Resistance 2.

I'm a casual gamer, and I tend to migrate towards the FPS games almost exclusively. SOCOM, Rainbow Six, Etc.

Typically I'd make it through the first or second "stage" of the story mode, because I'd usually much rather jump online and get embarrassed by a 14 year old. I especially like the jokes about my mother, but I digress. Never, ever have I finished the story mode in any of them. Ever.

Until I rented Resistance: Fall of Man. I finished that bitch in about 18 hours straight. I don't really know why, except the game play was pretty intuitive and the story was somewhat compelling.

I got an email from Sony about 2 months ago about participating in the Resistance 2 online beta test, and filled it out. Got the beta download code on Thursday...

It's pretty goddamn awesome. The beta is online only, up to 60 players per game, 30 a side... And while I've only played a handful of game types, usually deathmatch, there looks to be a "squad based" mode where a team of 20-30 gets broken up into squads with specific missions within a game. That's dope.

The player graphics are pretty good. The environment graphics are AMAZING. This game is going to rule.

SOCOM: Confrontation will run 16 a side @32 in game. I can't even imagine the processing power involved in having that many connections in one game, multiplied by thousands of games.

Been playing this and haven't gotten too far yet. So far it seems and feels quite a bit different than the first one. The controls are slightly different, which is fine but I don't like that you can't play the campaign in 2-player mode. That was the most fun I had in the first game. I also liked the European setting and coloring was much more retro. Still too early and the game is still fun, but I haven't decided if it's an improvement yet.

The lack of co-op campaign does suck, and it does feel different than the 1st, but the story is more intense and the action/pacing is very impressive. I'll report more later!

Tough call, I'd wait and see what the masses are playing. COD4 is still a juggernaut.

One day I hope to play with you PS3 guys, looks like this game is only for PS3, so COD:WAW it is!
