WAR is Coming!

Warhammer Online's official release date has been announced. Thursday, September 18th. Pre-order customers will get a Head-Start beginning the 16th, with Collector's Edition customers possibly beginning on the 15th.

Additionally, pre-order customers will be invited into the closed BETA test beginning next week, with the Open Beta period beginning shortly after.

For those of you who haven't followed the development of this game, this will be the first MMO based on the Warhammer IP. It has been developed by Mythic Entertainment, the same company who developed the much-heralded Dark Age of Camelot.

Warhammer is a PvP biased MMO, with 2 factions comprised of 3 races each (Dark Elves, Chaos, Orks and Goblins versus High Elves, Dwarfs and the Empire). Termed Realm versus Realm, the gameplay encourages players of each faction to engage in open battles against players of the other faction.

For those of you looking for a change of pace from WoW, be sure to check this out.

If anybody has pre-ordered and is looking to join the side of Order, let me know as the release gets closer, and we'll see if we can't get a LGK guild going.

Still waiting on the first good MMORPG for the 360. Both FF and PSU are meh. AoC isn't coming any time soon.

I geeked out to warcraft for a while...left me soulless in a few months.

Warhammer looks like good fun, but like most other highly nerdictive games...I fear for my life...and will have to pass.

I canceled Age of Conan (too many changes, not that fun imo) and Warhammer doesn't look to exciting either.

A bird just flew right into my bedroom window. It fell to the ground. That's comedy right there.

I'm pretty much psyched about this after being a long-time Dark Age of Camelot subscriber. It was a blast running around with 50-100 other people and assaulting a keep defended by 100 peeps from another realm. Great times, and when I eventually left it for good, never quite caught the same feeling from an MMO (original Star Wars Galaxies was close, **** You Sony!).

The Warhammer world is pretty funny too. Anybody that's played Dawn of War knows what the 40k universe is like, and the Warhammer Fantasy world has even more character than 40k. I have high hopes, but with the way MMO's go, and the way they can suck your life away, I can completely understand anybody not interested.

For anybody interested, I should be getting into the end of closed beta next week, and open beta soon after, so I'll let you know my impressions and thoughts.

Sorry to hear about AoC. I never got a chance to try it out, but I've heard wildly divergent opinions. I personally just cancelled my WoW account again after being active for only a month. I played a little PvP, but it got pretty stale.

I was actually having fun with it for a while, but they made so many changes so quickly, it just sort of killed the fun for me. Plus it just became a grind fest, and got boring very quickly. I'm sure the large sieges can be fun.

So far WP pretty much is exactly what I wanted my Paladin in WoW to be, a front-line healer. I'm really enjoying RvR and scenarios so far, although it can just be a cluster**** because of inexperience and no organization. Once people have played in the RvR lakes and scenarios a few times it comes together a lot better though. Haven't assaulted any keeps yet.

Art direction is amazing, everything is spot on for Warhammer. I got a robe for my WP at a low level that had a leather breastplate with "Ye shall not suffer a heretic to live" written on it, which made me feel a lot like I was actually in Warhammer.

I built my computer 2 and a half years ago now (top of the line then) and haven't noticed any framerate issues or anything. Even with lots of players (30 or 40 each side) I haven't experienced any slow down. They cut the beta servers down to one for this faze to do some stress testing and are running into some issues. There is a pretty bad memory leak bug right now that will crash the client sometimes, hopefully it'll be fixed by open beta though.

I'll post some more as I play more.

Awesome. I'm DL'ing the torrent right now and should be in within the next day or so.

I'm looking to roll a Warrior Priest and Rune Priest probably as my first two characters once the game starts, so will probably avoid those during beta. I figure I'll play some Destruction classes and some other classes I won't be playing in the real game during beta just to give myself a good overall feel for the game and also so I don't spoil my leveling experience when crunch time starts.

At any rate, hopefully we can hook up when the game starts for real. Likewise, I'll try to keep everybody updated with my impressions as the NDA allows, and once it's removed.
