    Default Saint's Row 3

Anyone have any opinions on this...hell, even the other games? Are these just weak sister GTA type games. This new one looks like they may have gone above and beyond with. Any thoughts?

Got a good first review on IGN of 8.5. I preordered on PS3 so I should have it Tuesday or Wednesday. Sure looks fun to me but I didn't play the first two...

    SAINTS ROW 3 Review

Yeah, well this ain't looking so good. May go get SR2 though...

I desperately wanted Saints Row: The Third to be a glorious evolution of one of my favorite games. Unfortunately, it looks like Volition couldn’t deliver. Again, I believe part of that goes to budget. The series had to drop down from B-list level voice talent like Eliza Dushku and Neil Patrick Harris to (charitably) D-listers like pornstar Sasha Grey and retired wrestler Hulk Hogan (however, there’s one celebrity cameo that’s downright brilliant). But there’s no excusing the lack of creativity. Even with a pared-down cityscape, there’s no reason the plot and writing should be so uneven, and a mission involving a zombie outbreak reeks of desperation. I could at least respect the new Saints Row if it took the series in a radically different direction and that direction didn’t pan out. I would have been perfectly happy with a Saints Row 2.5 that brought in the tighter controls, updated graphics, the Professor Genki activity, and handful of new weapons. Instead, Saints Row: The Third is a massive disappointment to everyone who demands more from a sequel, which is, well, everyone.

    Rating: C-

Just for the record, it's getting Rave Reviews from almost everyone else. Scoring an average Metacritic of 85 out of 100, with 39 reviews in so far:

Saints Row: The Third for Xbox 360 Reviews, Ratings, Credits, and More at Metacritic

GTA is a serious game that puts you in the story, where you feel like you're playing a movie. Saints Row: The Third is completely opposite - complete customization, allowing you to use insane vehicles and weapons, in the open world sand-box environment. Check out some of the videos on Youtube and look at other reviews before you decide.

I do work at THQ and have been involved on the Marketing side for this game. Here are a few press quotes from other reviews:

    Official Xbox Magazine – 9.5/10
“Saints Row has matured into a series that embraces the over-the-top and the absurd in a way that even GTA could never dream of, and this third iteration perfects the formula by emphasizing fun above all else, realism be damned.”
“It’s the game Volition — a studio whose successes go back 15 years to the original Descent — was born to make.”
“…this game is built for doubling the havoc-wreaking fun.”

    GameInformer – 9/10 (GOLD)
“Saints Row: The Third’s humor is low-brow yet self-aware, featuring the silliness of the Naked Gun movies with the adult edge of South Park.”
“Volition has succeed in making one of the most unpredictable and insane experiences in recent gaming memory.”
    “It’ll keep you laughing throughout.”

    IGN 8.5 – Editor’s Choice
“But it's not all Jackass-style shenanigans, Saints Row: The Third is also capable of delivering some seriously intense action set pieces…”
“Fans will find the juvenile antics and humor intact here in Saints Row: The Third, along with some gameplay refinements that turn Saints Row into more of a cinematic experience.”
“Saints Row: The Third wants you to have fun, and it doesn't care how sick and twisted your sense of fun may be.”

    GamePro - 80
“…the graphics engine has gotten such a substantial upgrade. This world has so much more detail than Saints Row 2, and it runs so much more smoothly.”
“…open-world sandbox of silliness and sin.”
“…it felt much more stress-relieving than any Grand Theft Auto...”

    Destructoid
“Saints Row: The Third is the definition of a fun game.”
"Saints Row The Third has me hook, line and sinker.”
“…one of the funnest games I've ever played.”

    Joystiq – 90
“Saints Row: The Third is nuts…At the same time, Saints Row: The Third is fun.”
“…nuttier and crazier than the last.”

    Kotaku
    "Damn. This game is great."
“…the readily accessible mayhem that can be enjoyed right from the get go.”
“Saints Row: The Third feels like the kind of morally reprehensible fun that one can spend substantial time with, delighting in murderous chaos, without worrying about where the story of the Third Row Saints is headed.”

    1UP - 83
“The Saints Row franchise has cemented its place as the punch-in-the-balls the open world genre needed.”
“…every bit as fun and entertaining as the previous game.”

    GamesRadar - 100
“SR3’s sense of humor is sharper than ever.”
“…it puts fun first, and that's a huge draw for anyone looking for a good time. “
“…one of the most immediately fun sandbox games we've played in a long time.”

    GameSpot – 8.5
“…much of what made previous Saints Row games so enjoyable has returned.”
“…a blast being in the middle of all this frantic action.”
“The latest sandbox action game from Volition is set to become bigger, sillier, and even more ridiculous than its predecessors.”

    Machinima - 95
“…in a challenge of games that are fun for fun’s sake, you can put this franchise up against some of the best in the business.”

One C- review does not a complete-picture make. Or something...

I've played and beat both. They are fun games not to be taken seriously. I mean, in this one you can beat up a homeless person with a purple dildo. I'll wait when the price goes down though.

    Also, the cheerleader.

Looks pretty over the top, but also looks like a lot of fun. I wouldn't pay the full $60 for it though.

The reviews so far have mostly been spot on. Saints Row 2 was an excellent balance of humor, action, and great gameplay. The Third goes much further on the humor side, a lot of it is beyond ridiculous and it's the rare game where you will literally be laughing while playing.
I will see you...in the next life
