Good stuff Brian. You're right. We are definitely trying to play like it's NHL 09. But at the same time, if we can get at least half of our passes done correctly, we would get so many more scoring chances.

It just feels like out of every 10 offensive rushes we do, we could only get 2-3 passes that actually connected.

Don't know if you saw the NHL10 News Thread, but I now made my guy an Offensive D-Man and I have an 85 rating in passing so I can somewhat pass again.

I took at all the stupid boosts for the player types such as "Tough Guy, Offensive D-Man, Sniper, Playmaker, etc and noticed that Offensive D-Man might be easiest to unlock. Win Battle for the Cup mode with all 30 teams. Palffy from the PS3 side mentioned this and said we could maybe try 4 minute period, rookie settings, just to unlock this boost.

Definitely. I've only played three games but have already noticed you can no longer just pass the puck through a defenders legs while on the rush. It'll hit his skates and/or stick far more often than not, so like you said the focus needs to be on getting the puck deep in the zone, playing our positions, and cycling the puck. If we can manage some consistancy in that regard, the goals will follow, no doubt.

In NHL09, if you didn't get a shot off within a couple seconds of entering the zone, chances were you'd turn it over. I think we can now slow things down and play more strategically.

A couple of times last night I was able to get down into the LW corner and because the game now plays at a much more realistic pace, I actually had a bit of time to hold onto the puck and look for open lanes. A couple times, I'd try to pass through a defender to someone in the crease (like you could in 09) and we'd lose it. But the times I fed it out to the point were way more successful at actually getting a shot on goal.

In other words, NHL10 >>> NHL09

Once the lag issues are fixed, this game is going to be damn near perfect.

Now if only they'd introduce the drop-in/drop-out play so we don't need to wait in the game room so damn long waiting for the current game to finish...

I'm afraid I'll suck at the multiplayer style of game, but would love to play here or there.

You're right. I've played about 15 OTP games now and I noticed that the other teams that get better scoring chances than us seem to hold on to the puck more often.

Also notice that since the game is slower than 09, lots of forwards carrying the puck up the ice will "stop" to avoid getting hit since the hitter will likely slam into the boards.

But what frustrates me most about trying to play like 09 is that the "money goals" are still definitely there. We're just having a hard time executing it with bad passing, but for other teams, if they can somehow get it pass us defenders, it will almost always go in for them.

I'm clueless when it comes to all these upgrades, haven't had enough time to really read into them, so you can unlock online attribute boosts in offline modes?

As long as you more or less play your position and play a smart game (i.e. don't take ridiculous shots every time you get the puck), you'll fit right in.

Yeah, it seems like the guys with the beanies/tukes are playing at NHL09 speed and we're stuck w/ the NHL10 engine.

Times like these, I wish we could join multiple teams. I'm committed to a team (as a GM) at another board I've been posting at for 5 years. It's great fun, but most of the team is terrible and we lose constantly.

Before the records reset last night (why did they, anyway?) we were 9-24-4, LOL.

No, it didn't reset. We're like freaking 18-22-3 or whatever crap now.

Though the OT loss count isn't correct, again. Reminds me of NHL09, when it took them awhile to figure out how to correctly count the OT losses.

I just tried to play two games with Tanner and we took turns getting disconnected which resulted in a default 3-0 loss. Totally lame.
