Totally Torn On Buying NHL 13, Help??

Since NHL 07 I've bought EA's hockey game day 1 of its release all the way up to now with NHL 13. I played the game at E3 and was told all my concerns of what I was playing would be fixed come release, and that I was playing a Alpha Build (Half Developed Version). Then the Demo came out on Xbox Live Marketplace, All my concerns still no where near fixed. Then came the day the game was released and for the first time in 4 years something just told me "Don't go get it..." and I didn't. I've read reviews from just about every gaming site and some give it a 9.0, Some say it's the best hockey game ever made, and others that it's complete trash and they're RETURNING the game. So i figured I'd come here and ask actual Hockey fans of the Kings community what they think. Buy, or continue to pass???

If you like to cheese, don't buy NHL13. If you like to play legit hockey, buy NHL13. That's all I can say really.

By cheese, I'm talking about curve shots. A lot of people (mostly Canadians) still try this every time down the ice. They're usually the ones complaining because instead of it working 100% of the time, it works only 25% of the time now.

This game is difficult to play for me. I've never sucked so bad at this game before until this year's game.

I know this is archaic, but why not rent it and try it out to see how you like it?

I thought it sucked. I bought it for $45 off Amazon and sold it on ebay for $42 without the code or shrinkwrap, so maybe buy it and then just sell it if you don't like it. I'll be playing NHL12 for another year it seems. My belief is that NHL13 is basically NBA13 on ice.

I refuse to buy anything related to the NHL. Why support the people that have taken away our entertainment?

Pretty much this. If you enjoy playing online and doing all the cheap things to win, you won't enjoy this game. The skating system is hard to get used to at first, but once you get it down the game becomes easier.

As said before, you could always buy it and sell it if you don't end up enjoying it. In my opinion, NHL 12 was better, but I play online only so I have to have the current version of the game in order to enjoy it. I'd say buy it or even rent it and give it a try.

This game is filled with cheese goals. Breakaway backhand forehand is 99% in the net, shoot short side high with a good shooter, and on the point shoot against the grain. They fixed the one timer problem from 2012 but the goalies overreact and slide which makes it easier to score.

Sounds like your concerns were not addressed. Until they are, don't go near it.

For me, GM connected makes the game. Being able to play a Kings team with my friends COOP online is just incredible, and what I have wanted for years. I totally concur with my other Kings fans about the cheesing in online game play, and don't go near it.

I only play COOP in GM connected, and it's really a very good FIRST attempt. It's not perfect, it's the first time they have put this gameplay mode in, but the fun far outweighs the complaints, and the slowness we had at launch is becoming less noticeable as time goes on.

So, if you get to try a copy and your concerns have been addressed, and you want to play some good Hockey with your friends then pick it up when the price drops. If you want to do online league or online be a pro mode, check back in here often, and if you see the same gripes from league players, don't touch it.

What exactly is a "cheese" goal? I'm looking for the definition and specific examples of a "cheese" goal.
