. I didn't go any deeper than that though, but I'm sure there's more dust at the bottom where the fans are. My PS3 still turns on now, but is freezing at the home screen still. This ****ing sucks cause I don't have any money to replace it.

I have been very lucky with my consoles so far, but what happened to the days when consoles were rock solid?!?!

Just to let you know, Sony sucks. My friend had this problem and sent it in for repairs....got it back and some other problem came up the next day.....sent it in again, came back and still had problems.....they basically forced him to go buy another ps3.
